My wife hates rakija, she always asks me how can I drink it. For example, since making of rakija starts every year at the beggining of autumn, and cause rakija is made from all kinds of fruits that are rotten ( the mash that you get from rotten fruit is called " komina " ) here where we live, the whole neighbourhood smells on komina. She always complains that komina stinks, and actually it does, it has that sharp, sour rotting smell, but for me it's beautiful and I can smell it all day. Here in Serbia, where I live, I think every second house has it's own rakija destillery machine, we have one also. Once you try rakija for the first time, either you love it or you hate it, there's no in between, it's all black and white.

We were going to move to El Salvador but last weekends gang shootings 62 dead changed everything for us. We’ve now decided to move back to Serbia instead as it’s changed so much. Can’t believe how many westerners are coming moving living or travelling to Serbia and blown away by their incredibly positive perceptions of our country. I’m blown away it’s been in front of our eyes this whole time but never considered actually going back until our human rights started being taken away here in Australia. The time has come thank you so much for this amazing video. Dolazimo Majko Srbijo!
I am on border between Serbia and Croatia. We have similar food on both sides of the border and its absolutely amazing. I would recommend you to try Cooked beans with sausages or ribs, Fish paprikash, Goulash, Cobanac (Shepard's stew) Leskovacki voz (Leskovac train) Sarma, Knedle sa slivama etc.
Dude! Go to "Sac" in Zemun, and try "Teletina i Jagnjetina ispod saca" The restaurant is where the old Sinagouge was, now they make meat under the sach there! :)
Great video , thank you for showing atlest some part how beautiful and fun Serbia can be...so happy to see that outsiders love our country, our food and culture. Alot of Serbian people dont appreciate what they have and how beautiful it is until they go to some other Country... ceep it up, have fun and wish you all the best... 🥰💖
Ye they have awesome food and everything oh and Кафица и Ракица is where you drink soda and beer they have TV and WiFi I go there with mine dad sometimes
The food is good but it’s a classic restaurant offering and that’s ok. There is also traditional cuisine, a method of preparation that is characteristic of ancient times when people did not have the money and time for such a rich table as today. I clearly doubt that our ancestors ate "Karadjordj's steak" every day. Once upon a time, people ate uštipci, domaću pogaču, kajmak, pršutu, proju, kuvana čorbasta jela... ask your serbian friend to explain it better to you :)
Actually, Karađorđe's steak was only invented in the 1950s by a hotel chef. But it IS meant to imitate the traditional (Ottoman-influenced) Balkan cuisine. Alas, there is no authentic Serbian cuisine, just as most countries in the world don't have their own cuisine but mixtures and adaptations of surrounding traditions. However, Serbia and the Balkans adopted the Middle Eastern way of cooking (via the Ottomans) and perfected it so much that in many ways it surpasses the original. PS: Kudos to Dušan, and to you for finding a local guide. Most other vloggers don't think of it.
@@dragandraganic How is your mom's kupus sa slaninom and domaca pogaca not authentic Serbian cuisine? Do you think you'll find that in Turkey? Yes, influences from all over, from the Ottomans, and from the Arabs via the Ottomans, and also from Hungary and so on, but the resulting mix of influences coupled with the local inventions is authentic Serbian cuisine and you would recognise it anywhere.
@@austenhead5303 According to experts, there are only about a dozen authentic cuisines in the world, four of which are in today's China. 90% of all places in the world only have slightly modified versions of those 10-12 cuisines. By the way, there is no authentic Hungarian cuisine either, and they too foolishly believe s(z)arma to be a dish they invented. All their "most authentic" dishes, just like ours, use the Ottoman-style ground red pepper. PS: There is no Ottoman cuisine either - there's the Middle Eastern cuisine, which the Ottomans brought to the Balkans. PPS: My mother never made those two dishes you mention. But she made cherry sauce regularly, to be eaten with steak. I'm from way up north - am I less of a Serb because I live in a region where the traditional dishes are different from the ones you'd call "Serbian"? PPPS: For "kupus sa slaninom" google "Sauerkraut mit Speck".
@@Travelwithchris Yeap. Some people have Biblical names, or foreign names, but all originally Serbian names have meanings. "Gvozden" is Iron Man, and "Vid" is Vision :D We also have Dawn (Zora), Radomir (the one who would gladly have peace), Dobrila (good one), Lepa (pretty one), Božidar (God's gift), Slobodan (free man), Dragan (dear one) etc. :)

If all people from America were like this, I believe that everything would be better, now you see why everyone who comes to Serbia once and visits something, comes back again, people are mostly very good and in a good mood, it depends on the city, but you are a very good man, interesting and after one clip I really liked to watch and follow you, this is 1% of what is in Serbia and nowhere else in the world, enjoy you have much more see, all the best and just keep going ❤️🔥
Thank you so much Kiki! I really appreciate that! Have a great week!

I've got several friends around Belgrade but not sure if they will be free most of the time so the more the merrier! I hope to be there by May.

There is always a good reason to drink rakija.

All of that sounds amazing! Thanks for sharing!
Dude! Go to "Sac" in Zemun, and try "Teletina i Jagnjetina ispod saca" The restaurant is where the old Sinagouge was, now they make meat under the sach there! :)
I'll definitely go visit that spot! SOunds incredible ! Thanks for the recommendation !

Wow, from Guam and that looks delicious. Thank you for sharing.
Thank you so much! Hope to visit your country one day!
Listići...
I always learn so much from your comments! Thanks bro, I will definitely be trying many types of food!
I open video, I click like, and then I watch the video. The food looked amazing!
When i saw the quantity of Rakija i know directly they will have a good time HAHAHAH

Did Dušan tell you that Serbian names mostly have meanings? His name means something like "soul man" (duša = soul)
Wow I didn't know that!
@@Travelwithchris
Yeap. Some people have Biblical names, or foreign names, but all originally Serbian names have meanings. "Gvozden" is Iron Man, and "Vid" is Vision :D
We also have Dawn (Zora), Radomir (the one who would gladly have peace), Dobrila (good one), Lepa (pretty one), Božidar (God's gift), Slobodan (free man), Dragan (dear one) etc. :)

Hope you do a video on online troves of cheap apartment listings in Belgrade. My budget is around $350 per month but I noticed that listings around that amount on AirBnB go fast. Where can I find listings in English for cheap studio apartments in Belgrade?

Dude. Link to the restaurant, please. GPS coordinates. Will go when I arrive in Belgrade. Thanks.
its called Cenovnik on Skardarlija street!
@@Travelwithchris Wrong dude, it's called Skadarlijska noć (Skadarlija's night). Cenovnik is just a Serbian word for pricelist. This restaurant is located close to the bottom of Skadarlija street, at the right side of the street, it's so easy to find it. Cheers, welcome to Belgrade!

The shopska salata (шопска салата) comes actually from Bulgaria. We have one kind of a region, which we call "the shops" .In Bulgaria we also drink the rakija :DD. We share some foods and drinks, so far I can see.
You guys invented it, but we liked it so much we made it an obligatory menu item throughout old Yugoslavia. Thanks for the recipe!
Out of curiosity, is it served in every restaurant in Bulgaria as well?
6:05 Dusan forgot one important thing. At the table, oldest person take the food first. :)
I couldn't agree more! The best food in Belgrade is found outside of the city center! Take it from me who have lived in Belgrade for over 6 months :D
