I love the resemblance to road going cars and I believe it can bring back some of that competitive rivalry between brands that has been dwindling off since the introduction of the zb and the lack of the falcon. I would also be interested to see in future if this can inspire other manufacturers into the sport again such as bmw, Merc, Nissan etc and hopefully with a little bit of b.o.p create a more diverse field as seen in other categories but remain v8 supercars. Idk just a wish of mine but this is still an improvement.

Well since Chev has never been sold in Australia until now I can't see any brand loyalty, I've written off the cars and follow drivers instead, it's not like they're even loyal to manufacturer either, give them the right circumstances and they jump the boat, there is no more brand loyalty and this arrival of Chev on the death of Holden is definitely not going to spark it, I have no idea where this comes from as I have no fondness for either brand now, Chev is an American brand that has never before featured in Supercars (Don't confuse early ATCC with Supercars, they're not the same thing) not in dealerships or showrooms in Australia, it's a stranger brand despite their classics. There's not going to a brand rivalry because there's no way for the fans to get behind one of the brands, most people can't afford a ZR-1 and that's all Chev is interested in marketting here, if it wasn't for Supercars they would have written Australia off, and they even said that, they get no loyalty from me and as for Ford they sacked thousands of Aussie workers to take their business offshore, while I respected them back in the day I could never respect them now or in the future as a brand, they want to write off Australia too except for SUV market. Supercars is now American brands on Australian tracks, especially with the American born Mustang and the Chev, might as well just have a new Nascar division running only road circuits and not ovals, then they could make decent profit of American viewing rather than the limited profit Australians put toward motorsport, there's not that many of us.

@@chrisunderhay1102 You do know GM Bought Holden back in 1931. And that all Holden's were based on American styles until the VB Commodore which was styled on the GM Owned German Opel. The V6 was a Buick V6 from America, and the Chevy 5.7 Ltr LS1 replaced the local 5 ltr in 1998. And the Fords and Holden's of the 80's onwards were race cars and nothing like the car on the road except for looking the same outside. As a Yank, I am very envious and jealous of the Gen 3 Supercar. They look SPECTACULAR because they look like a car that you can buy. I know they are super sophisticated cars under the skin, but they at least look like the actual street cars that they represent. Here in the States, NASCAR is getting a little closer with their "Next Gen" cup cars but they still don't look as close to the street cars as the Gen 3 Supercar. To an old time fan (from the early 60's, it is important for a "stock car" to look like a "stock car". Can't wait to see these in a race. They remind me of the Trans Am from 1966 through the early 70's. We still have Trans Am in the U.S., but it is not the same and not as good as the original.

NASCAR is a joke. Next gen cars aren't even really that different from before. NASCAR should be renamed to reflect it's oval racing nature like NASSRA (ie, North American Super Speedway Racing Association), and then make actual NASCAR actually based on real stock cars - similar in fashion to Gen3 and race at tracks that combine superspeedway and road course style racing. Like figure 8 loops and so forth. And also just race at regular road courses. Until then, I ain't giving no time to Nascar.

Ive worked in U.S Auto Racing (Indy) and in the Australian Super Car Series in the early 90's.
I literally talked to the V.P of NASCAR at the 2011 SEMA Show about what they're rolling out now in the U.S and Australia!!
Its about the U.S Auto Manufacturers getting the most bang for their buck from there demogrphic and thats all there is to it mate.
NASCAR was failing (Losing viewers) dismally in the U.S and Ford and GM Australia where failing dismally financially.
Frankly its pretty obvious to see what and why this has happened to be honet.
You will potentially see an amalgamadtion of the two series over the next couple of years.
I personally hate with a passion spec car racing !!!

Co-driver changes are going to be interesting.
I can only guess why the potential for paddle shifts is "future proofing" the car, perhaps to deal with hybrid technology when they allow it.
All in all, well done crew. Gen 3 is a big leap over Gen 2.
    Bring on the racing.

    • @louiscypher4186

It's because these boxes are electronically controlled and the engines they are connected to are designed with electric shift boxes.
Paddle shifting isn't "future proofing" it's from the mid 2000's supercar's is always a decade out of date.
Even if they go with a "stick" its not going to be a real stick. As can be seen in this clip it's just a paddle designed to look like a stick.

It's such a sad day when after nearly 50 years of home grown Aussie muscle we go back to American muscle. Not denigrating the Mustang or Camaro, it's just not what I grew up with - Toranas and Falcon GTHO, Commodore and Falcon. I understand the economics of it all, and we are a very small market, it's just a little home-grown pride has slipped lower again. I know in the past a great part of the cars we saw on a Sunday, and went to buy on Monday were very much not Aussie through and through, but it was nice to "think" they were. Love the big V8 and so very glad they chose to continue this, and as many others have said, please, please, please keep the shift lever and don't go to the "flappy" paddles...

    • @scenicdepictionsofchicagolife
      @scenicdepictionsofchicagolife 2 года назад +1

I must say it's quite strange to see domestic models racing down under. the falcons and commodores of old really were fantastic cars and I feel honored that we got some rebadged Holden models stateside for at least a little while. We got them in the form of the final generation Pontiac GTO and the final generation Chevy SS sports sedan. I'm not entirely sure what models they corresponded to in the ADM - my memory is crap. I do believe one of them was the commodore though.
Anyway, I hope that despite all that, y'all find the mustang and camaro palatable. I personally have always been a mustang guy as my father and grandfather have all been huge mustang enthusiasts. The current S550 generation is the best mustang yet and the (now discontinued) Shelby GT350 variants was one of the most special cars to come out of Ford in a LONG time. It is truly a wild car, I'd suggest watching Matt Farah's POV drive of it.
