What people forget to acknowledge is that Simone is technically superb. Raw power doesn't get you to where Simone is. It's crazy that she competes harder skills than anyone else and it's only 60% of her potential.
This is so true- her half on technique is especially good, she does a full half twist before hitting the table and comes onto it with her shoulders square. It lets her get more height and air time, which is part of why her Yurchenko half vaults are so good.
Crazy part is that she over rotated the triple tuck which means she's definitely capable of doing it in competition. Definitely looks like she is the most athletic woman in history so far.
Tacking on to an idea below, I’d love to see Simone Biles stay in competitive gymnastics long enough that for her last individual competition, be it Worlds, or something smaller, forget about winning, and just chuck every insane skill she thinks she can try without getting hurt, and see how many more Bileses we can add to the Code of Points. Can you imagine commentators 10-15 years later? “That was a Biles Ii connected to a Biles III. Now she’s setting up for her dismount, and just a short hop on that Biles I! That’ll bring in a great score which puts the pressure on Russian Simona Gymnaskaya who is the only competitor doing a Biles IV dismount.”
@@koolkitty108 I apologizing for not making myself more clear. I was satirizing about what commentators could be saying at a competition in 10 years or so, when other gymnasts might finally be able to do some of the insane skills Simone can throw now, if she were to go to Worlds with the goal to get as many skills named after her as possible, instead of winning it all. She’s trained plenty of skills that never appeared in competition. If she threw them all and completed half of them well enough to get credit, we could see multiple Biles skills in other events beside floor. And I was joking a little also, thinking that “ Simone” or a version of it, might be, or become, a popular name for baby girls all around the world. Hence the name of a fictitious Russian gymnast. 😉

When I saw that Mustafina 😢😢😢 imagine how amazing it would have been if she'd done that dismount for the Olympics. A small tribute to Aliya now that she's retired 🥺🥺🥺🥺
I personally think that a neat idea for her would be to do enough difficulty at the upcoming Olympics to really cement her win and repeated dominance at a 2nd Olympics, reveal a new high-level skill or two, and take home 3 or 4 gold medals (team, aa, and at least vault and/or floor, as well as a medal or two of some color on bars/beam). Then, at Worlds, water down enough to where it is obvious to everybody that it's intentional and just focus on doing really pretty, really well-controlled routines to make world class routines look like compulsories.
@@koolkitty108 She has stated her fear of doing high-level forward skills such as double-fronts on floor (and, probably, by extension, the Produnova vault, also). I hope she doesn't go for it (I stated my reasons for this in a comment elsewhere on this thread).
Well two years has passed and now we can take the YDP off this list. The YDP is now OFFICIALLY the BILES II on vault. Yeah! A truly dizzying array of ultra-high level skills and combinations. Specific comments: 1) The double-layout immediately connected to double tuck combo is bomb-diggety; 2) The double-layout immediately connected to layout-stepout is a thing of beauty; 3) The 1.5 through to double-layout could also be a nice addition; 4) The triple twisting Yurchenko is something that it looks like she could pull off in competition, and it would increase her dominance even more, but I think that might be pushing things a little too far. In summary, her potential arsenal is beyond words. However, I really hope she doesn't attempt in competition any Yurchenko double-salto vaults or triple backs anywhere. I just don't think women's gymnastics should be pushed to that limit. In a parallel fashion, I think that somehow the men's difficulty should have a similar cap in difficulty for them. There has got to be a better way to keep the sport vital without demanding too much from the athletes and establishing too much of a standard for gymnasts to perform the really high-level G, H, and I skills (because this push in difficulty really can get to be "too much"). I hope that the FIG can successfully address and manage this problem.
It's hard to see because of the camera angle. But do know that Simone's legs are together and straight in the 1st piked Tkatchev, then she splits open her legs in a wide V-formation to do the 2nd regular Tkatchev.
It’s absolutely a tkatchev. I found a higher quality version and can see it way more clearly. I think trying to watch it on my phone and it being a little grainy made it hard to make out.
