Some people, conservatives especially, are way too stubborn to give up their beliefs. We need to be harsh to make them see our side. After all, it's better to shoot down homophobic/transphobic comments when they happen rather than letting it fester and grow until it turns out physically harming people.

I, myself, am a trans, bisexual guy in high school, and this is insane. My school is very conservative, and I got in trouble with a teacher when a kid asked me if I’m a boy, and I answered truthfully. The kid also asked me if I had a girlfriend, and I said no, I have a boyfriend. Again, truthfully. The parents contacted the kid’s classroom teacher, and the teacher turned to the principle. The principle gave me a warning not to ‘press my views on little kids’ and to ‘stop taking advantage of kids and trying to turn them gay’. I couldn’t say anything, or else I’d be taken off of my sports team and get a couple detentions. Not to mention, my parents are very conservative and I’d kept my boyfriend, sexuality, and being trans a secret from them, (I had only come out at school, to my teachers and friends) and this whole situation forced me to come out to them. Everything is screwed up now, just because a parent refused to accept that people are queer, and a school system that can’t realize that queer people aren’t trying to exploit kids.

I'm nonbinary (and bi but that doesn't matter much in this case) and going through school I did know what the LGBT+ community was and was very accepting of that cause lots of my friends are a part of it, but i was not taught about gender at all outside of christian values. I did not understand why I felt the way I felt, like I was wrong somehow, that messed me up. It took me until i was seventeen to realise that I might not be as cis as I thought I was and I'm going to be honest, that took a huge mental toll on me. I almost took my life 3 times and have thought about it more. I'm getting some help now and trying to figure out how to get solid mental help but sometimes those thoughts return. I think that if I was taught the concept of gender and how you could be in or out of the binary and what it felt like to be in the wrong body I would be so much better off (I have other issues but that would have helped a lot.)
I wish one day these concepts are taught even to older teens because it could help people and probably save people.

It *is* frustrating because I'm just trying to live my life authentically and you have people coming in and demonizing it, refusing to understand. I try not to take it to heart though, because they're just projecting. Every accusation the right makes is a confession. They're the same people defending people like Matt Gaetz, or say that it's "actually a wonderful opportunity for life" when a child gets assaulted and ends up pregnant. It's like when your partner gets really paranoid and constantly accuses you of cheating, and it ends up that they were cheating all along. It's still harmful and you're allowed to be mad, but it says much more about them than it ever could about you. So just take care of yourself and don't take it to heart, you're not doing anything wrong by just existing 💜

I am afab non-binary and I agree. I think also people tend to be less hard on masculine afabs b/c being masculine is generally seen as “desirable” so it’s understandable to society why an afab might want to be more masculine. Conversely, being feminine is seen as “inferior” so when an amab wants to be more feminine, they are seen as stooping to a lower level or degrading their value. Really it just boils down to society hating anything associated with women or femininity.

I am a transgender bisexual 13 year old with a sister who is an 11 year old pansexual. There have been so many issues in our school involving us not being straight, but this is the one that pissed me off the most. My sister was hanging out with with one of her friends and her (at the time) girlfriend. My sister saw no teachers looking at her at the time so she kissed her girlfriend on the cheek. The friend didn’t care, as she knew the two were dating. They were sitting on a bench outside the bathroom when this happened. After they broke up, their friend told one of their classmates that the small moment happened. The classmate then told one of his friends. The friend told his sister. His sister decided to change the story to “two girls were making out in the bathroom”. She told all of her friends and they told theirs. Soon enough other schools in the area had heard about it. This drew the attention of the teachers and principal. The principal called the girls in and asked what happened. My sister was the only one who told her what happened. Now if this was a straight couple, they would have been let off with a warning, maybe a detention or two if anything. But my sister got detention for a week and the ex girlfriend got suspended (her punishment was more severe due to the fact that she lied). The principal called our mother and one of the things she said was “this hasn’t happened before, i really don’t know exactly what to do.” No, it was not the first time this had happened. A big deal was just being made out of it because this was the first time it was two girls instead of a boy and a girl.

gay marriage is a human rights issue when related to healthcare. people who have a problem with it literally want us to die alone.

This "groomer" meme is so stupid because there are virtually no trans or openly gay teachers in the public schools. And teachers, liberal or not, have zero incentive to "convert" students to gender fluidity--they're just dealing with the fact that more and more students in their classes ARE trans. If parents can't "stop" their teenagers from being trans, why do they expect teachers and schools to? There are some younger students experimenting with fluid gender roles, but that's almost always because they have "woke"/liberal parents. It is not the job of teachers to counter the parents who "let" their children be trans any more than it is their job to counter parents who "let" their kids be Jehovah's Witnesses. Conservatives can make a meme equating tolerating/accommodating different students with "grooming", but it really only shows how intolerant, ignorant, and stupid THEY are.
