Watching the The Queen's Gambit, a tv show about a chess prodigy who sometimes lost games and had to STUDY chess games, tactics and strategies to get better and become a champion was so eye opening for me that I decided to finally learn how to play chess, on my own, at 35 years old. I have gotten VERY good at it since 2020 and I still play every week. The lesson here is that even "gifted" people have to put in the effort and IMPROVED on their craft.
That's the most remarkable thing about her to me. Her landings aren't perfect in some instances but her degree of difficulty is so high it cancels out whatever she would've lost on the landing, making her nearly impossible to beat as long as her mistakes are minor.

She makes it look so easy that people forget to look up how difficult the moves actually are. And for no other gymnist to be able to pull off the same move speaks volumes. To be the best, you have to train like the best. She seems to have many skills in stock. Skills that she's practiced but hasn't debuted yet. She will definitely go down in the history books as the GOAT!
I was skeptical at first but FYI - it's named after Yurchenko for being the first to perform it, but Simone was the first to actually perform it in competition, which is why it was renamed, since no other woman before her could pull it off in competition. It's also known for being very risky since there's a much higher chance of this move resulting in landing on your head or neck than most others. So while she didn't try it first, she's the only one to land it in a competition, plenty of justification for renaming it.
@@franksantiago2088 did they rename it Biles double pike now?? Cuz technically it totally should be renamed to Biles double pike. Oh, and I don’t see how anyone could seriously deny she’s the GOAT. Sure, objectively quantifying is hard, but she wins by an insane margin on so many levels (skills, difficulty, scores in different CoP, medals, execution). To say "But her ARtistrY …“ is just pathetic as it is the most subjective part of the scoring (not to mention sexist and eurocentric) and couldn’t even mar her achievements if she was indeed severly lacking in it.

Yurchenko refers to the approach to the horse (a round-off back handspring). Double twisting Yurchenko is the most common vault, but when Simona Amanar added a half-twist at the end (producing a 'blind' landing), they named it after her. We've seen double-pikes done off the horse before, but not with a Yurchenko (i.e. blind) approach, making it way more difficult, so it's rightly named after the first one to land it in competition.
