I raised my babies in Parkchester before relocating to NJ. Thank you for the thorough walkthrough. The Bronx gave my kids street smarts before moving to the suburbs.
Thank you for posting. I grew up there 1950s to 1980s. Glad they have kept the community up. The complex is laid out in four quadrants (north, south, east and west,) with the oval as the center. You entered at the south quadrant - closest to the train. the Macys has been cut in half. It used to extend all the way to the oval. The Marshalls used to be a movie theatre. NY Bus Service ran an express bus to Manhattan. Zaro’s original store was where the Boston Market is as Hugh Grant Circle (before the parents passed and their kids expanded it. Not it is hoity toity and located in Grand Central Station.).
So good to see Zara's and Macy's is still there after all these years, My mother often walked us from Rosedale Ave to shop there. God I miss The Bronx.
Aug 2023 - You really gave a fine street wise tour with great narration. I used to live near Parkchester in the 60s. It still looks like a clean, safe neighborhood. Or else the sidewalk vendors would not be there. Did you see a motel right in Parkchester? So a visitor has a place to stay for awhile. Again, you are an energetic guide! Thanks!
It's a good neighborhood. It has it's downside but, it's better than other neighborhoods in The Bronx. I lived there from 2004 to 2011. It's heavily diverse and one of the most affordable neighborhoods in NYC. What you're seeing is writing between the Indian and Bangladesh population which is large in Parkchester.
I lived in one of the Ovals back in the early 80s. It wasn't many blacks then and we dealt with a lot of racism. But overall it was an awesome neighborhood. It was clean and a lot of the people were very nice. We were steps away from Macy's.
You should have walked through the southside of Parkchester. You passed it by Jerry’s Pizza, but I would love for you to walk through and give your opinion then head over walk through the north side, which is beautiful.
Thanks for taking is around. Can’t believe how things look so different compared to other parts of NY. Can’t wait to visit this area. Next year Melissa will be running the NY Marathon so we’ll go to many of these different areas. LOL, I need some new sneakers also. Do you film your videos after work or the weekends?

I was raised in Bronxdale but, my first apt was at 14 Metropolitan oval in the late 80s early 90s... loved it.
Good looking out for the community, it's now or never that we are being seen

Parkchester was also designed by the same architect who designed the Empire State Building.
