Oh amazing! It's like RUclips is listening to me, this came up in my recommended because my boyfriend and I are doing a road trip to Fruška Gora and Sremski Karlovci in a few days! 😍 Great to have a bit of a sneak peak before we go!
Fruška Gora is Serbian Atos. There are 16th medieval monasteries. Jazak, Hopovo, Krušedol ( some of Serbians kings were buried there), KOVILJ (Serbian Patriarchs home) are must see.
I live in ireland and have recently done my back garden. Still needs a decking and now I'm thinking a sač pit to make meals like "teletina ispod sača"... Hmm. Thanks for the video and inspiration
If you'd like to try vegetarian options, ask the restaurant staff for a fasting menu (posna jela). In Serbian Orthodox Christianity, fasts last for weeks in turn (plus Wednesdays and Fridays). In total religious people go practically vegan for about three months a year. There is quite an elaborate fasting cuisine in Serbia.
An excellent selection of drinks. Bermet began to be produced within 35 Fruska Gora medieval monasteries. It was served at the Viennese, Russian and English courts. Four bottles of Bermet with a sticker from Sremski Karlovci were also found on RMS Titanic. Cheers!
In Sremski Karlovci you can have some of the best wines in the world, even one that was served on Titanic ;) Check "Podrum vina Petrovic" (wine cellar Petrovic )
Well done you two! :) I'm from Serbia and I have to say that your videos about Serbia so far are really good, you've even shown me some things that I didn't know about Serbia. I actually grew up in this street, back when the part you were in was just meadows. there were cherry trees there which we would plunder. we had about 6-8 kids going in the same class at school all in one street. really appreciated the aerials :-))).
You should check out the local high school and its history. that is my high school. also: during the 1999. bombings this street was closed off to people who were not living there because a large amount of anti-airplane artillery was based in the hills you saw around Belilo. We knew the bombing were coming because it took the military weeks and weeks to set it all up before it started. the whole street was a very stressful place to be because our houses would be shaken by the artillery shooting at the planes, naturally we would also be scared that bombs intended for the artillery would hit us, but also because the airplanes would turn overhead, maneveuring around Novi Sad so there would be a LOT of noise. the first bomb to fall 1999. outside of Kosovo was between Novi Sad and Sremski Karlovci.
I looked at all your videos from Serbia and I must admit that you presented your trip very well! :D And you should visit also Novi Sad, Niš, there Is a lot to see in estern central and south Serbia also as Lepenski vir, Romuliana, Tara, Zlatibor,Kopaonik,Golubac fortres, Ramska fortres and many more!
Sač (Sach) is metalic or more traditionaly clay dish/pot/container with bottom and top halfs, but what makes it unique is that you are to embed the dish into the glowing embers, like barbeque without flame. You make the fire with larger chunks of wood or coal and let them turn into embers, but you make enough of them to encircle entire dish all around but top and bottom also. Since dish is closed, there is no evaporation so all the juices and seasoning remain and make meat and potato tender/soft. In this case meat is "cooked" together with potatoes and seasoning.
I would like to point you to just a few things. The food in Serbia is one of the last few safe havens in Europe regarding non-GMO food. The meat is equivalent to GMO veggies food from the UK maybe a little bit healthier than vegetables from the UK..Taste of veggies in Serbia is incomparable, it's like two dimensions. When you were in Serbia I presumed that a lot of veggies were out of season food, which means they were imported from Turkey, Albania, Spain or Holland. Regarding the fruits in the season, there is no match in the whole world, not just in Europe, the taste of fruits in Serbia is out of this dimension.
Hi Molly and Matt.I enjoyed watching this video.Such an awesome view of the local village from the Vila Prezident. The choice of the local food was really good.Ziveli.cheers have fun and awaiting the new video from Novisade. 😍😘😘😍
Hello from Canada !! I love your vids !! In case no one explained to you why such large potions of food are served in Serbia its because the rule of law there that they serve 400gm of meat vs 200gm in the western countries !! CHEERS !! May I suggest for your next trip Bajna Basta and restaurant VRELO...the sight seeing is just incredible !!
I would like to recommend you to visit a small town in Central Serbia called Oplenac (Topola) 80 km south of Belgrade where you can try excellent Serbian wines from the Serbian royal vineyard and visit the Church where members of the Serbian royal family are buried and see the largest mosaic of Venetian Murano glass in the world. The best rakija comes from that part of Serbia. I would also recommend you to visit the Golubac Fortress, which is unique in its appearance and is located 130 km east of Belgrade on the Danube River.
In Sremski Karlovac, there is one legend, there is one fountain that has 4 heads if anyone drinks from it they will come back here and get married there.
Sremski Karlovic use to be very important cultural center back in the day, it was place of higher learning, especially in 1800s, and even now it has important gymnasium that many attend. Obviously in modern times universities and higher education has moved to big cities like Belgrade and Novi Sad, but Sremski Karlovci has lot of historical value and it actually has fair share of tourism. It's also good weekend spot for people from Novi Sad because it's only like 15-20 minute drive.
Ooooh i am envious of all that good grub you lasses are chowing down ..it looks more than yummy and all that not from 5 * resto. Thanks for sharing!!! 🥂💯🥂🌟
You are a really great couple of decent and always very well informed people, that makes great videos! It's a real pleasure to watch you! Keep doing this great work 😘
One advice for you. I mean your videos about food are brilliant but you should explore historical destinations all the way Danube river. There was born first civilization in Europe called Vinca civilization. Start from Novi Sad and go all way to Bulgaria. You won't see any similar places anywhere in Europe. For example in Petrovaradin museum you can see tools that human used 100.000 years ago.
If you were come in summer, you could go to Sremski Karlovci's Island on the Danube, named Coh Chang,or Serbian Hawaii. The local people going there every sunny day, swim, enjoy in fishing, cooking. There is the most famous lunch ,,kotlić".In the night ,they are making parties. The most beaytifull enjoying is in here....❤
If you are still in NS then try Project 72. It's rated as the no 1 restaurant and is a fine dining restaurant for the price of McD in Western Europe. Their base stands on traditional ground but with a refined twist. It's the best quality per price ratio I have ever had anywhere in Europe. Last time I was in NS two years ago we ate there three evenings in a row.

Why? I need to understand psychopathology behind that, so please, indulge me :D

You made two mistakes: "Teletina ispod sača" is not beef but veal. And it's prepared "under the bell", not "in a clay pot". It still might be in a clay pot but the emphasis is on the lid, not the pot. A very large lid put over the meat and potato. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sa%C4%8D
And pljeskavica is crap compared to teletina ispod sača. Teletina ispod sača, if prepared well, is one of the ultimate meat dishes. There are very few meat dishes in the world which can match it with quality and taste.
If a restaurant has available hot teletina ispod sača at the moment only a lunatic would order pljeskavica. It's not available for the whole day or even many days in a week in many restaurants, or not at all.
Every winery has its own traditional recipe for bermet passen on over generations, which could be white or red, and it's a dessert wine. Pity you went to that ugly village when there are so many authentic salashes all around with outworldly food and specialties. You could have at least gone to Sremski Karlovci proper center and enjoy a very good meal at the restaurant there, I think it is called "Bermet". It never failed us.
