Vox Continental vs Reface YC

  • a quick comparison of a 1966 Italian Vox Continental V301E and the V wave on the Yamaha Reface YC organ.
In general it sounds pretty close. The most glaring thing is the Yamaha doesn't allow you to adjust the sine and triangle waves separately. It sounds like it's a mix between the two at full.
I would take the Reface (probably with a full-size MIDI controller if I was going to play out somewhere and wanted the Vox sound.

They should have made the Reface with reversed color keys. I LOVE my Reface.

I've been hoping for a Reface II with more controls. They could have offered reverse keys as an option or limited edition. They clearly knew clonewheels are the highest interest. I play the H more than any other.

@@phlattgetit I believe the Korg SV-1 had an option for the reverse-color keyboard, which maybe costed about $50 more than the standard price (something like that). I used to own an original Yamaha DX-7, and the smaller DX-21, so when I heard about the Reface DX I was giddy with excitement. Turns out, the Reface is even better than I expected! It's easier to program than a DX-7 (although, I actually enjoyed programming the old one and I didn't think it was *too hard*), and the tones are 100% on-point. In terms of the YC - yes, the Hammond preset is really great. I've used it on almost all of the recent songs I've uploaded to my channel... I have the DX and the YC hooked up into a mixer, both in stereo, plus a mono channel for the digital piano, and another mono channel for guitar. It goes into two amps + a monitor, and it just fills the room! I recently ordered the Reface CS, and I'm just waiting for it to arrive. I plan on getting the CP as well, but for some reason they are out of stock where I live (Southern Thailand). These Reface keyboards are total winners! They're good enough for professionals, but they're easy enough for beginners. I encourage people who are just starting to learn piano to get a Reface, that way they'll have a good keyboard for life, rather than just getting a crappy Casio and later trading it in for something better...

@@creamydistortion Nord released a limited edition anniversary Norlead 2 with reverse keys. I toyed with the idea of using one of those and a drawbar controller in a custom box controlling the Combo Model V software.

Keep 5 1/3 and 1 1/3 pushed in. Continental didn't have those. However you set 2 2/3,2,1 3/5 and 1 keep them the same length because Vox has all of those on one drawbar. Keep the percussion off and the Leslie off, Use vibrato and not chorus and you have it dialed in pretty close. Keep rocking!

For $399. usd, it does the job. Let's be real... 95% of your average people listening wouldn't be able to tell the difference between the two in a mix.

very pleased with my modern Vox Continental 73 which I've owned for a few years now.
For my reface, I made a stand for a pair of YC with a small stereo line mixer to create a mini dual manual, it worked great except for too few keys.
If I was to do it over again, I'd get a Vox Continental 61 and use one of my 61 key MIDI controllers for the lower manual.

VOX Baratom! Nagyon hasznos a videod. Az a megfigyelesem, ha egy Doors zenei videot nezek, a ket fekete rud mindig ki van huzva, a fehereket csokkentik amennyit kell. Viszont V allasban ugy tunik a Reface hozza teszi a ket kihuzott fekete rudat.

Thank-you. It's been some time since I tried the Arturia. I agree with you it seems to be lacking. the reface sounds some better than it. Just more fun to play. If you can find a copy of Combo Model V it sounds more authentic than Arturia or Reface. ruclips.net/video/nz2Q12tH6eU/видео.html
It dissapeared from his site about the time Arturia came out with their version. I'm wondering if they didn't buy him out or some other deal?
There may be some copies of copies around though.

A very acurate and nice Connie is included with the Crumar Mojo 61. You also get other organs and pianos that are all good. You can't play them all together but in a pinch you could play a gig with that and a synth. This thing is a joke.

    • @phlattgetit
      @phlattgetit  2 года назад +2

Absolutely Not!!! Did I give that impression? The sound of the Continental is much superior to the Reface. However, If I was going on a tour I'd take the Reface and use the H sound without the rotary effect. A better combo sound then the V setting. For portability and reliability and cheaper to replace if lost, stolen or damaged. Although as of right now the Reface is difficult to find.
