This selection of top 5 is arguable, but misses one. In 1972, In 2 seconds on the uneven bars with her back flip, Olga Korbut changed the sport to spectacular. Everybody in the stadium knew it. A 10 pt score did not exist in 1972, but it should have. The judges almost got lynched. I know. I was there. I also saw Nadia in 76, Retton in LA, & Boginskaya in Barcelona (she had a rare grace). Nadia's 10s in Montreal were earned, but she was riding a wave started by Olga, and without the charm. For those who write that gymnastcs has gotten more difficult 50 yrs later,of course. Every sport evolves. But Olga's back flip to a spin-around the lower bar, and catching the upper bar - backwards, is illegal now, because it's too damn dangerous. Korbut changed the sport overnight.

for those of you who are saying that it makes you sick that "these coaches put medals over their athletes because they are competing with injuries" all I have to say that you probably are unfamiliar with chinese/japanese culture. they value honor more than anything, most of the times they would rather die than bring dishonor to their family and country. also, their mentality is so much different, they are tought from the young age to surpress emotions, pain especially. best example I can give you is when shaolin masters are breaking bricks with bare hands. the real purpose of doing this is not to show that you can break rocks (even though it's still very impressive). they do it with a pokerface infront of the public, sometimes with a scream to cover their pain, but they won't show it on their face. oh, they feel pain definitely. but for them that's the real mastery.

I'm crying for Kerri Strug everytime I see that vault. I hate gymnastics for forcing people to perform while they're injured. I love gymnastics because of the seamingly impossible things mere humans can do. Like Biles, Like Comanechi.
I'm surprised by the comments about injuries and athletes being "forced" to compete because of their coaches. Have NONE of you EVER dedicated your entire life to a passion whose pinnacle is literally just a moment of time? Do you understand the amount of dedication gymnastics takes, the number of hours, the bruises in training? From the outside, it may seem harsh, but if you're in that world - the Olympics are everything. And it's over in the blink of an eye. I hope you find that kind of joy in your lives; these athletes did - injury or no. They will be remembered for their achievements; can you say the same?
You know what? It's unbelievable that Kerri Strug won a gold medal for successfully performing her second vault with a broken ankle She got injured during her first one, but she had to perform the second one
She DID NOT, in fact, need the 2nd vault to win. She secured the top spot with her first vault. This was a crime, not a highlight. Not only did it end her entire career prematurely, it left her with lifelong issues preventing her from even completing a cartwheel after her abusive coach's sick bullying. He of course went on to enable the sexual abuse of the athletes in his "care". Bela is a devil.
If it was my entire team at stake, with the whole world watching no less!, which it was when Kerri Strug did that second vault ...It about as bases-loaded a situation as it gets in gymnastics; i.e if she landed it the US got Olympic TEAM GOLD if not they didn't, period!, I think I'd try to do the vault on a sprained ankle too! It was truly one of the most thrilling Olympics moments ever, and Kerri Strug became a household name (a star) afterwards when she was barely known before. I've never heard her say she regrets "having" to do that 😊! That was her moment in history; they don't call that "The Vault Heard Round the World" for nothin' !!! 🔥⭐🔥 Edit: My 57 year old memory was not quite correct 🤪. US would have won anyway but didn't know it at the time, one of those iffy situations. Strug's vault pretty much clinched it.
Nadia will remain as the greatest gymnast of all time. Biles is good as well but Nadia is better. If she wasn’t forced to retire early (19 years old) by her own government then getting medals is easy. She’s the only gymnast who’s able to get a perfect 10 again and again and again. She’s a legend!
I'm old enouigh to remember watching Nadia Comaneci (sp?) get all those 10s at the '76 Montreal Olympics...even to my 8-year-old self that was jaw-dropping. I have no idea how people can do any of this shit, it's incredible.
Yea, if you watch Nadia's complete performance it utterly blows everything else away. I'm glad you put it last in the video to allow the others to look impressive but when compared to what Nadia achieved they aren't anywhere near the same league. Perfect 10s on 5 events from a 14 year old? God-like.

When I saw it live, I knew I was seeing something so rare it's almost impossible --- HUMAN PERFECTION. To me it was a holy moment, a performance so difficult yet beautiful it was flawless.
It was as if even seeing it, couldn't believe it. . . . . perfection.
Olga deve avere i suoi meriti. Nadia invece era praticamente perfetta, aveva un ritmo diverso un flow magico.
I am very proud of Simone and all of our USA gymnasts also Dominique Moceanu and miss her but I am glad Dominique Moceanu is still trying that she has a gymnastics building to teach and I even have her book that she wrote in the past I haven't been able to read it all yet though but I do plan on it
I'm from New Zealand watching the US Olympic gymnastics team just breaks my heart now 😭
Number 1 should’ve been Olga Korbut’s uneven bar routine at the ‘72 Munich Olympics.
TIED WITH MARY LOU RETTON"S UNREAL VAULT THAT WON US THE GOLD in '84 ~~~!!!!!
for those of you who are saying that it makes you sick that "these coaches put medals over their athletes because they are competing with injuries" all I have to say that you probably are unfamiliar with chinese/japanese culture. they value honor more than anything, most of the times they would rather die than bring dishonor to their family and country. also, their mentality is so much different, they are tought from the young age to surpress emotions, pain especially. best example I can give you is when shaolin masters are breaking bricks with bare hands. the real purpose of doing this is not to show that you can break rocks (even though it's still very impressive). they do it with a pokerface infront of the public, sometimes with a scream to cover their pain, but they won't show it on their face. oh, they feel pain definitely. but for them that's the real mastery.
Wow they are all so good
Incredible Olympic and World History!
Simone Biles is literally the greatest of all time.
Only when she can use her doping!
Wait to the next games…
@@gabygaby5701 Rumors are that she training to be there. Besides, even if she isn't there, there's absolutely NO guarantee that anyone will be as good as her, let alone better. She is the best gymnast of all time and that isn't going to change for a very long time.
@@nogoodnameleft Nobody agrees with you. Nadia was good for her time, but Simone has created her own moves and one of the is a J level difficulty, a new classification made just for that one move. She "failed" in Tokyo (still earning medals) because of all the stress everyone put on her. She's the best and she didn't want to let anyone down, so she had to step down. That makes her a strong woman, not a fail in any way. Forgot to mention she is the most decorated gymnast of all time. She has more medals than any other male or female gymnast. Apparently, she is back in training and considering coming back for 2024, so f off with your unfounded insults.
no, Nadia, Olga and Vera
After training for so many years, giving up most of their childhood, these athletes would definitely compete injured
Yelena Mukhina the best of the word.. R.I.P 2022
Super respect to these athletes from me 🫡
No one will ever be so good as Nadia. 😎
love this comment.
Biles is way better. She's like an angel compared to Nadia who moves like a regular human.
@@lt2672 They are both beautiful in their own ways. Nadia moves gracefully while Simone moves powerful. No offense
@@lt2672 Nadia Comaneci and Olga Korbut....then Biles.
@@Gymnast-J simone is literally the most decorated of ALL time. by that standard, shes better. thats like someone comparing lebron james and steph curry. lebron is better, but some people might just say steph cause they like him better which doesnt count. simone has the most gold medals of the two. therefore, shes better
On one foot?!?!? Incredible
1)Perfect 10 Nadia
2)Kerri Strug vault
3) Olga Korbut backflip off bar
4) Mary Lou perfect 10 vault Olympic gold
5) Magnificent 7 Olympic Gold Team
Those are mine
Brazil winning gold for the first time is definitely one of the greatest moments!
WOW Nadia is the best gymnastics 🤸♀️
Having athletes compete while injured should see the whole team disqualified, they’d never do it again.
Such a shame Biles had to drop out this year. I hope we'll get to see her fly again.
I saw all of these! Incredible!!
Nadia’s performance was amazing but I don’t understand how she got a perfect 10 when she hopped a bit on landing and also looks like she accidentally hit her legs on the lower bar at 4:02. Those would both be deductions today
What about Olga Korbut???? Have u seen those fantastic presentation???
Thank you for #4 and #1.
I dream of being like you Simone you are my idol in the gymnastics world and I know it takes a lot of hard work to be as good as you are right now!!! :-)
I was wondering if Fujimoto’s rings would be in here. Great job picking it Amazing he was able to do that
That McKayla's vault was the best ever! 16.233 is just not enough, duh! I give her 16.400
Fujimoto and Kerri Strug...what a fighter! They did what they gotta do...huge respect to them all.
Makayla was not 26. 😂 she still isn’t
Nadia comenechi is in the title of worlds best gymnast. She got 7 perfect 10’s in the olympics, no one till day has been able to beat her record. (This happened in 1960-70)
It actually happened in the late 70s
1976 i watched it I was 12
Este Nadia Comăneci, nu "comenechi" ! De ce îi pociți numele?
I’m in tears watching these gymnasts in pain 💔😔
A huge fan of gymnastics, I'm a gymnast grandparent
Valeri Ljukin doing triple back on floor in 1987
Ri Jong song doing triple double on floor in 2004
Kenzo shirai triple double layout on floor 2016
Nakita nagorni triple back pike floor 2021
Bro what was that random rings routine from 1973. Sure he had a broken knee but there are so many better options
3:43 You have spelled HER NAME wrong. It is really disrespectfull.
NADIA COMĂNECI.
McKyla Maroney is not 26 here, she was 16.
NO. Stop using the Kerri Strug clips.
Why?
@@aparna169 she was badly hurt, but her coaches forced her to continue on regardless. It’s why she landed on one foot and immediately collapsed. She wasn’t able to perform in the rest of the competitions after that
@@CC-iq9qs still one of the greatest moments. Scottie Pippin once played with a broken hip in the NBA finals though he was not forced, I don't think.
@@kevinthunder3375 good for him but Kerri was forced. This is not a great moment. This is abuse.
@@kevinthunder3375 Scottie Pippen was a grown adult at the time. Kerri was a 16 year old girl who was training under coaches who physically and psychologically abused their gymnasts and were complicit in the abuse these girls suffered under Larry Nassar.
Nadia is the best gymnastics athlete that ever lived. No one else comes close
What is the point of the music. Can barely hear commentary!
I’m still not sure how Nadia got a perfect 10 when she didn’t stick the landing ? Was that just not a thing then?
She didn’t hop… she re-posed to present herself and complete the exercise
She hopped on most I think and still got 10s. I think it was just the times.
I am from romania 🇷🇴 like Nadia Comaneci
their jumps are amazing👋
The background music in this was highly annoying and unnecessary. Athletes performing with broken knee's, etc, is crazy. Gymnastics is a highly dangerous sport. I have to say these performances look pretty simple and tame, compared to the expectations today.
olga korbut needs to be in this smh
4:10 .. WTF!!!! this is craaazy
I'm crying for Kerri Strug everytime I see that vault. I hate gymnastics for forcing people to perform while they're injured. I love gymnastics because of the seamingly impossible things mere humans can do. Like Biles, Like Comanechi.
Will never forget Nadia 😊
I wonder why Mary Lou Retton wasn’t included in this she was amazing
Hi! Thanks for your comment! Mary Lou Retton is included in the part 2! Check it out here: ruclips.net/video/d2PhyHFpCXY/видео.html :)
Biles be some secret super-heroine she next level i heard she can fly
I'd like to know the background music
kerri strugs one footed vault and mckaylas perfect vault are core memories that altered my brain chemistry
I think that every gymnast knows Nadia Comanechi bars routine by heart
And I really think I do something with my half handstands 😳😳😐😐😐
I'm surprised by the comments about injuries and athletes being "forced" to compete because of their coaches. Have NONE of you EVER dedicated your entire life to a passion whose pinnacle is literally just a moment of time? Do you understand the amount of dedication gymnastics takes, the number of hours, the bruises in training? From the outside, it may seem harsh, but if you're in that world - the Olympics are everything. And it's over in the blink of an eye. I hope you find that kind of joy in your lives; these athletes did - injury or no. They will be remembered for their achievements; can you say the same?
I still cry to this day. Keri stuck it with 1 leg. One leg!!
Simone you’re my biggest idol
Did anyone else notice that they said McKayla was 26 years old? She was not 26 years old.
Would help if the on-screen advertisement wasn't blocking half of the vault...
Kerri said in an interview it was her choice to do the 2nd vault.
Knowing she was injured. To bring home the gold medal for her team
wonder how many of these little girls where abused it makes me so sad
You know what? It's unbelievable that Kerri Strug won a gold medal for successfully performing her second vault with a broken ankle
She got injured during her first one, but she had to perform the second one
She DID NOT, in fact, need the 2nd vault to win. She secured the top spot with her first vault. This was a crime, not a highlight. Not only did it end her entire career prematurely, it left her with lifelong issues preventing her from even completing a cartwheel after her abusive coach's sick bullying. He of course went on to enable the sexual abuse of the athletes in his "care". Bela is a devil.
One foot landing moment....no one will ever beat that
If it was my entire team at stake, with the whole world watching no less!, which it was when Kerri Strug did that second vault ...It about as bases-loaded a situation as it gets in gymnastics; i.e if she landed it the US got Olympic TEAM GOLD if not they didn't, period!, I think I'd try to do the vault on a sprained ankle too!
Edit: My 57 year old memory was not quite correct 🤪. US would have won anyway but didn't know it at the time, one of those iffy situations. Strug's vault pretty much clinched it.
Did Kerri suffer lo;g lasting damage to her leg from vaulting while injured.?
Nadia will remain as the greatest gymnast of all time. Biles is good as well but Nadia is better. If she wasn’t forced to retire early (19 years old) by her own government then getting medals is easy. She’s the only gymnast who’s able to get a perfect 10 again and again and again. She’s a legend!
I'm old enouigh to remember watching Nadia Comaneci (sp?) get all those 10s at the '76 Montreal Olympics...even to my 8-year-old self that was jaw-dropping. I have no idea how people can do any of this shit, it's incredible.
How about Vitaly Scherbo's 6 Gold medals at the 1992 Barcelona games or Aleksandr Dityatin's 8 medals at the 1980 Moscow games? 😳
Yea, if you watch Nadia's complete performance it utterly blows everything else away. I'm glad you put it last in the video to allow the others to look impressive but when compared to what Nadia achieved they aren't anywhere near the same league. Perfect 10s on 5 events from a 14 year old? God-like.
What about Olga Corbett???????
Where was Mary Lou?
I cant even do a cartwheel sheesh
Lol 😂 same
Same
Ha jokes on you!
why was the announcer saying mckayla was 26 in that video when she is only 26 this year. dude added ten years to her age.
