That’s a really great build. I used the same concept to do the front of my porch. Halfway into it, I began to question my choices. It seemed like I had to use way more lumber than I should have. The first half of the ruclips.net/user/postUgkx3ICSK6nSknaL_45CU2NmFSoXjarGMDiJ book is everything about wood: types, tools, finishes, setting up shop etc. The second half is all about doing projects for inside and outside of the home. The color pictures are helpful. After reading a dozen of these types of books, this is probably the best overall (layout, color photos, plans). Only detraction is that many of the projects use a table saw/router/planer, which are usually expensive and take up space, so the plans are less friendly to newcomers and the budget conscious. But I know I can use a drill, circular saw or a jigsaw to make the projects.
Love it. My only note would be that it's impossible to move out of that room. Some modularity in the base might make it a little more "move" friendly. Perhaps have the base separate into thirds rather than a single piece.
You could use a threaded steel rod with some washers and nuts to press it together instead of screwing every block to the next one - drill a bigger hole for the rod and screw it together at the end... then disassemble at your convenience.

Such a great video. I really appreciate that you kept the tools used to build this limited to what most average households have (with the exception of the planer). It was also really cool that you demonstrated some more advanced joinery, fit & finish techniques using entry level affordable power tools sold at Home Depot and Walmart. Your skill and use of the circular saw was impressive as well. You turned that circular saw into a Table saw, chop saw, band saw and router. Made to look a lot easier that it is for someone who is not proficient with the tools. Maybe you already have videos like that on you channel and if so I shall just add one more check box to the open mouth insert foot tally sheet for my life.

96 inch 2x4 $4. also instead of the 2x4 going across the entire bottom you can just make a box and cut 2x4 into say 1ft pieces then attach them to the box. have 2 going full length on each side. 12 boards should be enough to make box and the rest of the platform
I love the looks and idea of this bed! I saw your idea and ran with it (heavily modified) so it can be easily disesmbled and moved. I connect the spacers to the legs and the slats can slide in and out!

I like the idea and probably am going to do this myself. Was it a design choice to use so many 2X4s? I feel like it could have been done with way less boards. Just a thought.
You could do it with half of the long pieces ( bigger spaces between beams) while retaining more than enough rigidity and strength. After all most beds have just two long walls and they work. This design is simple and aesthetic, but very, very inefficient.

Less cuts and material used and one step removed from the process. My son loves it in his new apartment away from home
I love the idea, would be doing something similar soon. Can you explain how do you match the predrilled holes of the spacers to the ones of the boards ? Thanks!
no need to predrill the boards it's a 2x4 made of pine, it will be fine. If you really wanted to you could tack the spacer on with ca glue or a finishing nail or brad then drill. Honestly, though, this thing is overbuilt and will weigh a ton, if you are going to do this at least double up on the spacers and or make sure it is possible for you to separate the bed into movable pieces.

Hey Mark a quick question Why did u go with the narrower side for the base ? Does it make it more sturdy ? Just curious cuz i wanna make a heavy duty all in one table top
It's pretty but seems excessive. 5x 2x4 with supports 60" away from each other can support 500lb per foot collectively. It would have proabably made more sense to just build a regular frame box and add the pieces at the end, since you lose the length view by sticking spacers in it anyway. Plus you could make 2 or 3 separate boxes and bolt them together so you can move it between rooms and upstairs with a lot less effort and damage. The sides could even be doubled up if you want that full length piece without seams (if not painted. I like the idea and look, minus the supports.

You can make similar platform beds using like 1/8 the amount of wood so you can pick up varnish to finish it!
Looks real good.. Really love how simple it looks while also looking creative.. But the only problem is it's really dangerous to have kids around the bed.. They could trip over and hurt themselves.. And it looks really difficult to clean it up..
Is the saw dust being saved for the garden? Desert ground needs nutrients, ect., correct?
This bed frame has more studs in it than my entire house!
jk, looks dope
Hey Mark a quick question
Why did u go with the narrower side for the base ?
Coming from someone who never built a thing in his life.
@@bldfit46 right.. only I do. look up sagulator from woodbin and you might understand the point I'm trying to make. When you build you should build with mobility in mind. Not constant, just the ability to get into most rooms with little issue.
@@4b0d3 the hell is up with the hate with your comment, some people are just all day negative
I agree. Beyond overbuilt. It's gonna be nonsensically heavy. Its a silly, expensive, indulgent, and not even that nice looking design. He build a backyard deck....and then put a mattress on it.
@@emmaloref1438 he's giving honest feedback, while it looks pretty it is definitely over engineered and excessively expensive and heavy, not to mention hard to move in and out of a house, if need be, nevertheless if it makes him happy then power to him, but for someone who might not be able to buy the entirety of the lumber for this build this information is important, as they can work around the challenges presented
Hey @ModernBuilds, what a great looking bed! I am wondering how this bed is still holding up 2 years later. Any warping in the headboard as the 2x4s dried out over the years.
This is absolutely fantastic such a beautiful and simplistic look, well done!
