Serbia has the best kajmak .... greetings from Macedonia 🇲🇰
You have the best lamb and tomatos tho! Greetings back from Serbia braco naša!
It is the same kajmak and paprika, like in Macedonia. But, paprika in Macedonia is the best on the world! ❤️
U have the best ajvar and paprike
you have the best lamb brothers braćoo
I've just watched all 6 videos so far and I'm primarily impressed how good research you've done about places you have visited, including history, pronunciation and so on... Really enjoyed watching this and looking forward for new ones.
Hey! Thanks! This means a lot to us! Hope you follow our journey 😍
As a Sebian who lives in Belgrade i find your way of saying names of our dishes soo cute 😁😁🔝🔝 btw u can not find kajmak abroad... serbs living outside the state are always bringing it with themselves from here 🤣🤣
Ahahahaha thanks so much! Man Kajmak is the best!
@@dabbleandtravel haahahah so glad you loved it :D
Plenty of Kajmak here in Vancouver!

Food looks amazing. Sometimes it a shame that great cuisines such as this are relatively unknown beyond their borders.
True! Thanks for watching!
Welcome to Serbian my dear, wish all the best 🍻🍻🍻
She said Karadjordjeva Snicla pretty much perfectly :)
Thank you 🙏🏻🙏🏻
Smooth rakija ..at the beggining I liked her but man You can adopt qiuckly with serbian:)
What I like about your videos is you being so positive and just enjoying every day. I am originally from the area, a bit north of Belgrade, but majority of my life a spent living close to where you are from. I see you visited some other Balkan countries, I know there is a lot to complain about as a tourist in Balkans, but you never complain, just looking for the joy and that's what I like about you. Enjoy and have fun!
Thanks so much, that’s really kind of you!
Cant wait to come back to Belgrade and visit those restorants and try best food in the world 🇷🇸🇷🇸🇷🇸😊
Our food always served in big portion. We eat a lot of meat and caloric foods but we have not problem with obesity because we always go for walk without reasons,we buzz aronund the city in our free time.We have a coffe or drink beers with friends every day.By the way:Great videos, i saw all of them!
We also eat a lot of bread. Bread is a must with every Serbian meal.
@@danicadabic9789 👍
Don't forget the fact that the food just is of much better quality. I always lose weight when I'm in Serbia but I eat more and are not more active than usual. Obesity in some western countries isn't only the fault of the consumers. You can even see people from Serbia get a lot fatter when they move to some western countries without much change in their lifestyle.
@@12123188 Yes I agree.I think food in Serbia is more GMO free than food in Western countries, but staying fact Serbs go for walk more often and longer than people in Western countries.I have been in North America and I saw their food, their habits, generaly their way of life and it is total opposite in compare to Serbia!
OMG that food looked amazing, especially what you were eating Matt, just loved it x
Thanks for watching!
@@dabbleandtravel I am learning more from your videos than i did at school lol x
What a beautiful little city, and the food definitely looks yummy❤️😍😋🙏
Go to the interior of Serbia. Lot's to see, and even better foods. There is also an option of village tourism, where you essentially stay in a village household, with all home made foods.
Thanks!
I am chef and I can tell you real Karađorđeva šnicla is stuffed only with kajmak. All other variations aren't Karađorđeva. I worked with a chef who actually invented this dish, profesor Mića Stojanović.

super cool videos
Thank you for this Video hvala 👍👏👏🙏🇷🇸
Kajmak is prepared when you boil milk and let it cool down, on top you get that thin layer, then you scoop it up and put it in some dish. So you need to do this for several days with new milk (usually freshly milked). There is "young kajmak" if you decide to eat it immediately and it's mild, and there is "old kajmak" which is matured and with stronger taste.
If you're doing it over several days, don't do it from the same milk. Do it from the daily milk that you milk from the animals. Just a necessary caveat. XD
Belgrade has a lot of good food😋😋😋😋take care guys💕
Sure does! Thanks for watching!

Hey guys! Lovely channel!
And you both have done your homework rather nicely, in both pronunciation and conceptualization of the language.
I think this might've went under the premise of the video, since you've done it so smoothly that I wonder how many tries it actually took for you to learn it the correct way...
So, to sum it up in a way >>> The Serbian way is to relax and enjoy life, being carefree and enjoying the music. We say "Udri brigu na veselje". This motto remains true even in the worst of situations, and we had a fair share of those.
This is why we tend to really enjoy food and gastronomy in general, and would never give it up for anything else in the world. You might say that we tend to be similar to italians when it comes to the food. Just as easily annoyed when stuff isn't made properly.
When we've a chance to show you our food or dishes, it makes us happy when you experience happiness. There's rarely a feeling that can beat that.
Serbian cuisine is somewhat special since it is not really known in the world, yet it is severely intricate and delicious that you'd have to wonder how it is not as famous as the French or Italian ones, right?
Etymologically speaking, drawbacks happened which reflect the harsh truth depicting constant wars in the past thousand years or so, barely giving Serbian people enough time to catch a breath and actually promote our enormously rich cuisine. Such drawbacks also affected the spread of the culture itself, be it geographically or linguistically. It had to go via proxy countries, and it shows.
So, I wanted to write to you a bit about the Paprika.
What's the deal? Well, this is the most commonly used Serbian phrase worldwide, which got famous thanks to the Hungarians. In this particular case Hungarians worked as a proxy country and many books will depict Paprika as a hungarian phrase, even though the suffix "-ika" is purely slavic in origin.
Serbia was occupied and enslaved at the time by Ottoman empire and didn't really have much power at the time. Another Serbian phrase you'd commonly found being spoken worldwide would be Vampir thanks to the case of Petar Blagojevic.
So, when you say "Pepper", we actually say "Paprika" without thinking about it as a spice. Rather, for us "Paprika" is an entire plant, be it a regular red pepper, chili pepper, bell pepper (Babura) etc.
Paprika is a feminine name for the pepper, deriving from the phrase Papar (meaning- "Hot" or "Spicy") which in turn originated in Hellas (Hellenic, ancient Greece). Papar in turn is a name used for black pepper, and the whirl of convolutedness can give anyone a headache.
However, Paprika was bought to the Balkans thanks to the Ottoman empire, and started spreading from the Kosovo region since 1400s slowly building up to the Hungarian region up to 1500s. Paprika was a staple food for a full century before it got introduced to the Hungarians thanks to one of the Turkish Janissary of Serbian ethnicity who visited a hungarian dutchess of sort (or some other royalty) and giving her this exotic plant for the sake of decor.
Since the Serbian region was heavily occupied under slavery of the Ottoman Empire, this gave enough freedom to the Hungarians to spread this fantastic plant to the rest of the Europe and promote its health benefits. It is here that some form of mistranslation came to be known since Paprika was referred to as a spice, rather than an entire plant.
The so called Ajvar is known as the Red Caviar ([C]Aviar/Ajvar) that got famous around the time when Danube was used heavily to farm Caviar. Ajvar was the staple food for the poor folk, and an act of rebellion and mockery of the rich and famous who ate Caviar.
I hope this helps clear some things and help you out on your journey of discovering the gem known as Serbian cuisine.
Stay safe in your travels and godspeed to both of you.
Wow! Thank you so much, we appreciate helping us learn more!
Hope you are well!
I’ve seen all the videos too. The Best 😘✌️

@@frostflower5555 true! When I host some friends from Bavaria this is the first what they notice and RAKIJA... 🥃🥃🥃
Not sure if someone commented this yet, but Kajmak iz actually easy to make. You take regular milk when you've milked the cow, or goat, or what ever animal you have and just boil the milk then let it sit. The skin that forms on top is Kajmak, you collect the skin off the top and you can add a very tiny bit of salt, but it really doesn't need it. Leave it in the fridge for a day for extra flavor, or just eat it as is.
You like the peppers because they are thick-walled variety grown in the summer, not the Dutch greenhouse peppers grown to look nice in the supermarket. Peppers need sun and warmth, and are superiors when grown in the Balkans or Spain.
They are amazing! Thanks for watching!
Like how positive you are in your videos, carry on :)

thanks for your video im planning to go to belgrade this month this video very helpfull👍🏻
Enjoy!
Kajmak is made by boiling "raw"/unskimmed milk then let it cool down. The fat from milk will create a crust that you separate from milk and let in ferment for a few days, with added salt, and it is battered?/mixed to get consistency. But using unskimmed milk is the key. I grew up in smal town and we bought milk from local dairy farmers few houses down. After boiling the milk mother would skim the milk and batter it, sometimes with salt but sometimes with suger for imidiate use that or next day. I am sure you can find exact recipe online.
Legend has it Matt never stopped knocking the Rakia shots back 😂....great video guys!!
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 thanks for watching!
Just seen like 4 vids in one sitting and loving ur way of showing serbia and belgrade. To fullyemerge with serbia u need someone from serbia to lets say represent it and explain it. Cuz our way of life is something u cant translate on english language. Its a lot different than europes way. Its too bad that is covid time and not fully opened . Our night life is maybe the best in europe, maybe after moscow.

If you guys ever wanna buy Serbian/Balkan food in the UK, we’ve got a few in London, like around Acton area. Main ones are like Magaza, Mugi, Vardar. There’s also a few nice cafes/restaurants if you ever fancy it, like “cafe kod pirketa”, “Fulham Kitchen” - which is where the Serbian footballers who play in the Prem sometimes go, like Mitrovic, Matic, Milivojevic…
Cheers from London,
Thanks for visiting Serbia🙏🏼
Thanks for the recommendations, we'll have to try it when we're back in the UK
Watching you is so fun and cozy))
Thank you!
ogledneli od rakije sve im se dopalo 😂
loved this video, I know I am years late haha
Well actually it's neither the chips or French fries we say pomfrit, as French call them
Ahah! We call it the English or American version
@Binsr I didn't want to lecture them I was just refering to 10:30 when he was talking about fish and chips, I misunderstood that. Thought he is wondering how we actually call chips. So that's what I was saying, it's pomfrit here and of course they can call it as they want
For what I know is that every Balkan eats they're peppers with bread they basically dip it in the peppers and I'm just not a fan of peppers so idk what they taste like
The restaurant's name is "Zavičaj" / Завичај(Cyrillic letters) and it means 'homeland'!!! Greetings from a Serb guy living in Harlow UK !!! :)
We got there in the end!!! Thanks for watching!
Your pronunciation is so good
Thank you!!
19:25 we call them MAD MAX!!! :P
One thing about rakija is if you're iffy about the food you're gonna be eating, weather it is something unusual or just a gut feeling it won't be comfortable, a shot of rakija before and after the meal will clear that up!
Quick-storytime: My mother went to Egypt on vacation and she always took rakija before and after the meal, she was the only one who hadn't contracted the stomach virus in the whole hotel.
Karadjordjeva snicla was created by a Serbian chef Mića Stojanović. He was the personal chef of Josip Broz Tito. And Mića is still alive, owns a small restaurant called "Mićina Domaća Kuhinja" in Zemun municipality. So if you want to eat the original cooked by the guy who invented it you still can.
I am at Zavicaj right now, guys, on your recommendation. 😀
"Soviet cheese"... That's hilarious... :D

you people are amazing ......
Just one notice. As word "dictator" is used in a negative way, Thatcher was more "dicatator" than Tito.
Really love the way you talk about food. For the kajmak go to north london Turkish food center they have it there, green lanes

"Kajmak" is to be found in "Magaza", a Bosnian-owned shop in Uxbridge Road, London and in some Turkish-owned shops.
Thank you!
Kajmak is a Serbian specialty. There is aged and young kajmak. The aged one has a special taste-and the only cheese that has some resemblance to it is creamy blue cheese.
@7:31 - 7:37 ?!??
I am from Serbia and I heard it first time in my life (translation of Karadjordjeva Snicla"). I would say it was someone's BAD sense of humor (who told you that). Karadjordje or Crni Djordje (Black George translation from Turkish Kara - Black) Djordje - George was Historical figure in Serbian History. He lead First Serbian uprising against Ottoman ruler from 1804 until 1813 when was crushed. So that dish was named in honer of Serbian rebel leader.
EDIT:
Monument of Karadjordje is close to Sent Sava Temple (with Turkish sword pointing down). But his name is written in Cyrillic alphabet. About street stone blocks material that is in Skadarlija Street is called "Kaldrma" and it is original stones from Ottoman times. :)
@Binsr
Yes. Correct.
Just to let you know guys,Kajmak is not "a kind of a cheese" it's a pure milk fat :D enjoy your stay :)
Thanks for watching!

Kajmak is wery easy to make yourself you just bolil milk and when it is cooled you skup kajmak from the top it is as simple as that
If you guys want to compare and to explain what 'kaymak"(that Serbian cheese) is, go like this:
"What is butter for margarine, that is kaymak for butter"
True! Thanks!
When you get back to the UK, there is a shop that sells Balkan products. It's called Magaza. Here's the link (there's kajmak there :) ) www.magazaonline.co.uk/
OMG! Game changer!!! Thanks for letting us know!
Thumbs up for drinking rakija like water.
🤣🤣🤣
That rakia in Skadarlia is guaranteed a very good quality. And quality rakia is not cheap. The way you have it is actually sipping, not bottom up. Drunkards have their drinks in shots. :-) If Serbians nod, it may mean they do not understand what you are saying, or do not know how to say sth, so they avoid being unpleasant by not saying anything. Prebranac could be fantastic, it's prepared with lots of onion and without meat - basically it is the same thing as tavche-gravche in N.Macedonia.
Kajmak is supposed to be "clotted cream" in English.
Interesting! Thanks!
there is no word for kajmak in english
Baburash is Zavičaj, it's pronounced like Zavichay..
We got there in the end hehe!
