Now you are in my favorite food and drinks destination (be sure to try Dunjevaca - quince brandy)... But watch out in Serbia you will get fattened ;)

We'd have to agree with you. The food in Belgrade was some of our favorite too! We'll have to check out Dunjevaca. Thanks for the recommendation!

The Karađorđeva šnicla is also called "woman's delight". Guess why!
You should ask for "gotova jela", pronounced "yela". That is precooked slow food, and are more genuine national dishes than what's prepared on the grill.
Probably my favourite is tripe, especially calf's head with tripe, "teleća glava u škembetu". It might sound a bit repulsive but the tripe has a texture that resembles al dente pasta and is usually served in a clay pot together with the meat of the head, that has been simmering for about 7 hours, in a thick and extremely tasty sauce. Think cow's cheeks, not stranger than that and that is served in Michelin restaurants. If you can, I strongly advise you to order it once and decide for yourself. The worst that can happen is that you don't like it, or you might love it as I do. You already have an experience of Serbian food quality, trust me on this one.

Thanks for your recommendation. We've never tried tripe before. We had the best time in Belgrade trying Serbian foods.

Well to be fair the cheese is different to ones you know and there are many varieties of the stuffed "pastry" you had, Cevapicci are heaven, Cordon bleu is served like this in most countries of Eastern Europe (I often see this rolled version also in other countries like USA, Japan...; in Germany and France it is often the "filled cutlet/Schnitzel") variety.

Thanks for taking the time to comment and give us more info about the foods we tried. We really appreciate it! We loved everything we tried in Belgrade! I think my favorite would have to be kajmak. I wasn't sure if it is considered cheese or cream, but it is delicious! Yes, we definitely need to try different varieties of the Burek.

...in Serbia, brandy(rakija) is drunk as an aperitif, to encourage the desire to eat.
Serbs do not drink brandy after a mea.😊l

It is funny how tourists fall for so called traditional food and drinks .... and go to cheap places with popular and street food and drinks which are often far from good quality ones.
You don't sample rakia drinking so much - you will just get drunk, not much more than that.
Not so long ago I would never have dreamed of Karadjordjeva snitzel becoming a traditional dish. With lemon and mayo - no way it could be traditional. It was first made for Yugoslav president Tito after the French Cordon bleau 50 or so years ago.
