I had front row seats for ELO at Madison Square Garden in 1978. It was astounding. No other band was ever like them. This album "A New World Record" is perfect.
I was at the September 15 show. Second nite. Jeff even said he wish the technology was better cus he didn't like Mr.Blue sky. Zeppelin77 was my favorite show
Thanks, Critical - no, NOT too much content.. I enjoy it all.. and ELO/Jeff Lynne are fantastic.. this is early stuff... love it! (p.s. the break between verse & chorus is known as the "bridge")
Exactly what I was going to say, Shangri-la. How do you pick a favorite between songs like Can't Get It Out Of My Head, Showdown, Do Ya Want My Love, Rockaria, too many to name..
ELO's best song. Still fresh, still fascinating, a wee bit of prog rock with the usual power pop mastery Our host expressed a wish for more violins/strings: KANSAS
You are definitely my favorite music reactioner you play all the music I grew up with. ELO, Ramones, moody blues, Harry nillson etc. Thanks so much for your content!
You do put out a lot of content, but it's all awesome so I'm NOT complaining 😊 I've been an ELO fan since the mid70's, great to see others discovering my favorites. Check out ELO's "Shangri-la", "Showdown", "Do Ya", "Rock and Roll is King", too many to name. Love your channel, great community, what a musical journey.
A list of some songs with great violins/strings: Van Morrison: "Caravan", "Saint Dominic's Preview", "Listen to the Lion", "Here Comes the Night", "Into the Mystic" from the live album "..It's Too Late to Stop Now...Volume I" Van Morrison: "And the Healing Has Begun", "Steppin' Out Queen", "Troubadours", "Rolling Hills" from the studio album "Into the Music" Van Morrison: "Madame George", "Astral Weeks", "Ballerina", "Sweet Thing" from the studio album "Astral Weeks" Big Star: "For You", "Blue Moon" from the studio album "Third/Sister Lovers" Bob Dylan: "You're a Big Girl Now", "One Too Many Mornings", both Live at Hughes Stadium, Ft. Collins, CO - May 1976 Procol Harum: "A Whiter Shade of Pale", live in Denmark 2006 The Rolling Stones: "Country Honk" from studio album "Let it Bleed"
Jeff Lynne the Master. 27 Top 40 songs as ELO, formed the Wilburys group with just an ex Beatle, Produced Harrison, McCartney, Ringo, Beatles, Petty, Orbison, Brian Wilson, Bryan Adam’s, Take That and so many more. Plays every instrument, Producer and lead vocalist and guitarist not to mention he writes them all. Doing last tour ever now in USA. I’m flying from Australia to see the last 2 shows. He has been my hero for 47 years plus 😂
I just realized that the intro to this song, before the violins come in, is kinda similar to Elton John’s Funeral for a Friend’s first notes. (Elton’s song was released a few years earlier.) But it quickly becomes ELO’s unique, signature sound. Love that you love it! ❤
Like alot of chart bands of yesteryear they can be divided in their singles and album tracks. This was an album track but could be argued it would have made a cool single. There were several chart hits off the same album.
VIOLIN AND STRINGS HUH ??? 😊WELL IT DOESN'T GET MUCH BETTER THAN ( KANSAS ) GIB💯😊 I HAVEN'T LOOKED YET BUT : CARRY ON WAYWAYD SON, MIRACLES OUT OF NOWHERE, POINT OF KNOW RETURN, DUST IN THE WIND, PORTRAIT HE KNEW, AND THESE ARE JUST FROM 2 OF THEIR ALBUMS😊
I see you reacted to Deep Purple Smoke on the Water 2 others I'd suggest are Child in Time and my favorite Highway Star that features a keyboard solo and later incorporates the guitar solo after the next verse.
I think George Harrison or someone else, prophecied that if they were still a group, The Beatles would be making music like ELO. Also, for some memorable strings, Jackson Browne recorded with the same violinist for many years. I am mostly familiar with the album "Late for the Sky". Try a song called "For a Dancer". It is really, really good.
It took two Beatles to write their hits. It took one Jeff Lynne to write ELO's hits. The only way the Beatles would have become ELO is if John and Paul quit, and Jeff took it over.
Yo man you've done one song from REN. His new album...sick Boi. Just hit number 1 in the UK. Quite the feat for an independent artist. The song...Money game 3. Is a masterpiece. 2 million views in five days. HIGHLY RECOMMEND. Guaranteed mind blowing. Peace ✌️
Early ELO was more orchestra based. They gradually moved to a more pop sound. This album is where it all gelled. Their masterpiece. Top ten greatest of all time. Unfortunately, the way I see it, they kept going and got too pop.
Agreed. A New World Record is ELO's piece de resistance. By the time they got to the album, Time, five years later they were a different band. Still great, but not as great, and very different.
@@Cosmo-KramerThis album and Face The Music are my two favourite albums from them Cosmo. I wore out my older brother's cassette of FTM :) . I found out supposedly why Tightrope was not released as a single at the time - the record company said it was too long and wanted it shortened and Jeff told them no-way. Is that too your understanding of what happened. Is that the reason?...I will never ever get tired of listening to Tightrope.
@@Michaelfourfour I have no official reason on why they didn't, but I suspect it wasn't the song's length (it's not that long), per se, but rather it's the extended classical music intro they would've wanted shortened a lot, or cut out altogether, as kids listening to rock stations would hear it and turn the dial thinking they were on the wrong station.
@@Michaelfourfour I don't think there's another album in rock/pop history with as great a combination of the opening track's Intro and the closing track's Outro.
Nothing is more guaranteed to put a smile on your face like ELO.
I had front row seats for ELO at Madison Square Garden in 1978. It was astounding. No other band was ever like them. This album "A New World Record" is perfect.
I saw them that same summer in Philly. Amazing!
Love and have that album!
I was at the September 15 show. Second nite. Jeff even said he wish the technology was better cus he didn't like Mr.Blue sky. Zeppelin77 was my favorite show
Their best album such a classic
Fantastic song and another great one from I believe the same album is Telephone Line!
Jeff Lynne is such a talented composer, musician and singer. ELO's sound is so unique.
'Tightrope'. My favorite ELO song from my favorite ELO album ('A New World Record'). Excellent song choice.
ELO's Jeff Lynne is a phenomenal musician and his voice is so unique and beautiful.
Thanks, Critical - no, NOT too much content.. I enjoy it all.. and ELO/Jeff Lynne are fantastic.. this is early stuff... love it! (p.s. the break between verse & chorus is known as the "bridge")
You got to stay on the ELO train! This album is chock full of great songs.
A New World Record- a perfect album! Not a bad song on it... 👏
ELO had so many amazing songs. To me this is one of their top songs. So beautiful.
One of the all time greatest intros!
As you liked this, you'll probably like ''Shangri-la'' just as much.
Exactly what I was going to say, Shangri-la.

@@scottcortmeister4164 It's just called, "Do Ya". FYI
ELO's best song. Still fresh, still fascinating, a wee bit of prog rock with the usual power pop mastery

Like this though love Telephone Line even more, probably because I love singing along with it!

One of my faves from ELO.
BANGGGERRRR FOR SURE GIB!!!😊FYYYRRRRR!💯
Thank You for sharing music 🎵🎶 🎵
Loved your reaction to this one. Next I suggest “Can’t get it out of my head” and “Do Ya”. 😊

Every time I listen this song I feel so good almost like you...
That was beautiful ☮️☮️☮️💜
Forgot how good that song is. Thanks for playing it. Love the violins in this one.
"Looking at the world through dark glasses"? Yep, that's Jeff.
Your in the elo rabbit hole now!!!
I love that you post a lot of songs! I’m always excited to see what songs you will be doing!
We played this song back in 81. I always enjoyed it - especially since I played rhythm guitar until the end when I played the piano bit.
A very special song, indeed.

New World Record is a great ELO album. Mission and Shangri La are epic. Also Waterfall from Face The Music
ELO (Jeff Lynne) is a master popster.
Great reaction to a brilliant song ❤❤❤
its what we truly believe...just saying...:)

*"Tightrope",* opened the album, A New World Record. Next, react to the song that closes the album, it is called, *"Shangri-la".*
This is pretty much the best song ever written. 💯
💖💖💖
ELO, Steely Dan, Pink Floyd and the Doobie Brothers ruled the 70's!
WHATTAAAA WAY TO START OFF AN ALBUM HUH SHAWN??? 😮😊

Try " Can't get it out of my Head ".
If you want to continue with ELO you should listen to Show Down.
You should read the last verse where somebody has thrown him a lifeline and saved him. It has a happy ending. Nice reaction though.

So much Beatles influence in ELOs songs
