Late afternoon, early evening when this gem popped up! Just had to stop and listen. I do have a great box set of Arensky's orchestral works (Svetlanov) but the Piano Concerto is new to me. At worst, and only if one is being really negative, it is a generic example of high-quality late 19th Century Russian Romantic concertante writing. However, to me, that really is the worst thing that could be said because I still found it a work of staggering beauty. I was drawn in immediately, enchanted by the writing, the playing (of soloist and orchestra) and the recorded sound. It's wonderful to come across unfamiliar music that is so good, it grips you, seeming to make the world a better place. Many thanks! Another listen is now called for.........
