The songwriting is absolutely fantastic here. (Provided you catch the double meaning of it.) But I also think that this is Paula's best vocal! Yes, she was nominated for best female pop vocal for Straight UP, but that song is not nearly as difficult to sing.@@darrellthomas884

The video does this song justice. When the video came out I thought that Paula Abdul was one of the finest women to walk the planet. Still my favorite.
Funny, but my 30 year old son saw this video for the first time last night and asked when Paula Abdul put this out. I told him the late 80s. His immediate reaction was "I guess everyone wanted to be Janet Jackson back then." I laughed and explained that it was Paula Abdul who choreographed Janet Jackson's video "Nasty" which basically rebooted her career. He was flabbergasted. See, always something to teach these young whippersnappers. 😉
Randall Clarkson I agree. It was one of the first singles released on "Forever Your Girl" and wasn't as popular as the album finally got more airplay a year after it was released, so it is definitely critically underrated. The re-release with the Shep Pettibone remix doesn't do the original version justice.
