Hey everybody. I just wanted to put a little note here and say thanks for watching my videos. Doing RUclips, it's easy to get caught up in the numbers. And as the years go on, I sometimes focus too much on trying new animation, the video views, what's the hot new movie I have to cover, etc.
Because I'm just hunched over my tablet all the time, it's easy to forget that there are real people who are actually watching these things. Maybe that sounds weird, but I find myself getting absorbed in the cycle of “write jokes, draw a bunch of stuff, edit the video, put out the video, wow views, okay next”.
I'm not burned out or anything. I still have a lot of fun doing this. I just wanted to say thank you for watching, thank you for sending fan mail, thank you for just being here.
I'm just a dude with a weird sense of humor. But thanks for hanging out with my every week.

What confuses me is that in the original, witches are considered monsters too (like Casta from Gen 1) so… why are witches & monsters enemies now? 😂

As someone who's never seen anything related to Monster High, I was so confused by that, too. You'd think it'd make sense for witches to be considered monsters, or at least allies.
Might be a technicality. Like different lore stuff has different origins for witches. Human who practice magic are probably less like monsters vs. witches who have it run in their bloodline?

They do know a werewolf is half human and half wolf, it’s the most classic monster out there and the world knows that. I’m pretty sure we r super far away from canon material here but- fun fact: in the original books series for monster high- there was a joke early on about how monsters had taken refuge in the “wrong Salem” because the zombies didn’t realize there was more than one or research. And yes they wanted Salem specifically because they sought to ask the witches for sanctuary from humans
That would be really cool lore if any part of me thought they did that on purpose here

kinda weird that in this universe witches are separate from other supernatural creatures. they're usually all put together, even if witches are just humans with magic, magic is often not accessible to all humans, so witches are lumped together with other supernaturals, not as monsters just as non human. so it's weird they're divided in this universe and witches are considered humans
I actually think it makes sense. If you think about it, monsters, witches, etc. are clearly depicted as standing for minority groups, outcasts that are treated as something disgusting and threatening. In that way it really makes sense because it often is the case that you will have people that are part of minority groups that use the same talking points used to ruin their lives against other minority groups.
Exactly because Draculura is a vampire yet she knows how to use magic. Anything can use magic as long as they practice hard enough. So I don't get the point not putting witches with monsters.
I hate that these live action movies has destroyed the cartoon movie legacy of monster high. My daughter and I adored watching a cartoon movies but this mess right here absolutely not. Thank you Alex yet again for doing our dirty work and making it hilarious.

In all honesty, the only actor who really embodied the OG characters personality is Torelai, the actress did a pretty good job depicting her, as weird as this movie is. Yes I'm one of the people who compares to the old version but that's because the original was genuinely enjoyable. They changed so much, made the content really confusing and the main characters are now just super annoying, but I'm glad Torelai is at least more similar to her original.
i honestly have to strongly disagree…the actress did a great job yes, but that was nowhere near what Toralei is actually about. There was no laziness, no manipulating just to cause some chaos bc its fun, no pranks and most importantly not one meow…
Does that really matter though. They are not supposed to embody the gen 1 versions of those characters, but the gen 3 versions. Gen 3 used the same characters but changed them into new versions. They are not supposed to be the gen 1 versions otherwise this would be an adaptation of gen 1.

They are in the cartoon, and seemingly done pretty well.
The first real live movie and this Sequel make me upset. Did they ever watch the mini series and movies. Dracula is the founding father daughter of the school. Clawden was single living her life with her friends and family. Douse was Cleo's boyfriend and Medusa's son. So sunglasses 24/7. Clawden had an older brother that was dating Dracula. Frankie was also single. Tora was a friend and enemies. There were so many characters that made the show great. Im guessing they just did what they wanted without looking at the great masterpiece of the characters in the original drama
That's exactly what they did. This movie is a reboot for the new generation. I understand my parents now. 😆
I'm pretty sure they changed the characters on purpose to have a new take on them. Btw, I really enjoy the animated version of gen 3 where these characters really get to shine, the live action movies don't do them justice.

Yes they did watch them. And then gave a new spin on them. Because it's a reboot, not a continuation. And Frankie wasn't really single she just got a new dude every second movie. Also Dracula wasn't the school founder... that's Bloodgood. You're probably thinking of G2, so not the "great masterpiece" you're talking of but another reboot.
You know. I know that the animated Monster High movies weren’t full on masterpieces. But, most of them, were still fun to watch. I still don’t understand why this got a sequel. But that’s just me

"Tora" in this movie is like everything Toralei is not. Toralei is a monster who loves some drama, plays some pranks and is always on the side that cleo, frankie and friends are not on. she manipulates people to create chaos just to enjoy the show first row. idk what that was but certainly not the icon herself. she didn't even meow once

That’s technically connected to G1 lore, so of course they wouldn’t add Melody. She only appeared for the book series associated with G1… this is G3 revamping all the characters and story as you see here :3
Ok but Descendants actually slayed and had a good and stable plot and it actually was intriguing to know the plots. Irl Monster High is like those movies where they just throw in the most random ideas and call it a day.

Out of all of the characters Toralei is probably the one they kept most similar to her original version. Also kind of disappointed that instead of Valentine they had some other vampire guy (which I don't remember the name of). I was hoping since this was a Draculaura centric movie they would bring back Valentine since he's a pretty big fan-favorite despite only appearing in one movie. (Which they totally should've brought him back like he never even appeared in the web-isodes let my man have some on-screen character development besides the comics!)

The thing I remember most about series like MH is the female characters always wear high heels regardless of where they are and what there doing.
People talk about the main female character from Jurassic World running around in high heels in the first movie and yet nobody brings this up.

Honestly, my favourite part about this movie was the tease for a third movie at the end and that's only because it's setting up a Frankie focused movie for the third one and she's my favourite from the old monster high movies. The focus on Draculaura was nice too, but if the third is going to be like this one, unfortunately, Clawdeen would still take most of the shine😔

As an OG Monster High fan I obviously have a lot of complaints, but the thing that stuck out to me most after this movie is that Clawdeen had so much more chemistry with both Draculaura and Toralei than she did with Deuce. There were scenes in both live actions that felt like they were setting up a Clawdeen x Draculaura romance, especially with the weird breakup song, and that ending scene with Toralei talking about Clawdeen's new scars and holding her hand for WAY too long... idk every scene with Deuce just felt dry in comparison, but maybe that's because Deuce as a character was dry lmao
I LIVE for this reviews, I kinda like knowing what happens in this horrible movies, and Alex gives me the option of knowing without going through the pain of watching them
I'm so confused about the witch magic bad premise because.... that was nowhere in the original? Like? What? It was typically just stuff like "Oh yeah this ancient genie can grant wishes and maybe sorta has an evil counterpart who can possess those who awaken the genie and will enslave the world."

And the girls' aspirations were centred around fashion. They aleays had an original outfit for every movie and they always looked incredible, but in these movies they just look so bland. Also, WHERE ARE CLAWDEEN'S SIBLINGS?? CLAUDE? CLAUDIA? HOWLEEN?? also if theyre tryna make something happen between Claudeen and Deuce that would really just suck because Claudeen was confirmed to be a lesbian in the originals. The animated movies were just so awesome and so much fun but this just seems to take away anything different or defininv about the characters, and it just sucks.

The difference is, a boss usually already has WAY more health than you, PLUS, their hits do like 4x the damage your hits do. Bosses shouldn’t be able to heal themselves. I would love to see Alex's thoughts on Ever After- between Drew Barrymore and Anjelica Huston, it's one of the few Cinderella-esqe movies that just does it perfectly. It had the "strong female lead" as it should be. Plus, their version of Leonardo da Vinci is the best character in the movie hands down. 😂

Monster High is Nickelodeon
Regardless, even not being a Monster High fan, I've never seen so much behind the scenes toxicity surrounding a Disney Channel movie nor a Nickelodeon network movie! I have to say Nickelodeon NETWORK movie and not just Nickelodeon movie because...you know...The Last Airbender.
The director is apparently a racist and made racist movies before and is probably the reason why he chose a light skinned actress to play a dark skinned character! And the movie apparently did the bare minimum to please the fans. It's insane!

Alex posted a new video, I have a Hershey’s cookies and cream chocolate bar, it’s 10:35 at night, I’m laying in bed...life is good.
I love the og monster high, I also noticed that the second movie is another version of the 2012 movie: Ghouls rule. The entirety of Ghouls rule being about how humans are bad, they cause issues for monsters, and they terrorize monsters. Torelai does kind of the same thing in Ghouls rule as Frankie is all for humans not being so bad just like how clawdeen is in the live action. The school becomes kind of divided like how they become divided in school. The witches are kind of like another version of Lilith Van Helscream whereas they're after monsters specifically. Along with the monsters who are willing going into the human world to discover more in the 2012 Ghouls rule movie. Idk, it feels like a really bad homage to the original monster high movies in general too. Watching the live action MH is like a smack in the face with a trout.
