I am Hungarian and I live in Budapest. I am glad that I found a video in which foreigners really eat Hungarian food. There are many restaurants that are designed more for foreigners and not so for hungarian food. :)
Fully agree. As a Scot married to a Hungarian who's spent a lot of time in your beautiful country, it's great to see some authenticity with just the loveliest old school food.. For me, lángos. That's the one. That and bean goulasch over a wood fire (apologies for the spelling), and the Paprika chicken. And, and and...
Just as little add on to really iconic Hungarian foods, there is a particular version of "lángos" which is so unique and specific, that not very much people know that it exists. It is called "Parasztlángos" (Peasant fire-bread) or "Kemencse lángos" - it is sort of pizza like food best served with pieces of "kolbász", sliced onion, garlic and greaves and came in two forms - squared in a baking tray or made in outdoor furnace just like any traditional pizza. It is also called - Langallo (Hungarian Pizza) and it is dope. As a second very traditional Hungarian dishes not mentioned - "Halászlé" - and it is a fish soup and it really varies by the region where it was cooked. It came in many forms. From traditional soup like form more sparse with bigger pieces of fish meat up to very densely creamy sauce like form, which is made from very finely mixed fish meat slowly cooked to acquire the necessary density. And when done right it is sheer goodness. And for red wines I really recommend the one particular from Eger region called "Egri Bikavér" (Bull blood from Eger), by my opinion as a person who really not like wine the best red wine ever.
Thank you so much for sharing. I took a day trip from Budapest to Eger and tried the wine you mentioned. You are right. It was excellent. Here’s the link to the video of the trip if you’re interested. ruclips.net/video/ub_rhhk6tWs/видео.html
The "Halászlé" is typically made with carp--more specifically, mirror carp ( tükörponty ). One of the best and most well known kind of halászlé is from the town of Baja ( Bajai halászlé ). It's not a thick soup and it is served with noodles. The fish is usually not in the soup bowl when it is served, but on separate plate. The authentic version is cooked in a cauldron over fire. Many people enjoy this soup with very spicy cherry peppers. Families pass down the "secret" of making their version of the soup from generation to generation.
Good thing I'm eating while watching your videos! Everything looks so goooood and yummy!! 😂 Thanks for the informative video. I can't wait to visit Budapest!

Chicken paprika is so yummy! It is Ali's favorite dish in Hungary also. We're so glad you liked the food tour. Thanks for taking the time to leave us a comment. We really appreciate it.
When I was child and went on summer holidays to Budapest the food you called Langos never came with toppings like a Pizza they just rubbed garlic on it, and the market Hall did not look like it does today looked more like Victoria Market here in Melbourne lol in saying this love our Market here
Hi! The langos came with so many options for toppings. I’m sure the original way with just garlic would be so good too. I love visiting markets in different cities. This one in Budapest was really nice because locals and tourists were shopping there.
I really liked your videos, you are so cute! What else I recommend, go to a traditional restaurant the next time you visit and try our vegetables. Unfortunately, there is no proper English term for "vegetable stews", with which we usually eat some meat topping. For example, meatloaf, stew, also fried eggs, etc... and many of us also eat bread. My favorite is the spinach stew, and my other favorite is the tomato cabbage stew with meatloaf.
Aww! Thank you so much. I really like Budapest, so I definitely plan to go back. When I do go back, I’ll be sure to try spinach stew and tomato cabbage stew. Sounds yummy! Thanks for the recommendations. 😀
@@OneWayTicketAliHolly And it is cottage cheese. I enjoyed your enthusiastic video about our country. I started going to Szimpla Kert when it's opened, which was a while back, great place, then it had local prices not like now, bloody tourists 😂

Pálinka comes from 40% alcohol to even more than 70%, so it burns differently. Pálinka means its made of purely fruits, but depending on how much you reduce it, the alcohol can differ. The most popular ones are between 44-52%, so it burns about as much as a vodka, but with fruit aftertaste.
