Thank you for the tour! I left Parkchester when I was 14 (1971). I was remembering people's names as you drove past their buildings. Glad to see that The Oval was still looking good. You even drove past the 2 basketball courts that I hung out in. I was expecting someone to open their car door as you rode up Metropolitan Avenue. Great Job! BC
Thanks alot much appreciated 😊,,, I'm glad I brought u back some memories, I grew up in parkchester, wonderful area, still is,,, haha gotta be careful biking, stay tuned going to make more videos about NY
I'm in my fifties, grew up here from 4 years old to 26. It was a great place to grow up. Alot has changed..Thanks for the video. It brought back some awesome memories...
A very nice tour!! Thanks for doing it! Although I lived off Bruckner Boulevard and Rosedale Avenue from the early 1950s, Parkchester figured largely in my growing up and considered part of my extended neighborhood. Zaro's used to occupy the corner of Metropolitan Avenue and Hugh Grant Circle ( where the Boston Market is now) which was the go-to place for pastries and birthday cakes. I used to go to the public library that was on the second floor of the curved base of the corner building on Parkchester Road, down from the American movie theatre. Our dentist used to be on Benedict Avenue. There used to be a small record store, off Unionport Road, which I believe was called Harmony Records, near East Tremont Avenue. The entire block where it was located had those buildings demolished for a new development. There used to be a Woolworth store where we'd go to the lunch counter for lunch and ice cream treats. And the historic Macy's at Parkchester was often a place to shop, which was Macy's first outpost after the flagship store in Manhattan. Parkchester was built by Metropolitan Insurance Company in the 1940s. Thanks for the awesome video. Very enjoyable. But be careful on that scooter!!
Wowww love the feedback, awesome story, thanks for sharing, I remember most of those things u mentioned, I'm gonna do another video with more detail soon 👍
It still looks great if the 60 years back in time hasn't changed much still a great neighborhood to live the subways nearby to take you downtown it's probably good shopping areas and some restaurants too excellent video 🇺🇸💯👍
My old neighborhood, the construction (East Treamon & Unionport Rd) site used to be a row of stores. Including a luncheonette, record shop and the Palace Movie theater. Amazing!
And the bowling alley. I saw a double feature at the Circle. It was Cujo and some barbarian movie. At one point there were three movie theaters in Parkchester. The Palace, The Circle and I think Loews American which is now Marshals. Me and my boy used to run around all day in Macy's just hiding and running and doing dumb stuff 10 year olds do. It was great to grow up in that area in the 80s and 90s. Tuff but great.
Awesome video....I was raised there back in 1989-1995. 22 Metropolitan Oval.Great memories. There was a pet shop I remember couple of stores down from the laundromat.I went to that catholic school St Helena. Thanks for the walk down memory lane.
I love parkchester being from the Bronx i used to chill there a lot in my teens it's so beautiful . i had a friend who lived there the apartment's inside are stunning the entrance as well leading to the lobby😩❤❤ . it's like a small city/town which is why i love parkchester
Yeah definitely parkchester is awesome, great apartments and the area they keep fixing and making better, wish they never took away the movie theater 😭😭
@@mindyourcity8949 bruh i wasn't around that area to kno they had a movie theater til i was 17 looking for other options in the Bronx to see a movie besides 161 😂 . that's when i found out about the movie theater in parkchester it looked beautiful asf the architect and how it looked inside
My family moved to Parkchester in 1940 and I started grade school at St Raymond's '48 and Cardinal Hayes '52. Yes I'm one of the originals with great memories. Now 87 and still kicking in Florida thanks for the memories. You can take the boy out of the Bronx but not the Bronx out of the boy.
I left a party in Parkchester at about 2:00 a.m, on a cold, snowy evening, assured by my hosts that the subway was a 5-minute walk away and easy to get to. After a half hour of increasingly desperate walking along the complex's pitch black streets, I finally bumped into somebody who nudged me in the right direction; if not I would probably still be wandering around trying to find Metropolitan Avenue.
Yeah it really is. Just moves back here two months ago with my wife. Lived here previously 1999-2006 with my grand mother. Love the neighborhood, and most of all my apartment.
How is it?. We might be moving here very soon ? Do you know how long the commute is by car into the city ? This does look like a nice community to live in . Thanks
I'm surprised Security didn't stop you for riding your bike within the complex. Bikes aren't allowed except on the city streets in Parkchester. Also, notice there are no dogs! Parkchester doesn't allow dogs. Can you imagine how much dog shit there would be on the floor with 40k residents?

Hey, Woolworth's also know as "the 5 and 10" was where I first tasted a snow cone on a hot, hot July afternoon.

It was called Archer Street. DO you remember the Archer Deli on Beach Ave & Archer? Although called a deli it was really the neighborhood bar.
