- Executive Producer John Aramian introduces you to a neighborhood in the North Bronx called Arthur Avenue. Steeped in tradition - third, fourth and even fifth generation business owners do things the same way as their ancestors who brought their old world traditions with them to America. This neighborhood has been through many changes....but when times have been tough these business owners -- neighbors first, competitors second -- have always found a way to survive -- and even thrive. Join us as we look through the eyes of a long time resident Lou Ferrarese.......and for the first time major business owners in a round table discussion about how Arthur Avenue became known as the Little Italy in The Bronx.
Born there 1939 ,lived there until 1961 , Go back about once a month to shop.
In 1943 we moved from 2422 Beaumont Ave to 2416 Beaumont Ave two buildings down because it had one more bedroom and it was in the front my Mother could sit at the front window and watch the world go by. The rent was 36 dollars a month .Recently I looked up the rent for that apartment ,and it was 1,450 dollars per month,I don’t know is it possible?

"I'm 100 but I feel like I'm 70" god bless that guy
My first reaction when I visited Arthur Ave was this is Disneyland for adults.
I spent the whole day on Arthur Ave and I didn't want to leave.
This documentary only scratches the surface.
A incredible neighborhood tucked away in the Bronx NY.
Greetings from Atlantic City New Jersey USA.

up near Fordham U. and the Bronx Zoo.This is where the Bronx Tale was set.60's sucked, dangerous times in fun city. Riverdale, Arthur Ave and City Island are three of the best neighborhoods in the entire city. All Bronx. And never ever think of doing something stupid, like taking something that does not belong to you in this neighbor hood Sonny's influence is alive and well.

Keep the traditions alive. Grazie ragazzi. ♥️🇮🇹🇺🇸
God bless Louis " Gigi" Inglese ,the man on Arthur Avenue. What a man ! The Bronx never left his heart.
My grandparents lived on Cambreleng and 189th when I was a kid.
Neighborhood is still vibrant and busy which exactly the crowd mentioned in this videos: mix of old timers, Italians, Albanians, college kids, tourists from all around, and former residents coming back from Westchester, Jersey, CT, and Long Island.
Neighborhood also the home of Dion and the Belmont's king of doo wop. I used to visit from Iona.
One of the very few things I miss about living in NY. Miss going to Borgatti, Teitel bro and Emilias...
Great memories! Wish we had some of those great restaurants here in North Carolina!
Love your video. Arthur Ave is now on my Bucket List. Save me some stuffed artichokes!
I think another factor of their bond is love, and mutual respect wish it was that way for all of us maybe one day give glory to God.
I gotta get over there and get me some gabbagool.
Love to see my people still progressing. Italian owned and italian workers .
Your delicious recipes please! Shrimp and clam Linguine

That last ristorante, what a feast.
Wise guys.
That's great! Miss this place so much
italian food is usually simple and delicious, easily one of the best in the world
Always the best
Love Arthur ave. Got turned on to it in the 90s from Italian American co workers
Home sweet home. I grew up at 710 E. 187 St.❤
This is such a terrific video. And all of these businesses are still around.
Now local places like Teitel Brothers, Borgotti’s, Cerini Coffee and Gifts, Mike’s Deli and others offer online ordering with nationwide delivery (and Canada too). 🇮🇹
I shopped at Teitlel Bros once. Gilbert is a very kind man.
Now that the Manhattan "Little Italy" has become a haven of expensive, trendy , Yuppie stores, the Bronx's "Little Italy" is the only one left. The business owners hung in there thru some rough times, but now the comeback is complete. The paisans have succeeded in maintaining a corner of the old neighborhood and are now flourishing with some very successful businesses. The video presents some of these old timers and the way that they all work together to survive in a very competitive business world. Arthur Ave. is a piece of the Bronx that isn't riddled with low life cheap violent crime like the surrounding areas. The paisans have kept their neighborhood virtually crime free and I wonder if there is still low key mob presence to insure the neighborhood's security. The recent well publicized burial of mob boss Frank Lo Casio indicates that there is some kind of mob presence and believe me there is nothing wrong with that.
love arthur ave
Thank you for share....
Beautiful.
want to go here ...one day .
.one day
fascinating :)
You don't see that anymore that my old neighborhoods I'm not Italia but I group up there n I work some of those restaurants good Italian people they keep it save true out the 60 70 80 from be destroyed

i want to visit!!!
RIP. I moved out of New York but I used to drive from Long Island to Mario’s in the Bronx and I’m Sicilian they have fantastic food I hope his daughter does well if I have a back up in New York I will be there
🇮🇹🇮🇹🇮🇹🇮🇹❤❤ viva le tradizioni e gli italo americani
I'd love to move back but it costs too much now. I figure I need to find a lot that's too small to build anything on and squeeze an RV into it, making that my home.
They have housing lotteries for apartments, if you don't make too much you can apply and get a nice place for cheap if you are selected.
best wishes italy
Happy New Year 🎆 The Community Outreach Associate of Pelham Parkway
I wear 5th Avenue perfume. And he wears the Bronx by skid row! We're a perfect match.. lolol
I have never seen such more prideful men.

This is an older looking video. I wonder when this was shot and if it's still a viable business area in 2016.

Your obviousley not from New York, Jews and Italians arrived in this country about the same time, they came from the areas of Europe geographically really not that far from each other. The lower east side NewYork spilled over, was Jewish and Italian. They both had issue with the Irish most of all Irish cops didn't like Jews or Italians. There was an understanding. At the time they were both trying to better themselves & very little problems between the two, and much respect as matter-of-fact many mixed marriages came from this. No one came to the USA at that time for a handout and it's no surprise that there were shops run by each in the same area. Bensonhurst is also another good example, as was Canarsie in Brooklyn.
The narrator's voice sounds like he's in Civ 5.
That the way soppose to be RIP Marrio

Arthur Avenue is nice but it's surrounded by Mogadishu.
Too bad the neighborhood is surrounded by Mogadishu.
No disrespect but most of the food is made by mexicans.
Not. Kosher. Pork. Not wheelchair friendly.
