- Gymnastics - 6 Amazing Vaults Named After Gymnasts.
This artistic gymnastics video compilation features 6 of my favorite most amazing vaults named after female gymnasts.
For this video, form, execution, height in the leaps, as well as the difficulty have been taken into account.
Whenever an athlete successfully performs a skill for the first time in a FIG gymnastics competition, it is named after her, so all the elements shown in this video have been named after gymnasts.
List of vaults and gymnasts performing them:
6 - Ewdokimova (Irina Ewdokimova & Viktoria Karpenko)
5- Chusovitina II (Oksana Chusotivitina & Alicia Sacramone)
4 - Zamolodchikova (Elena Zamolodchikova & Wang Yan)
3 - Amanar (Simona Amanar & Simone Biles)
2 - Cheng (Cheng Fei & Hong Un Jong)
1 - Produnova (Elena Produnova & Yamilet Peña Abreu)

I love that the distinction of the best Produnova ever done still belongs to the woman herself, on the old horse. She was such a boss.
It's been 20 years since that awesome vault at the 1999 University Games and nobody has come even close ever since!
That vault is simply AMAZING. One of the best ever
Amen to that!
@discordant dancers I think it's a very difficult vault with a blind landing.
I love that! Does anyone know if it’s easier or harder with the newer vaulting tables? It’s unbelievable how she gets so much height that she’s not sitting when she lands, like gymnasts today. So I was wondering if the new vaulting table makes it harder?
Alicia Sacramone doing the Chusovitina 2 is so well-executed. It's near technical perfection, and just stunning to watch.
As much as I like and admire Chuso, I have to admit that Sacramone's Chusovitina was commonly better executed, higher,...
@@GymnastlyI definitely agree. Oksana has almost TOO MUCH power in that vault, making it look really messy in the air. Crazy to think how strong the woman is at her age.
The Prudonova scares me, I close my eyes when a gymnast is about to throw one.
It is a scary vault and it takes a brave gymnast to perform it.
Shame Yurchenko wasn’t included as a lot of the vaults were an extension of hers
She single handedly influenced that event more than any athlete in history.
She pioneered the Yurchenko vault that revolutionized the vault.
Best Amanars done: Monica Rosu, Cheng Fei, Mackayla Maroney, Simone Biles
@Macdealerx Cheng Fei's is technically (I mean according to technics) the best. Maroney always has bent knees in the air which makes her form look messy, even though she does get great height. Biles always crosses her feet and never points her toes. Cheng Fei has straight legs in the air, and has the most pointed toes on her Amanar.
@Macdealerx For form in the air cheng fei is definitely the best. She doesn't really cross her toes, her toes are pointed and are never bent. Simone definitely has the best block and Mackayla has the best landings(she usually sticks it)
Leander Hartley No, it’s not. Cheng doesn’t get anywhere near the height or distance of Maroney or Biles. McKayla’s block and speed of run are far superior.
@@Nicole-db2ub Exactly what you just said 👏
Add Jade Carey to that now.
The most amazing thing is the way they run at it, full tilt. That takes as much courage as skill, because if it went wrong they could easily do themselves a serious injury or die, yet they head straight at with everything they have.
Being able to do that is actually one of the things coaches tend to look for in the very early stages of a gymnast's training. I did my beginner's gymnastics lessons at a gym which produced world champions & an Olympian and where the coaches were quite strict, including coaches from the former Soviet system. The way the gym was set up, there were two vault runways, one going each way. When you're just learning to vault, you don't use the full runway these elites do, so we'd be lined up near where the other vault was. We were learning front handsprings, and on that day, one of the coaches for the elites was standing by the vault they were using as they were training new vaults. I was the ONLY girl who was totally unafraid to run full-speed. My coach had to push the springboard back from the horse because the other girls would slow at the last minute and I didn't so I covered more ground. My coach forgot and I flew over the horse. The elites' coach saw and was impressed that I had zero fear. Asked if I could get my bar work up to scratch so she could add me to her team as a vaulter. She said that when a young gymnast is able to throw themselves into a vault that way it is an indicator that they will do well with the mental aspects down the road in terms of fear.
@@michellebaker6302 wow Michelle ma'am.. such a wonderful story.. deeply felt ur words..🥰🥰.. wish u r doing well
The produnova's vault is unbelievable.. it's a kind of magic
Yeah. Now, thanks to your comment, I can't stop hearing that Queen song (A Kind of Magic) in my head.
Elena Produnova’s Produnova is exquisite!🤩
It's like she said "It's my vault and I'll show you how it's done".
Chuso is trying the Prod with her knees together. The Queen cannot fly splayed-kneed like a frog :) I'm keeping my fingers crossed. She may make it.
I would love to see her successfully land it at Tokyo 2020.
@@Gymnastly if she does that at her 8th and last olympics it would be iconic. She already is such a boss bit if she lands this it would be next level
Training the Produnova must be so rough on the knees! Every time I see it (well, ALMOST every time, that first example was alright) I seriously cringe because of the pressure on the knees. I'm surprised Elena lasted as long as she did with all the crazy stunts she pulled in her routines!
I don't get not putting Maroney's vault from the team final in 2012 for the Amanar examples. Should've been a perfect 10 in execution!
yeah if you need a nice example hers is as good as it get
Simone's vault shouldve been added. The Biles.
That clip from Maroney has been overused and I think that so many others vaults deserve a chance to be noticed.
Plus Maloney has really horrible leg positioning in the air. Just look at her legs and feet
@@nabojsa then you should also check mustafinas aa vault and bars. Its just they believe no one can be perfect.
0:54 was legit PERFECT
Omg! The Ewdokinova! 🤯
That Produnova...is a work of art! Powerful yet magical!
That first vault is hideous
It really is. I laugh when I see it. It's not that it's executed poorly, it's just ugly.
Kelly Stout no. It is beautifully performed by Yang Yun
😂😂😂man yes its hideous
She was such a graceful vaulter.
nabojsa I just looked that up.... You are so right! It makes this one seem completely unacceptable 😂😳
It’s unfortunate that Amanar never actually fully stuck her own signature vault at those Olympics, but she certainly created something iconic!
God loves you
That choked me up man. Produnova is my fave then a close Amanar. 💖💖🤸♀️🤸♀️😂😂👍👍
When a vault is so difficult that only the gymnast it was named after can succesfully perform it, it deserves #1 in my list.
The Ewdokimona is so unflattering but so impressive
Biles, the best perfect. .blessed.
Where is the "biles"
I uploaded this video before the Biles was "revealed".
The Biles isn’t on Vault, it’s on Floor Exercise.
Since the end of October, there is a Biles on vault, which Simone introduced at the world championships. Check it out, it's amazing.
Troy Smith there’s a vault too. It’s a half on double twist
Troy Smith She has a “Biles” on every event but bars
The best Ewdokimova that I have ever seen was done by Viktoria Karpenko ! You should have include hers !
And DIPA
They did, she's the second girl in this vid doing that vault.
Agree...Yang Yun’s HSLO was the exemplar of vault: Legs straight, minimal arch, arms out to the sides
Alter did a pretty good one at 97 nationals too
The 2nd gymnast in the video is Karpenko.
Wow!!! Those last three were crazy good!!!😍
They are. Aren't they?
Congratulations to all the the gymnast there are incredible so professional you are all number one may God bless you always brand new
Not everybody appreciates how hard even the simplest vaults on this video are, and how many hours of training these gymnasts have to put in to do what you see here.
The Chusovitina I vault is actually the FHS front pike full done in 2001.
The last one is so amazing!
That is the most difficult vault in women's gymnastics. Nobody has been able to do it like Produnova herself ever since.
Ever notice how much more spring the newer springboard has than when Amanar vaulted.
No. Look at Zamolodchikova and others. Gymnast defines how much power they need from the board, look at the intense pull of Produnova.
Hope to see a Simone Biles vault as well sometime! :-)
I made this video before the Biles came out, but I made a video about Simone's 6 Most Amazing Skills a few months ago, where you can see the Biles.
All hail Prudonova!!!
Hail Produnova!
Good vid. However, are you telling me that out of the dozens of competitions with Simona Amanar you couldn't find a better shot of her doing her signature vault?🥇
She only did it once in competition, at the 2000 Olympics; so, unfortunately, no other performances with her eponymous vault.
@@Gymnastly Really? I didn't know that. Thanks.
They need a Maroney.After McKayla.
WK WK she was known for the amanar
Why? She wasn't the first to compete any type of vault.
Unfortunately, she never created a new vault nor was she the 1st to do a new vault at worlds or at the Olympics, which are the requirements to get a vault named after a gymnast.
Yowzer! These are spectacular - especially the last one!
The last one is, with the Biles, the most difficult vault done on women's gymnastics.
More info would be nice. Like the actual move being made, and the names of the secondary gymnasts.
You have all of that info on the video description. On the actual video, you can see the name of the vault. I hope this helps. 🙂
Probably the only Gymnast I can see doing a clean Produnova is Biles, but she is too busy doing other skills and creating her own. Seriously, there is always at least one unique Gymnast every 10 years that is hard to replicate if she can be replicated at all.
I could see Andrade too, if she wanted to do it.
Viktoria Karpenko did amazing job with that vault over time.
I didn't think I've seen anybody being as beautiful on that vault as Yang Yun.
Would love to see Simone try the prodnova
Nobody has been able to land it like Produnova herself, but if somebody could, that's Simone.
Exactly! And shed fucking kill it
I don't like that the FIG doesn't score the Biles on beam accordingly. If anything is dangerous its the Prudonova vault.
The Biles on beam is only 0.10 higher than the full-in, so why would Simone chance a fall for just an extra 0.10, when she already has a super-difficult dismount? What the FIG has done is discouraging gymnasts, so they won't go for the most difficult skills.
Has Simone ever tried the Produnova?
You need to do this video over, because it would make more sence with the Simone Biles'vault!
Actually, I posted her vault on the 2 videos I made about the 2018 championships, one published before the championships and the other after the championships. Also, stay tunned for another video I will post in the near future where you might see it again, but it won't be exclusively about vault (I won't reveal more details, you'll have to watch it). 😉
Just Artistic Gymnastics, Okay I will check it out, thank you!
3:06 that blonde judge is like DAMN
She was priviledged to witness the only time Produnova landed her own vault like that.
@@Gymnastly i would be too! 😻
The middle three seem to look the same and just depends on getting on the vault. Someone explain
Chusovitna front handspring onto the vault then laid out and half twist
Zamo half turn onto vault and double twist (tsukahara)
Cheng round off handspring then half turn onto horse and 1 and 1/2 twist
Hope this was helpful
Biles is phenomenal but I’m surprised they didn’t show Maroney’s Amanar vault at the 2012 Olympics... Best. Vault. Ever.
I don't like to use the same clips too many times. If you want to see that vault, check out my video called "For the Love of Gymnastics".
What about the Khorkina the vault she introduced in 1994 where she easily get recognized and won a silver medal on that vault very innovative and still considered to be highly difficult it had a start value of a 9.9 when she first introduced it wondering why other gymnasts didn't deliver it in competitions?
Shallon Olsen has been doing the Khorkhina as her 2nd vault for a while.
I loved #1
Beautiful video. Thank you so much.
You're welcome.
So does anyone think that no one has been able to really land the Prudonova because the vault apparatus changed? I see a difference in the approach after vaulting up on both ladies
Sorry Oksana, you're incredible and an absolute legend, but Alicia showed you up on your own vault. :-P
Michelle Baker Oksana is vault Olympic silver medalist. Alicia who?
@@flfm6736 Please. It's about one vault specifically, not about who is better in general.
It is true that as much as I like Chusovitina, on this particular example, Sacramone's height alone is superior to Oksana's.
lol i love simone biles
why?
idk she's just amazing
It surprises me that Yamilet Pena does such simple vaults by today's standards after attempting the most difficult numerous times. I guess injuries?
The COP has changed so that doing a very poorly performed Produnova no longer gets you good scores. The risk of life-ending injury is just too high.
I have YET to see any other gymnast perform the Produnova the way Produvona does... I don't think it will ever be performed the same way again...
It's been 21 years and no other woman has been able to come close to the way she performed it!
I love this video!
The Edwokimova looks like an accident, like she failed at doing a vault and just did whatever.
Kelly Stout how?
I kinda thought the same, with the bent knees and split legs..... my first thought was "damn....she sucks at HER VAULT!"
It also doesnt look good mid air with the split legs.
nabojsa omg i checked it and it id AMAZING !!!
That was such a gorgeous vault!
#5 is the ugliest vault I have ever seen, and #1 is the most terrifying
judges gave produnova a low score on that vault scared that other gymnast would try such a difficult move.
One more on a series of questionable decisions by the FIG, who seem to downgrade elements based on what they think could happen.
Which was the Sukihara? You always hear that referenced in a vault
It's a handspring with 180° turn, onthe 1st flight of the vault, that is before the hands touch the vaulting table.
Yeah but my point was have you ever heard of any other vault mentioned more often than the sukihara? I wondered the the sukihara wasn’t on your list?☺️
@@stickassholio3163 the Zamolodchikova is a variation of a Tsukahara vault.
My coach, huiying wang (ying ying), competed a vault and was named after her i think
Isn't a front handspring 1 1/2 twists called a rudi? Not Chusovitina II?
According to the FIG Code of Points: "Handspring fwd on - stretched salto fwd with 1½ turn (540°) off" is the Chusovitina. We call it Chusovitina II, as opposed to the Chusovitina o Chusovitina I, which is the "Handspring fwd on - piked salto fwd with 1/1 turn (360°) off". The Code of Points calls both of them Chusovitina.
@@Gymnastly Right, but isn't commonly called a Rudi even during gymnastics commentary?
@@raggedtiger1974 I think that it might depend on who does the commentary, some prefer to call it by the name the FIG gave it, some might call it something else.
The Rudi is a front 1.5 on floor
It should be called an Atler since Vanessa Atler did it back in 1999 at the American cup.
I feel like you’re forgetting the most important- the yurchenko(I’m not sure how to spell it!) and a lot of these vaults are add ons to it!
Actually, the Yurchenko is not even a difficult vault, and only one vault in this video (the Amanar) belongs to the Yurchenko group of vaults, the rest are totally different.
@@Gymnastly the Yurchenko revolutionized gymnastics though and a majority of vaults today are based off of it, but I understand, it’s your video, so you choose, and these were all great choices!
You should update this and add the Biles.
I actually made a video with all the skills named after Simone Biles, you should check it out.
There is the biles now too
If you want to see it, check my video "Simone Biles: 6 Amazing Gymnastics Skills".
I don’t see the difference between some of these.
In some cases the entry is different, tuning before the hands touch the vaulting table.
P.s. congrats for 500s subscribes!
Thanks very much!
You just haven't found any video for the Amanar vault other than the one she steps out.
It is time for someone to do a Tsukahara 2.5.
I reckon Julia Steingruber might be able to do it.
I still don't get how Produnova was able to land that thing cleanly and elegantly. She seems to be the only person who could, and only by cowboying the hell out of it. Amazing. Others can land it but only by the skin of their teeth.
You should update this with the biles and probably mckayla maroney doing a amanar
And now in 2021 we have the Biles 1 and Biles 2
I can't wait to make a follow to this with the new vaults that have been introduced since I made this video.
I came curious to see the yurchenko, from a previous video
You can see the Amanar here, which is a Yurchenko with 2.5 twists.
I wonder what vault will be
named after Simone Biles?
Coming soon...she's already the only female to do the Yurchenko, TBD😃
She already has 1 vault named after her, the Biles, which is a Cheng with an extra 1/2 twist, and in Tokyo, she'll do the double piked Yurchenko, which, if she lands it, will be named after her.
Should’ve put Maroney’s 2012 vault for the amanar
Is the first one allowed anymore?
Yes it is, is not a particularly dangerous vault.
My knees hurt everytime I watch prudnova 🤣
I’m not familiar with who’s who. So which ones are the original gymnasts?
We were missing number 1000000 the Ojeda´s hahaha
I really wanna see Biles performing Produnova at Tokyo 2020!
That would be awesome, but, since she was already doing the Amanar, a 3/1 Yurchenko is not a big stretch from it, but she could definitely pull it off.
Who's the last lady shown???
Yamilet Peña, from the Dominican Republic.
What about the "McIntosh"? (Layout Full)
There doesn't seem to be a vault with such name in the WAG Code of Points. Perhaps you're referring to a vault that's called something else?
@@Gymnastly No its named after Trudy McIntosh ruclips.net/video/jeYBhKCTPyE/видео.html
Amanar did that in Sydney, with the faulty horse.
I think she only did it in event finals, and, by then, they had fixed the vault.
How was McKayla Maroney's Amanar not shown here?
I used Maroney's Amanar in too many other videos, I like showing other gymnasts to give them a chance to shine.
We called these by there skill name back in my day, half on full off, front handspring double front etc. probably cuz my coaches could say all those exotic names. 😋 I competed back when it was the old vault horse .... don’t judge haha.
i bet Simone could do the Produnova!!!
Probably....but the the risk outweighs the score.
She has her own vault with the exact same difficulty value as the Produnova. Her vault is the same as the Cheng adding 1/2 a twist, so It would be an unnecessary risk training a completely different vault like the Produnova.
@@Gymnastly it would still be awesome to see!!!! i'm sure she would nail it!!
Whenever I watch vault and see that someone is about to try produnova, I pray. I'm an atheist.
🤣🤣🤣
Did these gymnasts invented these vaults or they were already there? If yes, then, are gymnasts allowed to come up with unique vault directly in the match? If they come up with unique vault then do judges take their time to decide it's difficulty level or they decide it on the spot?
Vaults are made up of elements variously combined (type, connections, number of twists etc.). When a gymnast comes up with a new combination, it means she has been training it, she doesn't come up with it on the spot; if she's able to land it, judges score it based on the elements that compose it and may consider officially putting it in the code. Usually, a skill has the name of the first gymnast who is able to complete it in competition, which is not necessarily the first one who tries it in a competition; also there are skills families, because a new skill can originate from adding elements to a pre-esisting one e.g. the Yurchenko vaults family
@@federicapiottoli6922 thank u Federica for the detailed information.

It's in other videos I've made.
You should give a real example of AMANAR vault with AMANAR herself, not one with a landing mistake! Amanar has hundreds of examples with perfect vaults! Shame....
I can't believe Simona Amanar blocked that vault off a horse
WHERE may I ask is Maroney's Amanar in this vid?! 3 😂😂😂
