tried the tablets at a friend's party once. the night ended with all of us raiding our friend's refrigerator and sitting in a circle drunkenly pouring straight lemon juice into our mouths and eating whatever we could find. it was...surreal.
The opposite of miracle fruit is toothpaste. The agent in toothpaste that makes it froth in your mouth when you brush is called sodium lauryl sulphate, which blocks your ability to perceive "sweet". Eat an apple or drink some orange juice and the bitter compounds are much more pronounced.
The guy who bright these to America wanted to use them for diabetics as a sugar substitute type thing. Unfortunately the head of the FDA was best friends with the guy who owned Saccharine so the FDA barred its use. It's taken 40 years for it to be brought to use again.
Hi Kitten, you are right, it's a little bit expansive. We are slightly less expansive but i have to say that Miraculin berry is one of the most expansive product in the world. It takes at least 4 years to get the berries on tries and it's an everyday job to make sure everything is ok... But those ones are produced in USA and must be much more less expansive because the quality is definitely not the same than ours which grow in natural and original environement in Africa. Cheers
I wonder if this would help diabetics as well with getting a sweet tooth fix. It seems to simply make your taste buds translate more sweet flavors than sour or tart or bitter. Fruits aren't as bad for diabetics (since it's fructose and not sucrose) but this might provide them with a sweetness they might be craving.
+Awesome Fat-Adam My mom had bariatric surgery many years ago. It did work, though now she has plateaued at a more than ideal weight she still is a ton smaller than she was. You have to follow a very strict diet for a long period of time and sugar can cause you to have problems. At the time there wasn't a shake that she had to buy, she just had to mix milk with a lot of carnation good-start and drink that several times a day to make sure to get enough protein. It is very much a life-style change though and you have to be ready to give up all the bad stuff you like to eat.
+Awesome Fat-Adam If you have an enlarged fatty liver, many times pre-surgery, it is advised to go on a "milk diet" because it shrinks the liver and makes access to the stomach possible and much safer. it is also recommended to eat less in the weeks pre-surgery to shrink the size of your stomach and get in a routine of not eating large quantities. Post surgery, any drinks maybe a balanced blend of vitamins and protein, but that would likely be only IF you have problems getting enough protein and are not properly taking vitamin supplements or need more . I know a few people who have had bariatric surgery. It was not easy for any of them. One friend has had nothing but problems with eating. Either she cannot keep food down or has developed "dumping syndrome" where the food passes too fast through the small intestine and causes the obvious problems along with sweating, nausea, and pain. She has developed problems with nutrition and vitamin/mineral deficiencies that have created a whole sub-set of problems. Another friend had the surgery, but never altered her physical regime and has lost little weight and also no longer enjoys food because she is very limited in what she can actually properly digest-this is 4 yrs later and she can eat eggs, cheese, yogurt and oatmeal and not much else. I would honestly suggest looking to non surgical methods-a sustainable diet that you can live with-something like Weight Watchers (you can find enough info and recipes for free and not spend a dime-unless you want the support that a meeting can offer). Good luck!
Finally someone who does this "right". Everybody else who uses the miracle berry eats things like sour cream and cottage cheese thinking it will make it "better tasting". I'm like NO it makes SOUR food SWEET not food you don't like good!
It actually makes things like vegetables and fruits (things some people dont like eating) taste like candy that is why loads of people reccomend these for diets as it would just taste like your eating candy for all your meals
It does make sour cream taste like whipped cream. I think the biggest flavor shift is w/ foods that are acidic (which would incl. sour cream or buttermilk and obviously lemon or vinegar)
It does change the flavor though. I tried it with Greek yogurt like plain unsweetened Greek yogurt and it was very similar to sweetened vanilla Greek yogurt. So they're not doing it wrong. They're just not using it in a high contrast way the way you want them to use it. But it does work. Sour cream and cottage cheese while not as sour as lemons are tart in their own way and it does affect the flavor
If you break the banana by hand, instead of cut it, and separate it into it's natural 1/3 sections by hand, the outsides will keep their texture, it won't be nearly as slimy, and is easier to eat!
probably tho, the berry first tastes sour but immediately after that it tastes sweet, it's like they evolve this way to fool animals into thinking that their berries taste sweet to conserve sugar.
Literally the only thing I can say has nothing to do with the video, it's just that your voice is so friggin calming and it's like dang. Be gone anxiety!
+emmymadeinjapan you should eat another one and try an onion apparently it makes it easy to eat but I tried he berry pill once and it didn't change the taste lol was wondering if the pill isn't as effective as the actual fruit
Emmy you're incredible on so many levels. you're level of communication, honesty and beauty are unbeatable. the natural way that you look and talk are amazing. love your videos.
DILL pickles aren't very salty, they're just sour. And why would you know? Have you tried them? I have. The packaging CLEARLY STATES "temporarily makes sour and bitter foods taste sweet".

Once you've peeled your grapefruit you can slice right on the spots where the fruit adheres to the white membrane. Do that on both sides of the chunk, slice comes out easy, proceed to the next chunk. I hate the taste/texture of the membrane so that's what I always do.
I'm always learning things with you, Emmy. Thank you so much for sharing your tasting adventures with us and being such a wonderful teacher and person. :)
We have trees of miracle berries here where we live and it's a nice conversation starter when ever we have visitors. We hand them a berry and a kalamansi (a little sour fruit similar to lime) and they will always be amazed. I hope you planted the seeds emmy it grows really easily.
Since you have all those miracle berries, why don't you do a video on tasting foods that aren't your favorite!!!!!! AKA: SALTY LICORICE (and among other things).
Aww, you´re so sweet, Emmy. You don´t like eating banana because of the slimy texture, but you like natto. I totally understand that, but it´s funny. ^.~ I just noticed that you are just 80 subscribers away from 500.000! Yay, that is so exciting! You earn each and very one of us, and I wish you 500.000 more. :)
Thank you so much for reviewing the 'miracle' berry. I'm a diabetic myself and can't have a lot of sugary fruit and such; having to feast on a lemon without the sourness would be amazing because it would taste like an orange instead! Thank you once again, Emmy. :-)
We just did this tonight! Omg! Lemon juice, pickles, green unripened kumquat and strawberry from the garden, balsamic vinegar, strong coffee and some onion.
I would imagine she just doesn't like the combination of the flavor and the chew/slime. I've never had natto, but I imagine it tastes nothing like a banana. Bananas have an odd texture where they're either mushy or you have to break them up with your teeth and it's never the same. I know this is an old comment, but I also think of this whenever Emmy says she doesn't like the texture of bananas. I don't like slimy food. I don't particularly like fresh bananas, either. But I love dried bananas. I think we can overlook some unpleasant things as long as there's something to make up for it. Natto is a complex taste, right? Bananas really aren't. So. They're just kinda mushy and slimey and sweet. I can totally see a reason to find their texture off putting lol
As someone who's going through treatment for breast cancer, this is something I would absolutely LOVE to try! And, since seeing your video, I can't find them anywhere! I wish something like this was easily available to me; I can see where this would help me eat, make different food more palatable. Thanks for the information! Much love, Shelbie =) 💋BeautyDaughtMom
Emmy, the reason for you tasting sweet in your throat is that taste buds are not only located on your tongue, but also in your pharynx, some on the epiglottis and on the hard and soft palate too. They are more rare which are not on the tongue, I guess you feel the tastes in your throat more intense because of the berry, which must be amazing! :D Great vid, I did learn something today :)
Did you eat a miracle berry before you tasted each one of these, or did eating just one last long enough to alter the taste of all the things you tried in this video?
Hi Emmy!! I'm a huge fan of your videos! Upon watching this video I bought the miracle fruit tablets and tried it with my boyfriend. It actually works and it is amazing. We are currently trying everything edible in the house and having so much fun!! Thank you for making all your amazing videos :3
You have taste buds on your tongue all over your mouth and in your throat. Also your nose has a lot to play in tastes. My mom recently had her entire tongue removed because of cancer and she is still able to taste things.
Potato Pepe the replaced her tongue with skin and muscle from her leg and she is able to speak very limitedly she has a trach tube to breathe out of and she has a special cap to put in the trach to speak. She has a feeding tube in her stomach. She isn't able to eat yet as the surgery happened last month but in her therapies they give her flavored ice chips and she is capable of tasting those, who knows how much more though. Everyday is better than the last.
OMG, my biological mother named me Myracle-Marie, but when I was adopted at 5 months old, I was named Aliyah. According to my uncle, my name means "miracle" in Hebrew, but I've Googled it and it says my name means "Islamic religious pilgrimage or sacrifice." I've never met a Myracle before! So cool!
Am loving these videos! Also, you know how you talked about feeling the sweetness somewhere in your throat? It's true! There are taste receptors on more than just your tongue. One area is the epiglottis, or the flap that covers your windpipe when you swallow. So cool that it affected those as well! Keep making more videos! :D
Visiting the country of my parents origin decades ago, I found that in that area people commonly made a rose hip concentrate by cooking them down. Then bottling the concentrate to use as a awesome drink just by adding cold water to taste, I think it was sweetened also. Those berries remind of that
I can really recommend trying these out! Sour lemons or grapefruits suddenly taste like they have been sweetened with a ton of sugar, it's amazing how the enzyme in the berries ("miraculin") changes the perception of taste. I bought them as small pills (that are basically just the freeze-dried berries)
It's so interesting that banana is the texture Emmy gets hung up on - she is the most fearless taster I watch and she's braved slimy stuff like natto beans, balut, dried beetles... It's fun that she hits the wall on such a normal thing!
We actually ate these for one of our class as a study. It was wild because it literally made lemons and limes taste like candy, they were so sweet. Like really good slightly sour candy. And we were warned that even though it doesn't taste sour, it still has the acidic properties. So don't go crazy eating sour things cause they'll still hurt you, you just won't be able to feel it.
Emmy my mom said she wants to try it, and some of my uncles have diabetes and this fruit would be great for them. Thank you for showing me this. It will probably help me lose the wight that I want to lose.
I'm fascinated by these fruits. There was a scientist who tried to market these as a sugar substitute in the 70s, but someone stole all his research and destroyed his business. It's a crazy story.
I've had the mberry tablets for a couple of years now and finally decided to try it. I agree with Emmy, the strawberries were the best of all the different foods I tasted. I just happened to have fresh picked super ripe ones too. Soooo good!
Some of us ordered the miracle fruit tablets and had a tasting party. We all ate whole lemons and limes because they tasted so good! My favorite thing we had was cactus juice.
I remember my first miracle fruit (didn't know that it was called miracle fruit). Twas given by a mango vendor. She told me to eat the fruit before eating the mango. Note that the mango is super sour.. After finishing the mango, which i really enjoyed because it turned suuuuper sweet, i ate hot chili peppers and they tasted like berries. YUM 😋
This fruit actually helps me with my blood sugar (I have type one diabetes) it balances it and just helps. My sisters diabetes is horrible it is never normal it’s always high or low and this miracle berry helps so much so I’m happy they exist! Lol
tried the tablets at a friend's party once. the night ended with all of us raiding our friend's refrigerator and sitting in a circle drunkenly pouring straight lemon juice into our mouths and eating whatever we could find. it was...surreal.

True O.O
Hate SLS:-(
yooo i thought that happened because the toothpaste is minty ,mind blown atm
I'm pretty sure its something in the mint flavor, because I have a cinnamon toothpaste that froths up and it doesnt make orange juice bitter.
That's why I can't eat or drink right after brushing my thooth

I'm pretty sure they are less than 20$ >.>
Visiting the country of my parents origin decades ago, I found that in that area people commonly made a rose hip concentrate by cooking them down. Then bottling the concentrate to use as a awesome drink just by adding cold water to taste, I think it was sweetened also. Those berries remind of that
Shoudl've tasted black licorice
Nordic salted licorice!
+Erin Trinh i don't even know if that would change the taste of that. it would have to turn into a different candy
+WhiltiernaAria Djungelvrål is the worst thing I've tasted. And I like black licorice xD
RageDjooo LOL!
RageDjooo Djungelvrål is SO good! I suck on them until all the salt is gone and then I start chewing.
Absolutely delightful and fully informative!
If you do this again you should bite into a lemon! I've seen other people do it and it's sooo trippy!!
+Mikala VanDeventer Watch the very end of the video. :)
Have you tried durian yet?
Your reactions to the foods are priceless
Oh, try licorice with these fruit 😈
Ahhh! I'm getting excited with you while you're trying this!! I want to try it!
Itadakimasu
I love the Warhead, the strawberries, and the grape fruit that u ate a its so good!!!
I've been watching more and more of your videos and your soothing voice may be the reason why. :) Love from Philippines
People "you're supposed to leave a like at the end ". Me " but it's Emmy! " I always like her videos, duh.
All of emmy's videos are always calming....
I get so excited when I find an Emmy video that I haven't seen!
It's so interesting that banana is the texture Emmy gets hung up on - she is the most fearless taster I watch and she's braved slimy stuff like natto beans, balut, dried beetles... It's fun that she hits the wall on such a normal thing!
Emmy you can seriously be a voice action 😆 your voice is so soothing!
My mouth started watering when she was talking about the warhead candy
Yesssss so glad you made this! I've only had the tablet version, though…
Sour cream tastes like ice cream. Goat cheese is really good to try. Pineapple is amazing. Vodka tastes like sugar water. Those are some of my favs.
I haven't watched you videos in FOREVER!!
I've had the mberry tablets for a couple of years now and finally decided to try it. I agree with Emmy, the strawberries were the best of all the different foods I tasted. I just happened to have fresh picked super ripe ones too. Soooo good!
I always have the tablets around during strawberry season!! I'll sit and eat a giant bowl of strawberries. Delicious.
Omg I these berries paired with lemon is amazing. It actually taste like sweet lemonade!
Hahahhaha Emmy i love ur endings!! Don’t ever stop doing them!!😂😂
i've never seen emmy take so many bites of the the things shes sampling! lol i gotta find me some of these miracle berries!
your videos make me so happy! haha I love your reactions! I wanna try this!!
Lol
