this is really great. I followed these directions with a few modifications people may find useful. 1. i made the frame panels from three horizontal panels instead of two vertical panels. I bought a 4'x24" hardwood butcher block for the shelves, but one could probably rip a 2x12 to do the trick.I added a second 3/4" x 4" piece of ply to the back of the cutout so the shelf/legs get 1-1/2" of reinforcement. I reinforced the cabinet and bed frame with a second 3/4" piece of plywood, drilled a 1-1/4" hole and ran 4" pieces of dowel through.

Omg you are a life saver! Im going to be moving to europe and small rooms are the norm there and I wanted a guest bed/ study without losing the study space! This is perfect!
I made two of them in my children's room they have enough space to go crazy and play. But you must add gas pistons to assist when you lift unless you are physically fit.
very impressive. I just built one of these using expensive hardware. And now I've been waiting to see how it is done without that, Thanks so much, You are great
Cool build! I had the same idea a while ago and wondered if it would work. Have you thought about adding gas pistons to assist with lifting and lowering the bed? I'm very curious if that is possible. That would potentially make opening and closing much more easier and safer.
What a great alternative to the usual $3-500 murphy bed hardware! Would have loved to see more detail around how you got that installed. Also, would like to hear how its holding up in a year or so!
So would I have also liked to see more of the hardware. I said to myself......"" How could she have left one of the most important part I believe most viewers wanted to see, the hinge/swinging mechanism "" ?
Yeah. Her voice was so soft when she talked, so I had to turn it up a bit. But then the music would start and it was so loud, so I'd turn it down. And then she'd be talking softly again, so I had to turn it up. And then it would start all over again with the loud music. It's a great video as far as sharing the information about making the murphy bed, but it would have really been nice if the volume was more even.
Excellent job on the bed, but kill the volume when your not talking, it's annoying having to adjust the volume every time we need to hear you describe the work your doing.
Excellent video and project! I appreciate that you say: 'drill pilot holes" instead of 'pre-drill holes'. The reverse diamond design is great! The only downside I see is that you will need to remove everything from the floating shelves each time you want to use the bed but not a big issue.
@@rawlr9066 It's likely that no update will ever be given. I have made my own, in similar fashion to her's, except for the hardware. It's a temporary situation that I will be using for a long while kind of thing. If you are interested in knowing, continue reading. If not, then just stop here. I made a short twin sized bed with 3/4 inch birch plywood, the type used for cabinets and other furniture. It's thick and sturdy enough to hold my 155 pounds without issue. Since it is twin sized, I didn't need reinforcing ribs to preven bowing or cupping. I framed the edge to hold the matress in place just like she did, with actual 1 inch thick cedar boards. I had to pre-drill every screw hole, and I placed screws every 6 inches to secure the 'walls' tightly. I did not use wood glue, but only because I had run out of it, and was too cheap to buy more for a temporary sleeping arrangement. To tilt the bed away and back down, I used two sturdy 3 inch door hinges. To secure the bed from falling when put away, I used a gate latch. The latches that look similar to bolt action rifles (?). I sized the bed frame to slightly squeeze the matress, and to be above the bed frame about 1 inch. So the 5 inch thick matress is surrounded by 4 inch walls. Oh... this is all hinged on regular 2×4 lumber. I have been sleeping on this every day since I made it, approaching a year, and it has held up fine. I did need to change the wood screws the gate hinges come with to bolts and nuts, as I put something near the pivot point one day and forgot about it. When I went to put the murphy bed in the sleeping position, well... I levered the wood screws out. A mistake I have not repeated. My build is no where near as fancy as her's. But, it works well and hasn't failed on its own. It's actually pretty comfortable and having it put away through the day time gives me a lot of useful space in my very small (temporary I swear) home.
@@igounfazed Sounds like you hace that works for you. Glad it worked out for you. So instead of the boat swivel, you used hinges on 2 x 4's...so how did you put the 2 x 4 in place?
@@rawlr9066 In my case, I built a 2×4 frame for the bed to hing on to. My dimensions for the 2×4s are 2 pieces 42 inches long, and 2 pieces 11 inches long. That gave me a frame that is 42" × 14" (the 11 inch pieces go in between the two 42 inch pieces, and the actual size of a 2×4 is 1.5" × 3.5"). So, 11 + 1.5 + 1.5 = 14. The 2×4 frame is held in place by the plywood box (closet) made to hide the murphy bed into, and that closet is attached to the wall just like hers. I used the 2×4 frame to attach the door hinges, and attached the bed frame of similar build to what she made to the door hinges. On the bed part, I used "T-Nuts" with appropriately sized bolts to attach to the hinges. So it is securely fastened. All that gives me around a top of mattress height of 19-20 inches when pulled down for sleeping. And I use a "Bedroom Bench" to rest the foot of the bed on instead of legs, as it gives me seating space when the bed is put away. Again, I didn't make mine aesthetically pleasing. I made to be functional first and foremost. But it can easily be made with fashion in mind.
Gurrrrlll!!! That was impressive! The bed AND the video. I've been wanting to try making a M bed, but yours is the first DIY demo that makes me feel like maybe I actually could tackle it. It’s alarming how this build seems to have been taken directly from DIYTyler’s page without credit. The design of the build exactly the same, right down to the hardware and order of operation. Even the floating shelves and method used to keep the bed upright are the same… 😅 I’m all about people learning from each other and sharing on RUclips, but it’s definitely stealing if you don’t give other creators credit when you are taking and modifying their plans to claim it as your own and then monetizing it. Nice work! For my personal taste I would have left the diagonal wood slats their natural color instead of painting them, but that's more of a decor item. Great job!
Wow, I love seeing women empowered by grinding on their own, if need be !! Great job young lady !!
this is the best video i've seein on this subject im 67 live in a small place need one of this build hardware is to expensive .. no easy way to do it my self .. watching this video totally change it
Wow - you give me hope. I have been looking for a reasonably priced murphy bed. Never thought of building one myself. You worked very hard on this and the results are great.
Amazing. Check out the links in the description for the build plans. Takes all the guess work out of the measurements! That’s the trickiest part!
Love to see women craftsman. I work alongside many daily. Great Job. Simple, clean and safe. If ever I decide to build one myself I have another teacher to get pointers from. Keep up the great work.
I'm so impressed! Awesome job!
Wow! I’m impressed, you built that like a pro!👍🛠️😮
I have no idea why it came up on my list but i love it. Really great project nicely put together video
Go girl !!!! Didn't realize I watched this video 3 months ago, til I started reading the comments ! It was just as exciting today watching, as it was 3 months ago ! I kept saying, "Gon girl !"
Aww that’s so awesome. Thank you🥰
You did an absolutely amazing job!!! This is the first video I’ve seen where I now feel confident enough to try on my own
The hardware she used is the same as I used for the new swivel seats I installed in my boat. I was planning to use them for this exact project. Very well done!!
Very cool and what a great job. I'd totally use this to make one in my house if plywood wasn't 80 bucks a sheet!!
:) lets think out the box, like looking for old wood from demolish houses... I am just amaze how much ease she put into her project this is awesome
Thank you so much. I want to replace the bed in my guest room to a Murphy bed so I can use the room when I don't have guests. The way you do will save me a lot of money since all the murphy beds and kits are quite expensive. Great detailed video. Thank you!
Great job! It's encouraging to see a woman do this so I know I could do it, too! There were times you went a little fast, especially attaching the lifting mechanisms. You did an amazing job creating the wood panel design on the outside. It looked too pretty to paint!😊 I'm really impressed by your woodworking skills! Thank you for sharing!!!😊❤️❤️❤️
Thank you so much! It was tough recording all of it in detail while doing it but I included all the details in the build plan to make it a lot easier. I appreciate your kind words🥰🥰
Jesus Loves you!!!❤️❤️❤️
@@ritareilly8548 You can always go to the settings and set the playback speed to the slowest speed to see it better.
Wow, you did a great job! I received some basic guidelines for my Murphy project, so thanks for sharing. Even though it's been two years, people are still checking out your projects.
This was a clever design and build! Great job! Thank you for sharing.
Your presentation blew me away - I love your confidence, your methodologies and your super-professional voice over. Bravo!
I especially enjoyed watching you create the chevron fascia and the shelf/legs.
The only thing I wish you videoed was the second stage of the hinge attachment. I'm not sure how I'd manage in such a tight space. Many thanks!
Great job- looks amazing
Great job!!! When I go this I will probably use carriage bolts to attach the boat seat swivels.
A true diamond in the rough. Well done. :)
I'm cabinet maker for 16 years. Yes cheaper solution but still a lot of work. Very impressive doh good job.
Thanks for great upload and it even helps that you provided plans. I didn’t notice you mentioning that and it was truly helpful. Thanks again Queen, keep these videos rolling!!
Wow you are a great engineer. Amazed at your work. Well done !
Clean build and clear tutorial. I love the minimalistic, yet stylish approach as well. I subscribed, because I'd love to see more of your builds and projects. In any case, thanks for sharing!
Adding this to my how to Playlist. A great summer project.
Such a simple, gorgeous build! Thank you for sharing your brilliant inspiration!
You are absolutely INCREDIBLE!!!
Watching you build this made my universe,
you inspired me to make my murphy bed. Your lil one will always remember you designing & building this EPIC piece~
Sending smiles!!!
WOW!!! Fantastic project. I watched the entire video even though I don't have the talent or tools to build something like this...but I'd give anything if I could! Keep up the great work!🌟
I absolutely love it! Thank you for sharing.
Agree that the music was too much; but I just slid the volume button down a bit. So glad you are showing everyone what one woman can do!!! Wish I had your skills.
Perfect timing!! I was thinking about getting a bed for a spare bedroom I have, but it's really a small room and I was worried about losing the space. I'm pretty sure I'm going to do this project in the coming weeks. Thanks so much for the inspiration!!!
Yay! I love seeing other people take it on. I have detailed plans in the description if your interested. Also includes a full cut list.
Great job! They save so much space! I don’t need to gas pistons for my use (maybe one day down the line) but I appreciate your comment!
very impressive. I just built one of these using expensive hardware. And now I've been waiting to see how it is done without that, Thanks so much, You are great
What??? How is it that you don't have more subs??? 😱You have a new one over here! ✌
That's what I want to know!!! She is amazing!!!
Same!
Get a life and stop counting subs ugh
You are awesome little sister !
Hey - this is really good stuff!
I agree with you Larry step by step with ease. I am so impress I want to start a project such as this one. Im a thinking about it very seriously
Amazing job. I admire your tenacity. More women should follow your lead. You are showing them that they can do it too.
Cool build! I had the same idea a while ago and wondered if it would work. Have you thought about adding gas pistons to assist with lifting and lowering the bed? I'm very curious if that is possible. That would potentially make opening and closing much more easier and safer.
Respect to you Lady. For your excellent work. There is no DREAM...that cannot be done. Respect.
Marvelous!
You are very obviously a talented carpenter and woodworker.
So awesome thank you, music gets a bit loud in between though…
You are a fantastic role model to your children
Excellent job on the bed, but kill the volume when your not talking, it's annoying having to adjust the volume every time we need to hear you describe the work your doing.
Wow. Beautiful, humble, intelligent and down to earth. Diamond in the rough indeed.
No disrespect if your married. Just saying
Awesome, keep it up! Youl be huge soon!
I appreciate it!
I agree!
Absolutely beautiful. I love the herringbone pattern! I’m going to make this project. Thanks for showing us!
Very cool, consider your channel multinational, they watch you in Russia.
That’s so cool!!
In Greece too 😊
Excellent video and project! I appreciate that you say: 'drill pilot holes" instead of 'pre-drill holes'. The reverse diamond design is great! The only downside I see is that you will need to remove everything from the floating shelves each time you want to use the bed but not a big issue.
It has been a year since this video was released. My main question is: *Has this build lasted?* Can an update be given, even if it is a short one?
yes, I would like to know too.
The bed is plenty nice enough without a lot of bells, whistles, and special tools and equipment. Thank you so much for posting this!
god I love seeing a cute girl use a miter saw
Thank you, Doja, it was a pleasure watching you create this super practical bed.
HAHA best comment!
Shady shady
Thanks for the tip. Just watched Tyler!
Wow impressive. You made it look so easy. Great job!
young Lady knows what she is doing....great Job thanks.
Gurrrrlllll you are a carpenter. Thats a true gift !
