What a joy to be able to read the score at the same time as we discover these unfortunately unknown concertos! Thank you for sharing
Always wonderful to hear Felijia Blumenthal . Arensky did write some good music . This is the average ,ordinary late-Romantic concerto easily forgotten but the musicians here make it sound better than it is thank goodness for that !
@MrInterestingthings -- Oh...but then you MUST hear his "Morceaux" and "Characteristic Pieces" for Piano + Opera Nos. 22, 25, 28, 30, 33, 34, 36, 41, 42, 52, 53, 63, 74.....Cheers from Acapulco!
My favorite piano concerto ever since I heard it for the first time almost 25 years ago. THANK YOU FOR THE SIMULTANOUS MUSIC SCORE DISPLAY !!!! I have the complete score, but can make no sense of it. If there were a replay of this life I would want to be able to play the piano and enjoy piano concerts by Arensky, Rachmaninov and others even more than when just listening to them..
Another excellent concerto, the first two movements were my favorite. I've never heard so many unknown (unknown to me) concerti in a row, this has been very enjoyable so far and very educational, thanks for sharing!
In my person opinion, this concerto is not much sounded Chopin or Rach but it sounds Liszt and Saintsaens as well as this concerto is so unique. Wonderful work .
1) Concerto is love, concerto is life. 2) Lyapunov's concertos might be a possibility in the future; fellow scorer olla-vogala has already done Scharwenka's. 3) Contemporary? Just wait and see... hopefully, anyway...
+thenameisgsarci I'd love to see a score video of Ornstein's concerto now that the two piano manuscript is on IMSLP, it's not 100% legible or the best scan but it's such a brilliant work and seeing it out there would be really fantastic. Do you think there's any chance of that? If not I might try my hand at it.
Overall, I really like this piece, however I feel that the 3rd movement is a underwhelming, or at least it sounds like that in this recording. Also I feel that the dynamic range isn't that vast. Then again I'd like to hear this piece from some first class pianists, to be able to judge it properly.
The orchestra part is seemingly quite insignificant. Just like the two Chopin concerti. Great writing for the piano but the orchestra adds virtually nothing.
I. Allegro maestoso - 0:23
II. Andante con moto - 12:24
III. Scherzo-Finale (Allegro molto) - 18:28

I'll suggest you take your time eating them, because this buffet is too far from over. >:D
Excellent! :)
Andante: 12:25
Allegro Molto: 18:25
@@ludwig2019-
Underrated Concerto, perhaps not so famous because it isn't the most original or innovative work written at that time.
Thanx a lot for sharing! What a pleasure!

3:51 -6:03 that melody...
Bravo super concerto
-- His solo "Characteristic" pieces, Opera 36 & 53 are sensational, too. Greetings from San Agustinillo!
This is fantastic! Wow. So many undersung "indie" composers out there.
Lol Scriabin and Rachmaninoff's teacher and one of the most significant late Russian romantics

such a nice work
So strong influence from Chopin's no.2 Concerto but anyway sounds beautiful.
Rather Chopin's Variations in B-flat on "Là ci darem la mano" from Mozart's "Don Giovanni"

Anton Arensky - Piano Concerto in F minor, Op. 2 - Felicja Blumenthal - Brno Philarmonic Orchestra - Jiří Waldhans
I like your recent piano concerto rampage. Will you also do Lyapunov's concertos or any of Franz Xaver Scharwenka's concertos?Or anything contemporary?
1) Concerto is love, concerto is life.

I am looking forward to your future uploads and thanks for giving me a heads up for the Scharwenka.Keep up the good work :)
Thank you very much. :D

do you have any plans on doing anything by Toru Takemitsu?
Apparently, I don't have access to his sheet music, so, sorry. :/
+thenameisgsarci :( that stinks. his music is so good!
Felicja Blumnethal/ Brno Philharmonic/Waldhans Jiri
Btw the piano needs to be tuned
GaleRianes not really
I am sorry to say that his young student Rachmaninoff wrote a far better piano concerto than he does in his student year.
Chopin is hard to imitate, this is style brillant, not Chopin.

So chopenian
