Great review. I'm on the hype train. I got a chance to spend some time with a new Supra yesterday while having my Toyota serviced at the dealer and this car looks so much better in person. When you look at the car you get what Toyota was aiming for with its proportions and size. Although these 2 cars have nothing in common, the long hood and profile the Supra reminded me of my old MGA Coupe. That thing was small and fun to drive and what really made the car enjoyable was slapping the gears in that manual transmission. I get Toyota wants to set quick 0-60 times and they want to appeal to as many people as possible but a new Supra in a manual transmission would be SWEET! Thanks for the video.
The story of the MK5 Supra is simple, the Toyota Supra MK4 moved to Germany and met, dated, maried a Mini Cooper, and they had 2 Kids the B48 Supra and the B58 Supra.
I picked mine up last week, in Prominence Red… I had the dealer powder coat the alloys black and it just looks amazing. I was considering a Cayman or M2 but in the end the Supra won me over because it just looks AWESOME. I get so many people asking me about it and no one really knows what it is. Also here in London I’ve never seen another one on the road so it’s nice to have that novelty factor in a world where Porsche’s and BMW M Cars are two a penny. Great review, thank you so much. The only thing I need to do is get some carbon wind deflectors to fix the buffeting but it’s not really an issue since winter just hit over here. I love your reviews, thank you so much! A BMW M car wrapped in a gorgeous Supra shell = me very happy. Everytime I hit the start button I have a big grin on my face and the engine/exhaust sound incredible!
I wonder if the internet would be as upset about this car had Toyota instead allowed this to be a BMW badged Supra? Because the only other way to have Toyota full build this is to sell it for over 100k (R&D would be expensive) but then everyone would complain it’s too expensive for a Toyota and it’s too underwhelming for the price, then Toyota could lose over $1b on this. It would be NSX all over again. I think they just figured they can’t win...
If they would just made a monster of a 3jz for all dat boost, and didn't go full homo fake vent city style they would be alright. And mk4 front bumper please.
People do not know what it takes for a car company to create a new car. It was cheaper and faster for Toyota to let BMW do the work and they borrowed the platform. If Toyota created the Supra on their own we would be waiting a couple more years and we would be paying way more.
How about if the toyota was actually a toyota and that's all? no rebadge bullshit. People wanted a toyota supra, not a bmw with toyota design. End of story. It doesn't even matter if is a good car or not. It's not a toyota! Who likes what this car offers, can just go and buy the Z4.
Three reasons to not buy it: 1. Buffeting 2. BMW engine (cost & reliability) 3. No manual transmission Too bad, as it seems awesome in every other way. Great review. 👍
I call it popping during engine braking or shifting. Like the Corvette, it is a bargain compared to a similar BMW or Mercedes or any Italian car. Reliability is unknown now, maybe it will be better than the similar BMW Z4 convertible. A lot of cars have wind buffeting with the side windows down- it is more about better gas mileage and quieter with all the windows up. All the fake vents would make me want black paint to help hide them.
@@joshhall2323 *Ya, they said I was like the FT-1, and you're like a distant bro, the ugly version. Inspired to be like me, but disproportionate and too many fake vents.*
Ryan B if you want an automatic then get one. Some of us like manual, specially on sports cars. Not all of us race it, we just like the control of it plain and simple. I wouldn’t call this a true supra unless they make it in a manual and gets rid of all bmw parts
So it's a great car...funny how once the hype (and hate) settles, we can focus on the product. This is a far better platform than the Mark 4 Supra, BMW and Toyota are the masters of this game, great to see the signature BMW tail-happiness in full effect here.

Thb, all the BMW stuff makes the Supra so much more appealing to me. Especially in the interior as that is something I have struggled with on Toyotas whereas I pretty much love BMW interiors. But it’s great that Toyota did a way better job with the gauges.
You guys keep comparing it to an M2 Comp, but the M2 has so much more usability. For the real world where you might have to have more than 2 passengers, M2 Comp. My main issue with the Supra is the auto transmission. If you are going to make a 2 seat semi impractical sports car, why give it a practical transmission? Feels like the marketing/accounting department got involved.

@@kvrh that must be why Porsche offered the GT3 in manual for the 991.2 after a PDK only run in the 991.1 because nobody in real life buys manual anymore. Also why every single car review says "it is great, but we wish they would offer a stick". The essence of a sports car is driver involvement. Most enthusiasts who want to buy an impractical sports car that will most likely be a second car, they want the most involvement possible. Take a look at the used market right now of any sports car that was offered in automatic and manual. Manual is valued higher every single time, but nobody is buying manual anymore....

The Supra is definitely underrated by Toyota. I checked several different dyno results and this is what they produced. These numbers are all at the wheels. 339 hp 427 lbs ft 376 hp 410 lbs ft 343 hp 380 lbs ft 332 hp 387 lbs ft 344 hp 402 lbs ft 342 hp 381 lbs ft 347 hp 381 lbs ft The numbers go from a low of 332 horsepower to a high of 376 horsepower and a low torque number of 380 lbs ft to a high of 427 lbs ft. The average of all these results is: 346 hp 395 lbs ft at the wheels. I’ve read that the Supra won’t put out it’s maximum power when it’s running on a two wheel dyno because the ECU thinks something is wrong when the front wheels aren’t spinning. The first set of dyno numbers was done by Car and Driver on an AWD dyno and has the highest torque numbers but one of the lower horsepower numbers. So who knows what the real numbers are at the crankshaft but they’re obviously higher than what Toyota claims.
Despite the bmw-ness, despite the fake wents, and despite the auto, thus is genuinely a good supra successor in my opinion, easily tuneable, great sounding, sexy looking, and fun. And like the mk4, its quite practical.

TRD edition needed for this car.
TRD = Toyota Racing Development.
TRD doesn't tune BMW's. This car is 100% BMW. They were not allowed to change it.
So a 11k dollar appearance package ?
@@enigmaPL they had trd parts for it right before it was even being released to the public.
@@enigmaPL they have a TRD 86 tho and that's a subaru engine
@@enigmaPL btw toyota co-developed the engine and heavily influenced the engine design. It's more or less a toyota-designed engine that is manufactured by bmw.
I just took delivery of the premium Supra GR and its a PERFECT machine. The car is flat out quick AF , and drives like an animal !!!! And im going to let you know now that NO PARTS
Best Supra review! They tell us how it is... the good the bad no matter what
Love BMW and have coveted a Supra growing up. This is pretty much a dream come true
Sounds like it has a Mini Cooper handling and rear exhaust pop on a RWD BMW.
Most of the components are BMW but tuned by Toyota. I saw this review and it said that the suspension doesn't feel like a BMW.
The story of the MK5 Supra is simple, the Toyota Supra MK4 moved to Germany and met, dated, maried a Mini Cooper, and they had 2 Kids the B48 Supra and the B58 Supra.
@@BMWROYAL A good one 🤷♂️
Young Suga no point in calling it a Supra though I think everyone would’ve been happy if it was a “new” car you know? Like different
BMW isn't reliable
Everytime I hit the start button I have a big grin on my face and the engine/exhaust sound incredible!
i’ve had a 2023 for a week and there’s no wind buffeting issue?
also congrats. london england or london ontario?
@@fr8987 also congrats! How is your 2023 ? I’m not sure what they changed?
My B58 bmw engine in my m240 blew at 13K miles. Good luck tuning these!
I think other than to pure drive train, rest is made by Toyota anyway so its not a "rebadged" BMW tf
Octavian George most of the people complaining about the Supra being a rebadge can’t even afford the damn car lmao
Three reasons to not buy it:
1. Buffeting
2. BMW engine (cost & reliability)
3. No manual transmission
Too bad, as it seems awesome in every other way.
The front plate makes it look bad 🤦♂️
I've mounted my front plate on the left side...it's really better!
@@pikappa that's the way!
Toyota is it really you all I have to say is make a new 86 I’m waiting
Yeah, and Ontario was supposed to get rid of front plates, too. They never did.
The whole front looks ugly and lets not get into what's under the hood😬
This is probably the best review you guys have ever done.

After owning the 2021 for over a month and putting over 1,000 miles on it. It DEFF lives up to the hype!!

You guys have the best reviews! Very detailed. Keep up the great work. Awesome job!!
Like you said, this is the best BMW currently on the market. If only it also came with a manual.
Best bmw you can by is M2 hands down
This is too funny. That's my post about the wind noise on the forums lol.
I would drool over this car with a manual transmission. Toyota pleaseeee do right and make a few with a manual 🙏🏽

You’re begging at the wrong company
You're only drooling. You're not buying. That's exactly why there's no manual.
BMW produces the car. Talk to them.
The Supra just had a recall
Couple days ago i was wondering if/when will you do a review for the Supra and here it is! Thanks for the review! Might pick one up next year
Love it! This is the color I want as well. I'm saving up for one as we speak. Hopefully by this time next year I will have mine.
*M240i in a Supra shell cause it has the same B58 engine as that. The M2 comp has an S55.
I love BMW so I have no issues that the Supra has BMW parts. The Supra alone is one of my favourite cars right now
I have issues that the Supra has BMW parts. BMW is one of the most unreliable car brands ever, I just hate it.
1:38 "Future Review" anyone?
I own a A91 Supra and I totally agree with Yuri in regards to the seatbelt locking up. It happens way more than it should.
the camera work is just incredible!
I’m surprised you guys haven’t missed the manual transmission in this
No point when you have an amazing transmission like this. Why make it slower with a slower transmission?
Ryan B because manual is also fun
Ryan B lol... manual gives the car the raw feel. Look at all the iconic super cars of the 80s and 90s they all have manuals.
Buy a GT350 if you want raw feel and amazing sound with a manual transmission.
Even the M2 manual is not raw feeling.
Ryan B if you want an automatic then get one. Some of us like manual, specially on sports cars. Not all of us race it, we just like the control of it plain and simple. I wouldn’t call this a true supra unless they make it in a manual and gets rid of all bmw parts
That's my favorite Supra color 🙌🏻

BuT tHe c8 WoN't SeLl aT MsRp!?!
Hahaha accept it absolutely will and people have already placed their orders with dealers who have sold the last 5 generations of Vettes at MSRP. It's going to the best performance car for the price bar none! That just means the Z06, ZR1 and whatever hybrid wizardry super C8 they cook up will no doubt make SO many people angry. Can't wait.
Oh and anyone considering a Supra... That legit isn't going for MSRP for a WHILE! Which just shows how crazy some people are because they're actually paying $30-40k markup. That's insane!
Thb, all the BMW stuff makes the Supra so much more appealing to me. Especially in the interior as that is something I have struggled with on Toyotas whereas I pretty much love BMW interiors. But it’s great that Toyota did a way better job with the gauges.
This was a good review. The 3:01.4 posted earlier today as well is pretty impressive for its respective price.
4:42 I feel the Photoshop looks kinda better
You guys keep comparing it to an M2 Comp, but the M2 has so much more usability. For the real world where you might have to have more than 2 passengers, M2 Comp. My main issue with the Supra is the auto transmission. If you are going to make a 2 seat semi impractical sports car, why give it a practical transmission? Feels like the marketing/accounting department got involved.
You know how much manual gt 86 was sold? Less than 30 percent, and the alternative came with a crappy 6 gear auto. Stop representing the customer grouo.
in real life, no one bought manual anymore. it's a simple marketing. we did this anyway.
The mark IV photoshops are amazing. That's what the new Supra should've been.
You guys are making very good videos! I'd like to see or hear the sound system in the cars. Something overlooked.

Just curious - why do you guys test a small cup of coffee? I've never ordered that size in my life lol
Some cup holders are too deep such that they will pop the lid off a small cup or force you to grab a small cup by the lid, causing it to pop off, so it's a more challenging test than a grande cup. Although, I would like to know other things - like does a water bottle flop over in it, etc.

The Supra is definitely underrated by Toyota. I checked several different dyno results and this is what they produced. These numbers are all at the wheels.
339 hp 427 lbs ft
376 hp 410 lbs ft
343 hp 380 lbs ft
332 hp 387 lbs ft
344 hp 402 lbs ft
342 hp 381 lbs ft
347 hp 381 lbs ft
The numbers go from a low of 332 horsepower to a high of 376 horsepower and a low torque number of 380 lbs ft to a high of 427 lbs ft.
The average of all these results is:
346 hp 395 lbs ft at the wheels.
