Born there in 1939 Beaumont Ave & 187th street. Basically a little diagonal from Artuso Bakery lived there 22years until I married, go back Bout once a month to Arthur Ave to shop, touch base with a few old friends , It certainly has changed in the past 60 years ,but no matter when I walk the streets even though most of my friends and Family have past away their spirit is always there.

Tom, watched your video last night and got the biggest kick out of it. I was born and raised in Belmont/Bronx, and they were the best years of my life. I LOVED that neighborhood in the 50s/early 60s ~ as far as we kids were concerned, there was no better place to grow up. AND we had the Bronx Zoo and Botanical Garden as our very own back yard. I wrote a book about it (it's still available on Amazon) and opened it with "Love Letter to a Neighborhood." (Belmont/Arthur Avenue: Little Italy in the Bronx.) Straight from the center of my heart. So, thank you for your wonderful tour ~ so glad you got Gil Teitel in there, he's a great guy! I only wish you could have seen it in the 1950s...99% Italian, with hilarious people on every block. Centanno! (Thanks to Lucy too!)

I am glad the Bronx is getting any attention here! Seems like Manhattan, Brooklyn, and Queens get all the love. There is a lot of history of the Bronx that has never been covered on this channel, but would love to see. Some old Bronx Historical Society tours are all that are up. The rest are pretty non-professional.

Much of the movie BRONX TALE was actually filmed in the Ditmars area of Astoria, Queens, NY. A lot of the original Italian Bronx either no longer exits or is populated by other nationalities. My favorite Italian sports figure is the outfielder slugger Rocky Colavito. I understand that he lived in the Belmont area of the Bronx during the 30s, 40s, and the early part of the 50s. He was very popular in Cleveland and Detroit back in the day. Rocky is having a hard time to qualify for the Hall of Fame. Maybe you can help him , Tom. There is a Rocky Colavito Fan Club on line.

Anne Bancroft, however, was born in what is called the Westchester Square neighborhood. Dominic Chianese is from the neighborhood, Al Pacino was born around there. The Piccirilli brothers have an illustrious career as sculptures. Also, you can't forget about the Botanical Gardens and Fordham University Rose Hill, all part of the community.

Love the videos---maybe this one is my favorite so far--simply for the historical and 'demographic' content. But I get the message, which comes through very clearly--and its very refreshing to reiterate in this way. Its a critical message to hear when thousands of under-18 folks are showing up at the southern border. Our country is the better for opening its arms. And New York's greatness is clearly a function of its diversity. Its a great message. You couldn't tell a truthful tale about any part of NYC, or so much more of the country, without pointing to diversity and immigration as a great feature of our history.

I'm a new sub from coming across your Rosevelt Island video recently and loving your videos.
The point on how people continue to go back to Arthur Ave. is on point.
All of us go there and back to there because literally, everything is there and "FRESH"
The Market for the meat, vegetables, Chestnuts ( which you were right next to ), the Turkish coffee that the lady has in her store you were in. There's just everything there and it's always welcoming, no matter which place you go to.
There don't see you as a customer, they see you as an old friend.
There was one thing you missed when talking about a Bronx Tale & Chaz... The spray painted mural on the side of the Car Wash with Chaz & A Bronx Tale.
