      bearmassaro I would never put the words “blunt” and “intelligence” together. “Sharp” is the adjective for me. But, ah, thinking here, perhaps you mean “blunt” as in “honest, saying it like it is”? Well, no matter. Mr Lydon is brilliant!

    He's really lucky to have survived meningitis, many kids don't. I can understand his hatred of liars, if you have a blank mind you need the truth to get better you're so vulnerable.

    • @lavielemond

      VERY well said, Michelle...& the mortality rate back then, in the '60s & in his impoverished circumstances, was EVEN WORSE than it is now. I'd not actually thought of his dependence upon the truth, even more than most kids, due to his severe illness & resultant memory loss.

    After seeing him doing an interview on a chat show about John when he was asked about his meningitis, the effect that it had on his memory and it resonated with me. I had autoimmune encephalitis 8 or 9 years ago which affects the brain and the memory in a similar way so I could relate to what he said about trying to regain his memories. It’s not bloody easy and has profound effects on all ways of life, I’m going to have to find his book (it’s amongst my other books) and read it again.

It's the one big human challenge. Free will makes an individual what it/they are/is....alter egos can seem so brilliant and witty, cant they?

    I wish there was a question of how Flowers Of Romance really came to be? I like all of PiL's stuff, but Flowers is so OUT THERE, but brilliantly done! I'm mean I loved the Pistol's and PiL over here, but didn't know much of the background to it all. Yet Johnny's lyrics were just MASSIVELY encompassing to so many things globally and personally. 'Flowers' just seemed to speak volumes of issues on such a heartfelt level that transcended EVERYTHING at that moment. (New wave, new romantic, industrial, heavy metal, disco, etc.). And then to learn Flowers was mainly for/from Sid's life and the Bromley Contingent. It paints that picture so well for me now to get an understanding, YET - still is so poetically and creatively out there that it still stands as prophetically universal. Or is it just me? (And John would no doubt simply answer "It's all you mate!" LOL)

      I LOVE that record. Right up there with Metal Box. Ferociously original and esoteric, but I loved it immediately. I would also completely understand anyone who couldn't stand it. Maybe the most non-commercial album ever made by a band on a major label. Kudos to the label for letting them get on with it.

    • @DungeonStudio
      @DungeonStudio 3 года назад

      Indeed! And I think it was WB totally by that point, whereas I think PiL had ties with Virgin for the first two releases. But to think WB had just signed Devo, Kraftwerk, and let Keith and John get away with 'Flowers'. They really took a gamble. But I believe all 3 of these iconic releases are STILL getting issued by WB today - 40 years later!

    As a lifelong fellow Gunner (Arsenal FC fan if you don't know) & devoted fan of John Lydon the man, I just want to HIGHLY recommend the following half-hour clip here on YT: ruclips.net/video/_SkUPM_T7FE/видео.html which is the final 35 minutes of The Sex Pistols Tour of London (also on YT in full version), during which he drives around London upon the top of a double-decker bus, sharing his opinions re: how ghastly the modern architecture of London has become (including Arsenal's Emirates Stadium, where they moved to in 2006 from beautiful old Highbury, a stadium that he grew up nearby, in Finsbury Park) & how much the city has lost its former spirit, which is both highly entertaining & sad (because he's 100% right).
