@Ariona Jireh Dela Peña but they dont tell us who Diana's mom is and no one not even gods can just MAKE a goddess, anyway WW must have been years older than Percy still and yeah Percy's skill . . .
It's possible that in this canon Ares was stronger than all the other gods save for Zeus himself - and maybe even him. I mean if you go to original Greek mythology, it's always one generation of deities being stronger than the previous one, the son dethrones the father. Uranus was dethroned and castrated by Chronus, and to prevent the same fate, Chronus ate his own children. Then baby Zeus was saved by his mother and grandmother, made his father Chronus regurgitate his sibilings and dethroned his father (along with four uncles and several cousins.) When Zeus first wife, the titaness Metis was pregnant with Athena, there came a prophecy that Athena would be wiser than Zeus, and after her, Metis would have a boy; Athena's brother would be stronger and more powerful than his father. So Zeus ate Metis pregnant and all and took Hera as his wife. Ares was the first born and is always considered the physically strongest of Zeus's children - though not the wisest or most skilled, since he often lost to Athena in strategy and to Apollo in sparring. The people behind DCEU may have conceived Ares to be stronger than even his uncles.
My only problem with the story: Ares never bested Athena. He couldn't. Every time the two confronted, Athena came out victorious. Still, love the visuals.
In Greek mythology, Ares is usually portrayed poorly because of what he represented as a god of war (Greek mythology is symbolically interpreted). However, what Ares represents is more complex than that, which is exemplified by the Roman Pantheon that rather favoured Mars (the adopted version of Ares) and represented him as a military power to secure peace. Although in Homer's myths, he is mostly presented as the violent and chaotic side of the war, some Greek states as the Lacedaemons (Spartans) held him in high esteem and also favoured him. Regarding the relationship between Ares and Athena then mythologically is complicated, however as presented in Homer's "Iliad" Athena doesn't risk hand to hand combat with Ares, instead helped Diomedes defeat Ares by using Hades helmet of Invisibility and setting Ares's spear off course. Therefore when did she defeat him in hand to hand combat? The main problem with this story is not that Ares defeated Athena, most certainly, you are correct Athena could flee or find a way to defeat Ares and that doesn't particularly must be by combat, although there is always an element of surprise, which could catch Athena off-guard. This is just a DC comics story, therefore they don't need to hold to orthodox or traditional Greek Myths. Personally, I don't mind they buffed Ares, he is way underrated in Greek Mythology for what he should be as Physical Form of God Of War. Although I think Wonder Woman killed him so Its a RIP.

So Ares Wonder Woman fought was a lot weaker then what he once was? You know, since he was able apparently to clear all Olympus by himself and even fatally wound Zeus beforehand, and after he received his wound he was so weak he couldn't even kill humans by himself and is forced to hide himself and use desception and lies as his weapons? Fascinating. Imagine how powerful Ares must've been before Zeus wounded him. I bet he would crush Wonder Woman with a single strike.
Mateusz Tur Its kinda the same story in the comics, Ares is much much more powerful than wonder woman and he could obliterate her in a moment. But sadly due to plot wanting the hero to always win. Wonder woman somehow wins
Tryhard ninja108 well I cant remember correctly, but wasnt it mentioned that Ares was STILL recovering from his battle? That could explain why Wonder Woman was able to defeat him rather easily.
No that's no true if you have watched the film ares wanted Diana to join so he was using medium or moderate power on in the final battle with Diana henceforth "join me or die " he wanted Diana to kill the humans so he was fighting her just enough for her to say yes but he underestimated Diana's power heck Diana underestimated her self ,ares and her power she thought the way she killed Ludendorff she could kill ares but her power was unlocked in the final so she did a surprise move on. Ares .ares used the lightning to kill the gods when he realised that Diana is not going to join him he saw her as a threat but underestimated her gauntlets he thought they would not absorb the lightning but they did
Maybe he could crush Wonder Woman with a single strike, but remember that Diana is not part human, part god; she is part Amazon, part god. She is a demi-god because she carries the genes of the gods and her mother, Hippolyta, an Amazon. The Amazons were created after Man to pacify them. They are, in a sense, a superior creation, physically, mentally, emotionally, and, potentially, in capacity for love, wisdom, and empathy. So Diana is a demi-god because she is part god and part Amazon (better version of man). If Ares had been weakened by Zeus and foiled by his own self-confidence, Diana could have an advantage over him. To me, this makes sense. It is a matter of deductive reasoning.
Now that's what i'm talking about, people bitching about ares beign too op in the movie because in the mitology etc etc is a damn movie from a comic universe where lucifer is walking on Hollywood boulevard and there is a Superman, they could take some creative liberties and make ares op just for the sake of the story

Lord Byron 😂😂😂😂😂 On a serious note though Hippolyta is lying to her. Diana actual origin is that she is the daughter of Zeus and Hippolyta due to them banging
He couldn't kill Ares. In greek mythology the sons is more powerful than their fathers. Ares is not a skillfull fighter like his father and brothers, but still too powerful to be killed. Diana is the next generation that should be more powerful than Ares, that's why he creates her.
Why are people's panties in a twist about Ares ? This is DC, their version of Greek mythology. Same with Marvel, they completely turned Thor and the Norse mythology on its head with things like the whole "worthy" thing, cause in actual Norse mythology, there is no worthy thing. It's amazing how people can't see this point.
But it contradict both the mythology and the comic. In the comic Zeus can solo the whole Olympus and can casually kill superman. And Ares is not even that strong compare to the other god. He is like the runt of the family alway getting beat up by Athena, Wonder Woman, Superman, etc.
Of all the things to complain about this movie, this ain't it chief. Dumbfucks love to be outraged. A simple Google search would reveal that there is in fact a DC character Ares, whom this is based on.
@@MrDeathCell So? Marvel did the same thing. They turned the Norse gods into aliens with sci-fi tech, when in the comics they were actual gods with supernatural powers and Asgard looked like a medieval Norse society. They also turned Mjölnir into an Excalibur-like weapon that only the "worthy" can wield when in the mythology, the hammer could be used by anyone. If anything, the MCU deviated from its source material even more than the DCEU did.
This kinda explains how Ares could've beaten Uxas. There was a war going on and he gets strength from that so it makes sense if, strategy-wise that Ares would deliver the finishing blow.
Then a kryptonian came to earth and became the god of supreme, hope, light and soul to protect the man, humanity, mankind and justice. They call him superman
Diana: And who's the man with the red stripe on his face behind Ares, Mother? Hippolyta: That is Kratos...he's.....I'll tell you about him when you're older my child.
His power depends on how big a war is. World war in human countries power him up a little but the war against darkseid was legit a war between 2 planets and thus he was powered up to the max

Good movie, very entertaining. Interesting how much the mythological origin story varies from the original source material (not the DC universe). In the Iliad (V), Athena (through Diomedes), defeats and wounds Ares, who goes crying and whining back to Zeus, reprimanding him for his favoritism to Athena. Showing his disgust at Ares brutal ways, he basically tells him if he wasn't his own son he would have been thrown out of Olympus: "Then with an angry glance from beneath his brows spake to him Zeus, the cloud-gatherer: “Sit thou not in any wise by me and whine, thou renegade. [890] Most hateful to me art thou of all gods that hold Olympus, for ever is strife dear to thee and wars and fightings. Thou hast the unbearable, unyielding spirit of thy mother, even of Hera; her can I scarce control by my words. Wherefore it is by her promptings, meseems, that thou sufferest thus. [895] Howbeit I will no longer endure that thou shouldest be in pain, for thou art mine offspring, and it was to me that thy mother bare thee; but wert thou born of any other god, thus pestilent as thou art, then long ere this hadst thou been lower than the sons of heaven.” www.perseus.tufts.edu/hopper/text?doc=Perseus%3Atext%3A1999.01.0134%3Abook%3D5%3Acard%3D864 Later on in the Iliad (XX) Ares engages Athena directly and promptly gets smacked down with Athena mocking him : "And Zeus heard it where he sat upon Olympus, and the heart within him laughed aloud [390] in joy as he beheld the gods joining in strife. Then no more held they long aloof, for Ares, piercer of shields, began the fray, and first leapt upon Athene, brazen spear in hand, and spake a word of reviling: “Wherefore now again, thou dog-fly, [395] art thou making gods to clash with gods in strife, in the fierceness1 of thy daring, as thy proud spirit sets thee on? Rememberest thou not what time thou movedst Diomedes, Tydeus' son, to wound me, and thyself in the sight of all didst grasp the spear and let drive straight at me, and didst rend my fair flesh? Therefore shalt thou now methinks, pay the full price of all that thou hast wrought. [400] So saying he smote upon her tasselled aegis-the awful aegis against which not even the lightning of Zeus can prevail-thereon blood-stained Ares smote with his long spear. But she gave ground, and seized with her stout hand a stone that lay upon the plain, black and jagged and great, [405] that men of former days had set to be the boundary mark of a field. Therewith she smote furious Ares on the neck, and loosed his limbs. Over seven roods he stretched in his fall, and befouled his hair with dust, and about him his armour clanged. But Pallas Athene broke into a laugh, and vaunting over him she spake winged words: [410] “Fool, not even yet hast thou learned how much mightier than thou I avow me to be, that thou matchest thy strength with mine.” www.perseus.tufts.edu/hopper/text?doc=Perseus%3Atext%3A1999.01.0134%3Abook%3D21%3Acard%3D400 Athena represented strategy, tactics and virtue, Ares bloodlust, rage and violence. Also, Zeus is by far mightier than all the Gods combined, let alone Ares alone who not only would not stand a chance, but as we have seen, is not even on par with Athena. As Zeus says in the Iliad (VIII): "then shall ye know how far the mightiest am I of all gods. Nay, come, make trial, ye gods, that ye all may know. Make ye fast from heaven a chain of gold, [20] and lay ye hold thereof, all ye gods and all goddesses; yet could ye not drag to earth from out of heaven Zeus the counsellor most high, not though ye laboured sore. But whenso I were minded to draw of a ready heart, then with earth itself should I draw you and with sea withal; [25] and the rope should I thereafter bind about a peak of Olympus and all those things should hang in space. By so much am I above gods and above men.” So spake he, and they all became hushed in silence, marvelling at his words; for full masterfully did he address their gathering." www.perseus.tufts.edu/hopper/text?doc=Perseus%3Atext%3A1999.01.0134%3Abook%3D8%3Acard%3D1 Nonetheless, an enjoyable and entertaining movie.

Zeus is all powerful. If one of his children dare challenged him, he could strip them of their power or curse them into monsters. It would also strike me odd that he would kill his entire family, all of mankind and then what? Live on Paradise, Earth by himself for eternity?
Zeus could take on the rest of Olympus because he has the most OP weapon in existence, Hephaestus could because he could build a robot army to take on all of the gods and Athena is a good enough strategist to potentially exploit all their flaws and weaknesses and take them all down. None of the others would be able to achieve this.
2:26. Zeus: It did not have to be this way, my son. This path is of your choosing. Ares: A choice from the gods is as useless as the gods themselves. Zeus: Even now, as the last of your powers dissolve, you continue to defy me? No matter. Everything you have ever known, Ares, will no suffer because of your sacrilege. You will never be the ruler of Olympus. The cycle ends here.

@Ariona Jireh Dela Peña but they dont tell us who Diana's mom is and no one not even gods can just MAKE a goddess, anyway WW must have been years older than Percy still and yeah Percy's skill . . .
so......Ares killed Hades and Poseidon? okay
Not likely, i suppose Hades didn't give two shits about this war.
Poseidon perhaps.
At this hades hated the other gods
no, they probably retreated or were neutral
It's possible that in this canon Ares was stronger than all the other gods save for Zeus himself - and maybe even him.
I mean if you go to original Greek mythology, it's always one generation of deities being stronger than the previous one, the son dethrones the father. Uranus was dethroned and castrated by Chronus, and to prevent the same fate, Chronus ate his own children. Then baby Zeus was saved by his mother and grandmother, made his father Chronus regurgitate his sibilings and dethroned his father (along with four uncles and several cousins.)
When Zeus first wife, the titaness Metis was pregnant with Athena, there came a prophecy that Athena would be wiser than Zeus, and after her, Metis would have a boy; Athena's brother would be stronger and more powerful than his father.
Ehr okay, though, I have second thoughts about Ares defeating the Elder Gods. I mean, you know. 😶
The movie never says that Ares killed *ALL* the gods. It never even implies that.
What if it wasn’t a fair fight. What if Ares used underhanded tactics to kill Athena. It never says Ares defeated all the gods it says he killed them.
Ares only killed the gods that Zeus had led to the defense of the Amazons. That didn't include *every* god.

Ares .ares used the lightning to kill the gods when he realised that Diana is not going to join him he saw her as a threat but underestimated her gauntlets he thought they would not absorb the lightning but they did
The same way Batman’s bitch ass always manages to remain unbeatable. But I never hear anyone complaining about that.
She is truly the most astounding woman I've ever seen in almost 60 years. Breath taking.

Greek Myhology KRATOS in marvel (God of war)
Norse Mythology THOR in marvel
(God of thunder)
CHEAT DC
I'm upset about this because I wanted a series of Wonder Woman movies where she interacted with the Greek gods.

Showing his disgust at Ares brutal ways, he basically tells him if he wasn't his own son he would have been thrown out of Olympus:
"Then with an angry glance from beneath his brows spake to him Zeus, the cloud-gatherer: “Sit thou not in any wise by me and whine, thou renegade. [895] Howbeit I will no longer endure that thou shouldest be in pain, for thou art mine offspring, and it was to me that thy mother bare thee; but wert thou born of any other god, thus pestilent as thou art, then long ere this hadst thou been lower than the sons of heaven.”
www.perseus.tufts.edu/hopper/text?doc=Perseus%3Atext%3A1999.01.0134%3Abook%3D5%3Acard%3D864
Later on in the Iliad (XX) Ares engages Athena directly and promptly gets smacked down with Athena mocking him :
"And Zeus heard it where he sat upon Olympus, and the heart within him laughed aloud [390] in joy as he beheld the gods joining in strife. But Pallas Athene broke into a laugh, and vaunting over him she spake winged words: [410] “Fool, not even yet hast thou learned how much mightier than thou I avow me to be, that thou matchest thy strength with mine.”
www.perseus.tufts.edu/hopper/text?doc=Perseus%3Atext%3A1999.01.0134%3Abook%3D21%3Acard%3D400
Athena represented strategy, tactics and virtue, Ares bloodlust, rage and violence.
Also, Zeus is by far mightier than all the Gods combined, let alone Ares alone who not only would not stand a chance, but as we have seen, is not even on par with Athena. As Zeus says in the Iliad (VIII):
"then shall ye know how far the mightiest am I of all gods. By so much am I above gods and above men.” So spake he, and they all became hushed in silence, marvelling at his words; for full masterfully did he address their gathering."

Well he's technically not an Olympian, but regardless I doubt he could take on Zeus and Poseidon together.
