I'm moving to Serbia from Dallas Tx next month! Can't wait! I really want to go check out that grilled meat festival! I lived a few years in Munich during 83-87 and Yugoslavian food was the best restaurants in Germany. I was really disappoited returning in 2011 and there were no more Balkan style restaurants there. Maybe by now they have returned but I'm going to the source this time!
Something I really loved in Germany at these restaurants is that they also served amazing Spatzle with the Yugoslavian meat dishes. That is much better that fries, it really soaked up all the juices in the meat and there was usually a meat gravy too covering the Spatzle. Do any restaurants there serve Spatzle or something like it? Maybe rice could be a substitute.
@@Wolfsheim23 I believe that you can find dishes with spatzle only in some restaurants of Vojvodina, which serves hungarian specialeties - goulash, pörkölt, etc... For example Abraham restaurant on Palić lake.
@ I was talking about Yugoslavian food in Germany in the 80s.. the best restaurants.
You're very welcome in Serbia. I hope you'll have a good time.
@@DanijeI Yep I love it. I'm sick of French Fries with Everything though. There are other ways to serve potatoes and french fries is the most plain, dry, tasteless, and boring.
Just a little info: when Her majesty the queen and the late Duke visited Serbia(Yugoslavia at that time, Tito was their host), they were served Leskovacki roštilj. A special crew traveled to Belgrade along with the spices and secret ingredients. The late Duke was quite satisfied. He praised the crew, commenting about excellent paring of beer and bbq. Chears!!! Enjoy the stay!!! Thank you for being kind.
Finally, for someone to move outside of Belgrade and see that not all the best food in Belgrade.
Awful a truth!
Totally a truth!
Belgrade has some places that are on pair with the south with food, people move there and bring the secrets, too bad its so rare and very few people discover it visiting Belgrade, because they follow what others tell them and miss on the hidden jewels.
You must try "Leskovačka mućkalica", it's national specialty
You guys work hard! 😀 You post every day! Love your videos. I like that you are always well informed about the area you are visiting and present it well in your videos. That's very helpful to those not familiar with Serbia. You stand out among other vloggers.
Thank you so much!
@@dabbleandtravel I can confirm that as a local from Leskovac. Your presentation is exceptionally authentic, you're pretty well informed about the destinations you're travelling to. Thank you and keep up the good work!
I've been to Serbia multiple times and never had a bad meal.... never!
Bravo Leskovac city thanks you 😁😁😁🇷🇸💯
The best rakija is in Central Serbia, the region is called Sumadija. I personally think that is in the area called Gruza between the cities of Cacak and Kragujevac.
"Да ли се сећате када сте попили најгору ракију у животу? Сећам се. И, каква је била? Доббррааааа!!!"
U got it .
Don't miss the famous 'Leskovačka Mućkalica' (grilled steak with baked vegetables) it is phenomenal!
Next stop for you should be Tara national park...
Stay tuned!
@@dabbleandtravel Go on rafting Tara
@@dabbleandtravel Tara national park is in Serbia (most beautiful Serbian mountain), and rafting on Tara river is in Bosnia. At TNP you will probably eat at Kurta restourant if u stay at Kaludjerske bare or at Kacara restourant if u stay at Mitrovac. You must visit Vidikovac (or Banjska stena) at Mitrovac and that view is stunning. Also, you must try "Komplet lepinja" western Serbia speciality. There is a lot of places to C, Raca monastery from 13 th cent. and their treasury house, house on Drina river (at Bajina Basta entry), Gate of Podrinje....Cheers and good luck!!!
After the city of Nis, the capital of food and the best place for gourmets in the country, it is the turn of Leskovac where the barbecue is also excellent ... Congratulations 👏👏👏👏
Thanks for watching!
Nis is Albanian but Serbia took it.

You guys are awesome, absolutely love your videos! Thank you for visiting Leskovac and Serbia. Cheers.
Thank you!
You should try pecenje, it’s rosted/grilled piglet 😋
The best roasted piglet in Serbia, and perhaps, the WORLD is in THE city of Arandjelovac in a restaurant "Mali Hrast"
The have an unusual way of serving it, as the meat is boneless, but the taste is out of this world
Can agree more, pass by Mladenovac on your way to Belgrade
@@pathfinder2reality In Bukovik, to be more precise 🙂. And I absolutely agree, it's out of this world.
Yes, yes yes, the swedish guy has the point. One can HARDLY compare ANY minced meat dish with roasted piglet or lamb, done in balkan way! One first dig a small "grave" in soil and fills it with coal or is it wood, I forgot it, but anyway then burns it and wait till it gives a long lasting but rather mild heat. One then puts the whole pig or lamb horisontaly, spiked, which rests on rather short 2 vertical spikes, so that it's approx. halv meter above the heat. Then slowly, a couple of HOURS and with rotation and "painted" by salty water now and then, it roasts.
You have to try it, it's unbeatable.
Best rakija in the whole Balkan is in Šumadija ( shumadija ) region! Because they there have the best water on the planet!
You guys are so cute! keep doing a great job! Go to Zlatibor, Tara also Golubac Fortress , Uvac lake.. Also in Belgrade Ada Ciganlija, Avala and Skadarlija is fully renovated now. Belgrade is much greener now :) and things/life are slowly coming beck to normal..
Its fun watching you!
Leskovac was once known as Little Manchester, because of the textile industry. Back in the 19th century it had 13 textile factories, in the 1990s more than 10,000 people worked in the textile industry. you have to try a small or big train or a Leskovačka beater
Thanks for the info!
@@dabbleandtravel Always ask the drivers where to eat! If you see lories parked in front of, that is the place! Yous two are so sweet and dear, God bless you!
@Branislav
What happened to all the textile factories, are there any still in existence?
@@wakanda6547
The answer is all but simple.
The topic is very controversial, and I may get corrected or verbally abused for trying to explain it.
In broad strokes:
Before their crisis, these were structured and operating by a native Yugoslav economic model called Social Self-management, unique in the world. It was a socialist planned economy governed by the Communist Party of Yugoslavia, with institution of Social ownership, besides the State ownership. That was the SFRY economic system, while the political system was called Self-governing socialism. Social ownership was a non-marketable shared ownership by the employees, with the democratic principles of decision-making within the workers' councils of each enterprise, where any share-holder had vote, proportional in strength to their hold of shares.
It is hard for a layman like myself to understand this, even less to explain it in theory, and impossible to explain of how did it actually work in practice.
During the cold war, Yugoslavia was one of the leaders of the Non-aligned movement, which was taking a large chunk of the counties which were nor members nor aligned both with NATO's or the Warsaw Pact's policies. This was the primary Yugoslav export market, though it exported to the NATO and Warsaw Pact countries as well.
With the decline of the Warsaw Pact, SFRY and it's non-aligned market started loosing it's potential, USA started pressuring SFRY for the priorly taken loans, so these factories' produce, started loosing market value, while the country was still keeping the factories running for the social reasons, employing millions around SFRY. With the lose of the geopolitical weight, SFRY was also loosing access to the top production technologies.
In the late 80's it started to affect the large population, social unrests ensued along the ethnic lines, in the early '90s the civil war started. Though Leskovac was safely outside the war zones, the UN sanctions and embargoes and the economical collapse of the country due to one of the largest inflations ever recorded, the factories stopped working.
Much of what was still valuable and feasible for restructuralization, was bombed in the NATO aggression in '99, as a mean of pressure towards the social dissatisfaction, encouraged to overthrow the ruling regime.
After the fall of socialism in early 2000s, capitalist transition started. The formerly socially owned enterprises were nationalized to be sold for petty penny to the private companies. Many of them were not even considered to be restructuralized, the goal was to reduce the value as quickly as possible in order for them to be purchased without any delay.
Most of them were purchased for the incorporated land ownership, or for some money laundering schemes, and almost none started working again.

Wow !
Meat coma in 3...2...1... 😁
Happy to see you two in Leskovac !
Just across motorway, there is road, some 60 km up in a mountain, where we have house, near Vlasina lake. It's 1200 m over sea level , air is crisp and clear and swimming is great , but just during July and August.
So, we are quite often in Leskovac during a summer. Not prettiest town , but I love it. And a meat is highly recommendable.
Wonder why you haven't tried rolled Chicken liver in a bacon on a grill .
Now, I am waiting to see where you two will end up next time ! Exciting 🙂 !
Great story , you are the best !
Thank you! 😃
Thanks for this wonderful video. D grilled food looked divine.

These meats look like they have a chimichurri type sauce on them. I love that on so many meats.

Wow guys that’s food are sooo good I’m happy for you you eat a lots of delicious foods take care guy’s and always enjoy your adventures 👍🥰👏
You should go to a restaurant called “Mamma Rossa” and try the Pizza with lamb and “Pirotski sir” as toppings, and definitely try the ironed sausages . It is located in the city of “Pirot” it is considered to probably have the best food in Serbia! It is about 75km away from Niš. All the best to you guys!
Very nice ,pozdrav iz leskovca✊✊✊✊✊🇷🇸🇷🇸🇷🇸🇷🇸🇷🇸🇷🇸🇷🇸🚩🚩🚩🚩🚩🚩
The best Rakijas are usually homemade. And by that, I don't mean prepared in the bathtub. :)
Making Rakija is a Serbian tradition and in small towns or villages that tradition is still very much alive (like vine making in France).
When it comes to quality, there are not many (if there are any at all) industrial Rakijas that are on the same level as the homemade ones.
Food looks really good. Yummy 😋 Cheers and stay safe. 👍❤
Pozdrav iz Sombora! ❤
The dynamic duo eating to their hearts content!🌟🌟🥂🥂
We sure did!
Best ćevapi in Leskovac 👍
Just to emphasize that "rakija" is usually drunk on an empty stomach before lunch. "Rakija" is an aperitiv and opens the appetite before a stronger lunch, and since it is pure fruit alcohol you also can't get drunk from it if you eat a lot of meat afterwards XD😂.ŽIVELI!
Amazing food x
That food looks very 😋 delicious😋😋😋Take care guys 🥰
Thanks Linda!
Lovely to see u both
Stay safe.... ❤️😊
Thank you 😊
You should dab a bit into wineries, there's many good ones around whole Serbia
Man this made me so hungry!!
I've had some really good food in Sarajevo, Belgrade, Skopje, Banja Luka and Subotica but haven't been to Leskovac yet. It looks really good! Hopefully this summer...
Amazing!
Two British people complaining about the weather in Serbia in almost each video 😆 I don't know what's going on with the weather, we used to be proud of a lot of sunshine hours here, I guess the climate has changed a bit... May and June are the rainiest months here but the temperatures are around 25-30C so it tends to be humid a lot...
HAHAHA I know! The weather is still better than the UK!
The best rakia is in central Serbia main district of Šumadija city of Kragujevac. I know that everyone in Serbia will now say that it is their best. But check who has the best types of plums and the largest genus of plums in Serbia that's Šumadija, of course.and after all, see for yourself. By the way Kragujevac is 4th bigest city in Serbia you should visit it.
Your getting us excited, for when we can have a beverage indoors.🙏😂
Not long for you guys!
@@dabbleandtravel nope not long😀
Best rakija is in Sumadija District. If u can, go to my city of Kragujevac, its ova' there xD. Nice video btw, greetings ;)
Absolutely true
Velike Pcelice rakija 20 years old U can't beat that quality
One of the best ćevapi in Niš is in Skadarlija kafana in Dušanova street.
Amazing ♥️ I can’t wait to go
Thank you!
I love you guys....your videos are the reason I'm going on RUclips.
Thank you!
12:28 The best Rakija is in it motherland, Valjevo, western Serbia. But Leskovac makes also HQ rakija. My recomendation is to visit Vlasinsko jezero(Vlasina lake), is not faraway from Leskovac.
If u have time, maybe Vranje, small city southern from Leskovac. They are famous by gypsy trumpet music and poets.
Thanks for the information!
Pljeskavice and cevapi, especially in the south are usually a mix of calf meat and pork, so its ussually not 100% beef unless it says it is , but that's what also adds a nice extra flavor it it !
You should go to Sokobanja an hour from Nis and near Leskovac is Vucje with stunning river Vucjanka Its just a recomendation since i dont know if your still in Serbia
A part of the herbs the secret ingredient should be Bread(that why you have to put cheese to keep it moist)and egg most likely . The ground meat could be 60% pork 40% beef unless is specified Beef Pljeskavica. I myself like to use Panko, cheese, egg, herbs and mixed beef and pork.
One more thing can get you texture like that - put 1/2 tea spoon of bread soda in your regular burger mixture, mix well let it sit for 1 hour than cook.
Totally wrong. Sorry! ;)
Go to Pirot. One of the best cities to eat in Serbia. Close to Nis
Leskovac has the best food anywhere...says the carnivore in me!
Every time people eat Ćevapi, I love the facial expressions.
Amazing food, looks so tasty....off down the stairs to raid the fridge!
Oh yes!
I have something you probably know by now. All people from abroad are impressed by our 'slow' tempo of living in Belgrade, and its 'low' prices. Now you know that in other towns and places life is EVEN MORE cheaper (prices) and it is even more SLOWER. I am from a town 50 km away from Belgrade and the pace in my town is not as hectic as it is in Belgrade and our prices are cheaper. When I come from Belgrade to my town, I can feel more peace, people are not so restless as they are in Belgrade. I can imagine how fast is life in your countries (from the West), if you consider Belgrade as slow.
I see, you love Serbia, and Serbia loves you! ❤❤❤ Love from Niš
Thank you
You are giving me my Serbia back... I live in Las Vegas...
Thank you!
I am hungry 😋😅,😵💯
There are no special ingredients, just salt and pepper, meat approx 70% beef and 20-30% lamb/pork. Glad u enjoyed it :)
As for rakia best one's are homemade :)
Best rakija is definitely in Kragujevac (Sumadija) made of plum, peach or quince
next stop Čačak, Ovčarsko-Kablarska klisura, monasteries, great view in Morava and nature. You could go to Guča where is biggest festival trumpet
Feel good, because i live in leskovac :)
I'm sorry you didn't visit restaurant Konoba in Beograd. They have one kilogram pljeskavica on menu and it's perfect.
In Kragujevac near main church U have fastfood Plavi Bik, Blue Bull, and U must try Karadjordjeva snicla, best fastfood in world, world No.1
No one on a diet should be watching this :D ... thankfully I am not :D
Hahahahaha
Rakija you have to go to Valjevo to find the best
Thanks!
Or you can try "rolovana prasetina" It's rolled pork meat and stuffed with bacon and cheese, young pork meat
5:49 yes beers are back :)
Always!
Nice video. I would recomend go to Terme Mlava in Zdrelo, you have to book a room at the spa (Terme) they have the best Pastrmka and it's right out of the crystal river that come out of the mountain a few miles up the streem it's amazing and they will give you some amazing local Rakija. I have been there 20+ times it's only open with a room (30 rooms I think) so few people. You have to take the bus to Petrovac Na Mlavi then taxi few miles to the spa. Just an idea for a food review. Keep up the good videos.
Thanks, I like you guys... Proud of you...
Thank you!
I'm hungry now. Nice video!
Quite a feast!!
The best rakija in the balkans is hands down in Sumadija region. Its not always how it tastes but how you feel the next morning when you have a bottle of it :)
I will have to go to Leskovac when I visit Serbia to try their meat.
Definitely
I like your accent in the words (pljeskavIca, ćevAp...) It is quite domestic from Leskovac. 😊
You visited wrong place to eat good grill in Leskovac, you should ask for some help next time ;). Mrak kafana in Nish for good food, and Bibac in Leskovac with his famous pljeskavica with Sprza, also Leskovacka Muckalica and Leskovac's small or big Train (collection of best grill in one meal coming as wagons of train one by one) and the best drink with grill is cold Spritzer or as we say kilo kilo (one liter of white vine and one liter of soda water or now mineral water). With pljeskavica or cevapi you eat only hot powder of paprika and a lot of onion that is only right way to eat it :) Leskovac is famous with his Grill, Ajvar, Sprza, Paprika (when you want to make Ajvar you buy paprika from Leskovac) you should visit Lakosnica when they take paprika from fields or just googl it and see some photos :) Next time ask for help and you will see what will happen.
Lots of places were actually closed but we still loved it 😍
Also the best burek is located in Pancevo near Belgrade ( pekara Stankoski). FOR SURE !
Thanks!
Yes in your pljeskavica is cheese and bacon...
So good!
I can't believe all that was £12
Amazing value!
Well you can imagine how poor Serbia is and how low salaries here are, especially in small towns such as Leskovac.
@Dragan L are you sure? Have you seen how people were chasing 3000 dinars voucher in the shopping mall few days ago as if it was Black Friday? What does that say about the country and society? How can people pay bills and live with 3000 RSD they get? Have you thought about the quality of the life in Serbia instead of quantity only? Have you met retired people whose retirements are 10k RSD monthly? Have you met people who work for 25-30k RSD monthly for Serbian bosses where they don’t have any rights at all or maybe you are one of those bosses, so it’s all good for you? How do you explain thousands of young and educated people leaving Serbia every year? What about state institutions that are not functioning so the simple people have to do certain things by themselves or to “write to president”? Unfortunately I see both causes and consequences. Serbia is definitely no winner and that is the saddest part, so don’t show the false image to foreigners.
I am SERBIAN from Leskovac AND I live in corby.... UK
