Indian Scout Bobber Vance and Hines slashcut slipons

- The stock exhaust on the 2020 Indian Scout is not horrible but it isn’t screaming mean either. So as the second modification to my new bike I decided to look at exhaust with a bit more of a roar. I settled on the Vance & Hines 3” Slash Cut with black heat shields. The sound was a huge difference and in my opinion a huge improvement over the stock pipes. You should be able to install these slipons without doing a flash tune but with the combination of an air box (coming soon) I will need to reflash the bike.
Sound is a huge improvement but be prepared, these are NOT quiet. Vance & Hines does sell quieter baffles for these pipes that I was considering but have decided I like the aggressive sound of these so I’m keeping them as they are.
I will step through the removal of the stock pipes and the installation of the Vance & Hines 3” Slash Cut slip ons. Also included are some sound comparisons and a cold start with the new pipes.
The procedure is pretty easy and outlined in this video.
Thanks for watching!

Thanks for posting this. Made more sense than just the instructions. What a difference it makes in the sound and volume. I love it. Appreciate the helpful video.
Great to hear!
WOW I love that sound, thanks for choosing what I’m now putting on my scout
Thanks for watching. There are links to what I use in the build in the video description.
Got these on my bobber ,I love them sounds awesome
Good job showing sound before and after
thanks
Heck yeah. Sounds great.
awesome man, gives it a very different vibe.
Thanks.
Sounds awesome mate. Cheers for the amazon link. Btw came over from the facebook group.
Nice! Thanks for the feedback. You will love the sound.
Sounds awesome. Just put this same exhaust on my 69 bobber. Love it ! Great install video.
Thanks for watching. Hope my video helped a bit.
Looks great, sounds great. Hope your neighbors love and forgive you.
Yep. Luckily the neighbor is a car and bike guy also so he could appreciate it.
Awesome! Enjoy! Safe riding!
that damn thing sounds as mean as she rides, good upgrade my man
Thanks bro. Loving this bike.
The trick to getting the original mufflers off is to back off on the clamps that hold the mufflers to the head pipes. Then take the bike for a ride. As soon as you get home hit the junction of the mufflers and the head pipes with WD40. Then start unbolting the mufflers. It only takes a few minutes to do that. Once you get to pulling them off they come easily. Top one first. Then the bottom. Dead easy. Make sure all the WD is cleaned off before you run the bike.
Nice post. Not sure whether my bobber had an issue or I was just lucky but my original pipes came off literally in about 5mins. I was very surprised it was that easy as most youtubers seem to show a lot of exertion when getting them off. Love my V&H's Slashes, makes the bike sound and and look 100% better. The originals were just too big and not proportional to how the rest of the bike looked. Cheers.
The stock pipes are just too big, too heavy, and too quiet. I'm enjoying my V&H exhaust. Thanks for watching!
The hardest part to me was putting the OEM barrel bands on the V&H slip ons. Omg
Wow sounds like a different bike, I love it. Not sure if I’m ready for that much sound. I just drilled out my stock pipes and it didn’t do much…
I get a lot of compliments from people about how nice it sounds. Still running this exhaust and one of the better mods to the bike.
Your neighbors are going to love you! hahaha
When I put them on I fired it up to hear it and got a text message from the neighbor that it sounded good 😁. I still try to be quiet when I come and go but that is impossible. They really do sound great in person.
MessyGarage Awesome. My bobber gets delivered tomorrow and i have that exhaust ordered as well. Sounds awesome!!
@@eastvoltresearch Congrats. You'll love the bike. They are so much fun. Ride safe! I've got more videos coming on my bike.
sounds so much nicer love them are you going to do anything with the suspension I hear the stock one sucks
I have progressive 444s on order and waiting for them to come in.
Are u planning to change the seat ? Is solo 1920 comfortable?
Thanks for watching! The 1920 solo seat is actually pretty comfortable in my opinion. I think it is better than the stock seat but I've heard the "comfort seat" is better. For now I'm going to keep it but in the future I may look at other options just to mix it up a little. I was at a market on a trip one time and there was a guy hand making leathergoods and motorcycle seats. I may go that route but since it will take a while for him to finish it up and shipping to another country etc. etc. I may wait until winter to do that.
Your neighbors are going to hate you lol sounds great though
I took the link to amazon and i
t says it only fits 2015-2017. I have the exact bike you have and I’m at 400 miles. Looking to change my exhaust soon. Also did you use a fuel map after the exhaust install
That is the right link and I know it says 2015 - 2017. These are the same ones as you can also see if you look at the comments someone asked if it fit a 2020 bobber. You will love them if you get them. The sound is way better than on the video. I didn't use a fuel map when I switched the exhaust but just did the Indian performance intake and it comes with an reflash. (video coming soon after editing) It sounds even better with the intake. You are going to love it! You can trust that Amazon link as it is the right one. Let me know what you think once you get it on!
It’s the same for 2015 to 2019. The instructions will tell u what parts to use based on the year.
Hey man. Did you have to go to indian to remap with the new exhaust?? Did you lose power??
no remap needed and I didn't lose power. I did a remap after my air intake install though. Once you have intake and exhaust is when I would suggest doing that.
I have a Scout Bobber 2020 and I thinking to replace the original pipes by vance and hines ones the question its...
Did you need to do any else after replace the pipes (replace air filter, update the ECU) or only did the change?
If you are just replacing with slipons like I am doing here you can run it fine without a tune. If you change the air intake and the pipes, it is best to have a tune or at least a reflash. I have another video of the installation of the Indian performance air intake that comes with the cert for an included reflash. Some don't like this route because you can get more performance from an aftermarket tune but that also entails purchasing a tuner and tune which is more expensive. Depends on what you are looking to accomplish.
@@MessyGarageBMW I'm looking just to do the replace of original Slip-Ons by aftermarket ones
I just wish they have a Special Tools to pull out the Old Pipes
Are you doing a tune or happy that the slip ons won't affect anything?
Slipons alone won't effect much. In another video I install the indian performance airbox and get it reflashed. Better sound and response with both pipes and airintake done.
Where did you get that handle bar? And how much was it
The handlebars are the Indian 10 inch mini apes that come on the scout bobber twenty. You can also get them on the Indian website.
did you have to retune the bike after you installed them
I did an ECU reflash after I did the exhaust and intake but it isn't necessary if you do just the exhaust slipons like this.
I used some WD40 on my 22 scoute rogue, literally came right out with a little tug and wiggle
Do you need to wear earplugs with this exhaust? I tried the GP shorty and returned it because even with earplugs for me it was too loud, but I hate my bike sounding like george jetsen.
I don't have to wear earplugs. These are loud but in a deeper richer tone from the shorties. They also have an option to add additional baffles to quiet them some but I have not opted to install them. I get compliments constantly at how great it sounds.
@@MessyGarageBMW Thanks! I opted for the Bluetooth in my full face helmet , so trying to find something that is louder but not so loud I can't hear anything in headset.
@@MrXavierwalls I can hear music from my cardo in my helmet with this exhaust but it still sounds amazing.
@@MessyGarageBMWDid they come with the baffles?
@@billdane12345 no, mine didn't. I think you can buy them though.
Is it audible to other drivers on the freeway?
Yes, you can definitely hear it. It has a good tone as well as good volume. Not just obnoxious loud but it can be heard from a car and I've had other bikes comment on how great it sounds.
@@MessyGarageBMW thanks man!
Did you make your plate vertical? It’s horizontal with the stock pipes and vertical with the new pipes…😳😳😳
It is the stock plate mount but I just took a hack saw and cut it short, then mounted a plate backing to the shortened stock mount and mounted the license plate to that. Vertical plate for free and it maintained the factory lighting.
Ever consider the V&H quiet baffles? The standard baffles sounds LAF …😳
They are loud but sound good. I've not experienced the ear ringing that others have so I've not done quiet baffles. The sound is so much better in person.
Are Indian bikes reliable like Honda?
I've had my Indian for a year with zero issues. I own a suzuki that has been problem free since new in 2008 (amazing) never owned a Honda but have heard similar things to Suzuki in regards to reliability. I would say, so far it is rock solid but I can't speak to Japanese bike level reliability. Build quality is great that I know. It would also be a question of passion and reliability and where they intersect. I think a Honda civic would be more reliable than a BMW 335 but I would take the 335 any day due to the drive. It is a matter of opinion I think when it comes to that and the value proposition for each person.
Dude, I got a 2021 bobber 20, I got the same pipes, they won't fit!!! I think the heat shields are interfering??? Can I pick your brain dude??
They should fit just like the video. What is causing issues?
@@MessyGarageBMW heat shields are hitting, do they butt up against each other or do they overlap?? I called Vance and Hines and they said no, I got a new mounting bracket and that didn't help, the top pipe is 1/2 inch too far back and bottom pipe is 7/8 too far back
Without pictures it is really hard to see what is going on. There is a fb group Indian-bobberNation if you post the question up there with some pics and video I will take a look and see if i can help figure it out.
@@ChristianLAla-fb3dq did you figure out what the issue was? I have a 21 Scout Bobber 20 and just bought these slip om from the Indian dealership and they said they will fit.
@@ChristianLAla-fb3dq Not sure if you fixed this issue but I experienced the same thing. After an hour or two of struggling, I realized if you don't tighten the front clamps on the heat shield, then you should be able to slide the whole thing in. Then you can tighten the clamps.
