Finally a method that doesn't use those expensive hinge systems that others are selling. Thank you so much for sharing this. I'll build a similar but horizontal set up soon.
Thanks so much! 😁 good luck on building yours!
I just completed my unit and wanted to offer a tip to those of you who make it. When attaching the platform to the unit with the hinges I piled books under the platform until it lined up to avoid pinching my fingers and keeping both of my hands free to align and attach them.
That is a great tip! Thanks for sharing!! :)
how well are the bottom hinges holding up?
@@kennydopham my bed is holding up fantastic, I've had it up and down more than a gymnast. It is a bit heavy, but still better than spending $300+ on complicated hardware.

Thanks! Was looking at just buying one of these and cannot for the life of me understand why even the most basic ones are so very expensive. Seemed like a good thing to DIY.
I like your method of fast motion and narrative. No nonsense and waste of time of the viewer. Other DIY videos adds too much irrelevant stuff. This is how videos should be done. GREAT SHOUTOUT
Thanks so much!! I really appreciate that :)
We have a home in Mexico with a “bodega” (storage room) that we made nice enough to double as a bedroom if we have a larger group visiting (that won’t fit in the other 3 guest bedrooms plus sleeping loft 🤣 - we have lots of family and friends). So this Murphy bed will be PERFECT! I will be my husband’s assistant, as he is the handyman who can do all these projects. But I’ve always said when I retire as a doctor, I want to learn carpentry. Something so special about working with wood and creating beautiful and functional furniture. So glad I found your channel! ♥️
That’s awesome! Hope it works well for you! Thanks!! 😁
This saves on hardware. Nice.
Yeah, it’s the simplest design I could come up with but still very effective.
I love the fact that your in slides, I do as much as I can in slides before I have to put boots on 😂 Love the design!
Haha Thanks!! 😁
Merci monsieur, un grand salut du Mexique.
Amazing concept of murphy hed. Thank a lot and cheers

Thanks so much!! I’ll keep that in mind. I may be able to fit that into a video in the future :)

You’re very welcome!
It's nice. Thank you very much
I'm glad you like it :)
Wonderful
I want to thank you SO much for sharing this! You and I have similar styles when building...I've got the platform and cabinet complete, your video and instructions are easy to follow. I've made mine for a Double bed, not queen. Your idea is fantastic...after searching for weeks for a cabinet style yours truly is the best design I've seen. You're not kidding about how heavy that platform is! lol, I had to trick two big friends of mine to come carry it upstairs for me! I'll be doing the shelving unit slightly different, I want to add a slide out shelf to use for a computer, and mine will be wider.

Thanks! 😁 glad the video was helpful! Good luck with your project!
What measurements did you use to build it for a full size?
This is so amazing you’re such an inspiration pls don’t stop making videos
Amazing 👍👍👍

Thank you So much.💃
Your very welcome! Thanks! :)
This looks good as is and can't wait to see the finish product. 🙂

I'm going to modify this with pull down night stands/shelves.
Sounds like a great idea!
That was beautiful, I want one someday hihisss

Está muy bien
Thank you! :)
Don't get me wrong you're doing a great job I hit the like button but when I see someone doing wood working with sandels and socks I have to wonder sneakers or workbooks no sandels work place safety your project looks great good job.
Haha, my shoes got soaked doing some yard work and chose to ware sandals this one time. You’re very right! :) Thanks!
to cool saimons thanks have great day...
Thanks! 😀

Outstanding 👍🍺🍺
Thank you! :)
Good job brathers 👍

A gas/pneumatic strut on each side of the mattress platform would help a lot in reducing your effort when you raise and lower the bed.
Thanks for the tip! 😄
What a dream ! Create an office desk in front of the cupboard and when you get everything out, the desk with computers etc is under the bed. You don't move anything else each night.
Nice 👍🏻
The detail you share is incredible this build is so simple I was watching much more complicated videos with all the modern day hardware but such a poor explanation can we work together you could teach me additional woodworking tips
i love that he's wearing sandals in the shop
Haha Thanks! 😁 my shoes were soaked from yard work so I used my sandals this one time.
I'm not clicking links to know what happened in another video. this video this have that information. It looked good though nice job
I just found yound your channel. Awesome project. I've been thinking about putting a Murphy bed in my library for guests. Could this be made with book shelves on the face? An d how would you hold them in when lowering the bed. Ty. Liked and subbed
If you use door hinges with spring will make closing and opening easier
Simon Says.....You are working sooo hard.....Thanks for the educating video.....I am an Old Timer and thus it colours the way i view the present method of carpentry and handy work. I am wondering if it simplifies the work when one replaces nails-screws for dove-tails and that sort of thing.......and the like and would you explain if those old ways create projects that stand....time and abuse...weight....also would there be a way to create storage for blankets and pillows under bed.....Just my dreeam list-project....
Simon, first, thanks for the additional information; it really helped a lot. Sir, let me tell you, my Murphy Bed turned out great. However, with 3/4" plywood the bed (just the bed not the frame) is very heavy and that is without the mattress. I have not moved the bed into the house yet because I have a couple of important questions. With the queen size mattress, the bed might be too heavy to lift for me or my wife alone. Because I only have a total of 1/4" space, and that is counting both sides of the bed, 1/8" on each side, what type of lifting mechanism would you recommend? Or, do I have to tare down the frame and widen it? Even then, what mechanism do you prefer, spring or piston lifting mechanism and where to buy? Thanks so much; I am expecting visitors from New Orleans in October, and that bed will come in very handy.
Bummer! Still no comment! 😵💫
2yrs and counting 😂 wonder how the visitors enjoyed the Murphy bed 😅
Mantaaap pokoknya bossquh 🤝👍💪👃
Thanks! 😄
Good
Thanks! 😁
i like this for sure
i need the design details
Děkuji za podobná videa.
Když na to koukám, vypadá to jednoduše.
Ale moje umění končí s 90° úhlem.
Každý můj řez je špatný. Každá moje díra mimo požadovanou pozici.
Asi zůstanu u nakupování hotových. :-)
Thanks!! 😊
MUITO BOM. GOSTARIA DE VER UM LOFTBED.
Thanks! 😄
The good old safety slippers 😂👌
Question: When you installed this, did you anchor it to the wall?
Great build! Looking forward to building my own
Thanks so much! 😁 Yes, I made sure to find the studs in the wall and used screws across the top to hold it in place. I don’t think it would tip but you want to be careful in case anyone climbs the shelves you don’t want a kid getting crushed.
Very nice looking and any how to make rocking chair? Thanks so much
Clearly this is a real man as evidenced by his socks with sandals while doing woodwork.
What measurements should I use for a full size bed? Would spring hinges help with pulling it up & down or should I get the Murphy bed kit? Also, would 1/2” plywood work instead of 3/4” plywood? I don’t want the door to be too heavy for me to lift. Thank for the awesome video and look forward to the response.
i need to know this too
Hi i like this video my friend is very interesting but im looking for the second part of this work.
Thanks! I left the link at the end of this video.
Here is the second video ruclips.net/video/qKt_uATYHSI/видео.html
Good video, we are plastic crate and pallet manufacturer in China, thanks
9:43 you could have made tiny drawers instead of locking the space between the shelves. Drawers for cables and chargers and stuff like that
Very true! that would be a really nice feature! :)
I try that men godbless
Thanks! Goof Luck!
Definitely svaes on hardeare but that bed must drop like a ton of bricks comig down. Maybe add gas struts to the insides to have it come down easier?
I would have liked to have seen how the closing mechanism on this works.
I believe in part two I show that a little clearer. Thanks for watching and letting me know.
Are those chanclas 🩴 OSHA approved?🤨
'to see how it can be down' :D :D :D
Haha, Thanks for catching that! :) It's fixed now.
Ameiiiii
beutifull
Thank you!! :)
Great idea! Just wondering if you mean 'rigid' rather than 'rugged'
Yes, your correct. Thank you! 😄
Hello do you have dimensions of this? I love your work
New subscriber. Excellent content. One suggestion, though: use another transitional word between paragraphs other than “now.” 😊
Noted! Thanks so much :)
How are the hinges holding up so far? I'm in ai similar situation where i must choose to buy the mechanism kit or go with a custom diy cheap solution like yours for the swiwel motion of the bed frame inside the cabinet box. Without gas suspensions/counter weight is it practical to use it everyday holding up and down the whole weight of the matress with the playwood frame, quiet a weight i presume?
What kind of screws are you using for the normal butt joints? And for the surface sheet screws?
These are Kreg screws. The Kreg jig I am using to drill the holes sells screws to fit the hols perfectly and keeps it from splitting.
Why not sand everything before starting to build it? Overall great video! Keep 'em coming!
Flip-flops in the workshop!?! Not too safe! Thanks for the video though.
Good idea!
Not seen which mechanism do you use to lift the bed
Please let me know
It doesn’t have one. It is pretty heavy so that needs to be taken into consideration.
I like the no-nonsense simplicity of the design but I think you really need gas struts to stop this heavy bed from falling and injuring someone who is trying to lower it. I have also seen spring assemblages hooked into metal plates, but I feel the gas struts would be a safer option. You should be able to get all the fixtures from any major hardware store. You would need to widen the outer frame to accommodate the struts and hardware.
after pricing the materials, it would be cheaper to buy a pre manufactured murphy bed, cost of lumber these days is crazy.
Do you have plans for full size mattress?
Добавил понравившийся не смотря ролик думаю пригодится как учебное пособие.
👍👍👍
👏👍
I’m a newbie diy’er and was wondering if there are any plans this project? I’m a visual learner, so pictures help a lot!
Yes, I have plans available on my Patreon page. Check out the video description to find the link.
Thanks! 😄
muito bom ,gostaria da medida na descriçao
Thanks so much! 😃
I like your concep video... Good job? 👍👍👍
Thanks I appreciate it! :)
How did you attach the mattress and boxspring?
احسنت
This is where the expression "rough on the edge" came from
Yeah this was the very rough frame. In the next video it all comes together and looks a lot better! :)
