I don't understand why people say negative comments about yuneecs customer crevice . I called yuneec the day day my drone crash and I got an email the next day . Requesting proof of purchase . Once I showed proof the next day I got another email for a ups packing slip .i love their customer service I never had an issue . I love my drone I fly it 2 to 5 times a day for the past 3 month .

Just got one of these at work today. While I've yet to fly it due to weather, out of the box and setup was just a breeze. The steady grip is an epic bonus for what we do as well. Our other drone (bebop) just had one too many incidents of going rogue on us. I hope we have some fair weather tomorrow for flying. Great footage at the end there, as well.
There's a GPS in the controller and a GPS in the quad. The controller sends commands to the quad to change position based on your movement. Yuneec makes a device called the wizard which is a small handheld unit which has an embedded GPS. The wizard is a lot less bulkier than the ST10 controller and would lend itself better to what you are trying to do.
I will be buying this from Carolina Dronz. The reason I'm choosing the Q500 4k is looks,better customer service,ease of use,bigger than the DJI ,doesn't use a $150 battery and I don't have to supply a tablet or smartphone. While the light bridge might offer better range,I don't plan on letting my quadcopter get out of eye sight.
Frank at carolinadronz will take care of your regardless if which unit you go with...and they are have their strengths/weaknesses...I'm hearing that dji is finally starting to improve their customer service...which is nice to hear for a change.

+Doyle Williams Thanks. Right now I am using Corel Videostudio Pro X8...I got it very cheap and it is 'ok'. I used to use Adobe but I'm not a fan of their current model of doing monthly subscriptions. I may try some other software soon but Adobe is the best.

Wow! Really nice work! Thanks so much for this very detailed review of the Q500. I'm somewhat split between the Q500 and the "H". I can get the Q500 pretty inexpensively right now so it's tempting, but, IMHO the Typhoon H is more capable because of the unobstructed 360 degree camera yaw range. Do you have experience with the "Typhoon H"? Which do you prefer between the Q500 and the H? The more I think about it, the more I think the full camera rotation of the H is worth the extra money. Come to think of it... maybe you know of someone who has pulled off a "retractable-landing-gear" mod for the Q500? I would think such a mod would give the Q500 the same full rotation range for the camera that the Typhoon H has... Ever heard of such a thing? Again, thanks for the great Q500 review. Also... the short after the review is fantastic! Very nicely done! Although, I would guess that such gorgeous scenery makes just about any gear look good :).
Thanks! This video was from a few years ago. At this point, the Yuneec units are pretty dated and word on the street is that Yuneec USA has closed their doors. Be sure to consider those things before buying.

Is the Q500-4K still worth getting, with the newer drones out there since 2017? I have seen quite a few youtubers that were gaga over it upon release, now NOT recommending them or calling them awful...
Dan Bayne I would say not...a few generations old now and there are much better cameras out there. The only thing this one has going for it is the noise level is pretty low.

Thanks... things are changing all the time in the drone world. I still love my Q and use it and the steady grip quite a bit but I'm also happy to report DJI has stepped up their game and their customer service has significantly improved. Their app stability is much better now as well.

On the side of my P3 pro remote, there's a dial to control exposure of the footage, with the Q500, do I have to dig down into the menu in the screen to change that during the flight?

I think I mentioned it before but it was over a year ago--the problem that I had when filming this was that I had a mic fail on my primary camera and I had to recover audio from a GoPro that was in a waterproof enclosure and amp it up to recover the audio from it.

+Erwin Delarmente Neither are analog video so both will have lag. The lag is typically minimal and they are both about the same although the P3 might win out by a few milliseconds.
I have seen a review that shows the difference between the 4k mode at 30fps and 1080p 120fps that seems to make it look like the field of view is shrunk dramatically in the 1080p view... could you make a comparison video of a couple fly bys in the 4k mode at or 3.7 at 30 fps vs the 1080p 120fps? it just doesn't seem right.... thank you!

I've never used a bebop but based on this review I would stay away: www.theverge.com/2016/1/22/10814282/parrot-bebop-2-drone-review Some of the hobby shops carry a few quadcopters and such but not a huge amount.
it's all personal preference based on capability and budget. Some will allow to charge multiple batteries at once, some can charge at the full 1C rate for this battery... When you have determined what you want to spend, then you can start centering in on your options for a good charger.
Don't use the basic charger. Something like a Hi-Tech X1 will allow charging of many different styles and sizes of batteries. It will also allow Storage charge, fast charge, balanced charge and has a built in meter. It costs about the same as a single Q500 battery. About 80-90 dollars.
but those software would have to edit and save in 4k vision? i know a guy that had a camera and his software would save at a lower resolution. just another thing .. when you have the camera on the handheld stand... what is the power source ie. batteries from the quadcopter go into the hand device?
+Reg B. I used Corel Videostudio Pro for this video which I bought on Amazon for less than $40. It supports 4K res. As to your other question, rechargeable AA batteries (NiMH) is what you put in the steady grip, although some users have modified to work with a battery pack.

The versions of the chroma that use the ST10 are fairly similar...there is also a version that is spektrum compatible. The chroma breaks down easily for portability.
Nice review. I do love my original Q a ton, as well. I'm curious though as I have my sights set on either a P3 or an Inspire next. You mention consistent app crashes and almost a guarantee app crash if flying longer than ten minutes. This is a real worry of mine, and why I don't really prefer an app/smart device for flying. What tablets are giving you that much trouble? I planned on getting an Ipad Air 2 for that rig. Has the latest firmware update decreased app crashes substantially now? Perhaps you did this commentary prior to the latest firmware update? If Yuneec would include a POI mode I would have no reason to consider anything else at this point, but I don't think that's in the plans.
+dfizzbom The Inspire is nice for sure! I'm waiting for the Inspire 2, though...If you are using an Apple product as your tablet then you will probably be ok. It's weird...DJI has been kind of cyclical about what works better. When the P3 first came out, they were late on getting their Apple version released and you had to at least connect with the app the first time before flying (so you needed Android)...In the beginning, Android was the way to go...now Apple version of DJI GO is working better. If you have an Android device, you can delete some of the Google services to make it work better with the GO app but that kind of defeats the purpose of having a tablet (unless you want to dedicate it to the Phantom). I use my tablets for other things...including other quads, so not an option for me. Also, I am averse to Apple products in general due to their proprietary nature and expense. I have the latest P3 and GO firmware/software. I do like the P3...and if you buy it from a good dealer, you can't go wrong. On this video, I concentrated on advantages of the Q...but the P3 has advantages too. The GO app is pretty sweet (when it's working). It's nice to be able to live stream to YT, have a moving map, and do firmware updates through the app. You do have more camera control with the P3 as well...can do exposures up to 8 seconds for example. On the opposite side of things, there are times when I find the Q more preferable...especially when it comes to being stealthy. With the P3, it can be 3,000 feet away and I can still hear it...you can be 500 ft away with the Q and not hear it.
+Drones In SC Has an Inspire 2 been officially acknowledged yet? I figure it's gonna happen but I can't wait forever. I plan to hold off on DJI until I see how their ground station app turns out- hopefully released soon. AT some point I will probably upgrade to the yuneec 4k camera and ST10+ as well.
Point about the smart/dumb battery argument - if you fly regularly and often then you're right, no point in duplicating smart tech in every battery. But if you fly as and when opportunities arise, then whether to keep batteries charged up or not becomes a factor to consider. The DJI batteries self-discharge to a safe storage level but dumb batteries will stay fully charged - and every time that goes on too long the cells are degrading. All depends on your pattern of use really.

When I got the transmitter on and the typhoon on and I wait a couple of mins for it to bind, it seems that my camera is pointed just a little to the left. It seem that the camera is not line up dead center of the Typhoon. Any advance on this issue? and also when I try to take a snap shot it tells me that the snap shot fail. I sure it just some that is simple to fix or something that I'm not doing right. Thanks for any info.
+Elsina Edmond The GPS performance between the two of them is virtually the same...however, if you place then side by side the q is almost always ready to fly before the P3.
Today, I'm liking the P3 Pro better... they've fixed problems with earlier firmware but you still have to be careful with updating because sometimes they will create new problems with new versions. I also like that 3rd party apps are available for it. I like the Yuneec for the low noise aspect and for the steady grip that came with the unit. I use both the P3 and the Q500 but use the P3 a little more often.
can you elect to use a "regular" transmitter with this and still control the camera etc? The Parrot skycontroller is also android based if I recall...could one use that or "hack" it? I love the parrot controller and wish other would follow use it.
+Stephanie Wynter It's good to have options to do different things. I fly several units (including DJI). Also, keep in mind that this industry changes all the time...you are commenting on a video from last year. I believe I mentioned some of the things I liked about the q in the video: use for flight in sensitive areas because it is very quiet in flight compared to the phantom, comes with a free steady grip which is a great added bonus and you can do some really cool things with it, having an integrated controller is desired by some and for some time last year there were a few updates to DJIs Pilot and Go apps that rendered them almost unusable to several devices and a lot of people. Finally, at the time of this video, DJIs. customer service was atrocious and Yuneec's was amazing. This year the customer service playing field is more level...DJI stepped up their customer service game.
hi there please help me out some 1 ... i just got a new yuneec q500.... i got it flying and works amazing.. but when i put in the mini sim card into the camera and fly and press record.. and when i get home there is nothing on the card?? y?? y doesnt it wana record and put the video into the card while flying
I've never heard of that problem. Have you tried writing a file from your computer to the card and then opening it from the card to make sure it's good?
Brandon's Bricks As I recall, no (but this was a few years ago now) ...you could use your mobile device in the steady grio to record sound and sync it in post.

I have Ben looking at the same drone. I really think it is a good investment for $200.00? I tried it out and it is a trip we’re these are compared to flying the old single piston air planes,,models.If you crash the old planes you stand a chance of destroying them like I did at the beginning. These have features built in to assist in not crashing it.

I don't have a chroma but it's very similar to the Q except that the chroma breaks down for transport. I have seen some complaints about problems with the chroma but I'm not sure how much of that is due to user error.
+John Kavouras I'm on a cell phone, walking the streets of Davao City, Philippines at the moment so it is difficult to find a link but do a search for a review of the Chroma. As I recall, the legs fold or detach for transport.
Excellent the Yunnec Q5004K ! The only bad thing that does not fly to more than 1,500 above sea level, and for countries like Mexico that are 2,500 meters sea level we fail to peel it off . hopefully the company move the parameter altitude it would not work otherwise.
+wazzobazzo You yaw the quad to pan which has the same effect. If separate camera control is what you are after, you're looking at something like the Inspire 1 with dual controllers.

Hi, I have problems is the st10 won't turn on when I plus usb charger in to the wall for a while, The st10 transmission sreen won't turn on . Do you know why ?
You are trying to turn on the ST10 while charging? You should be able to do this but why do you want to? does it charge ok? does it work properly after charging?
Drones In SC I am not trying to turn on st 10 when it charging , after 4,5 fly , the st10 work fine . But only today when I charger the st10 with usb came with it it in to the wall and the st10 sreen won't show anything, normally when I charger it about 45 second sreen will show some thing . I took charger off and turn on st10 sreen still won't show any thing . Tried different wall out let still same problem even I plus usb to computer to st10 , too ? Do you know how to fix it ?
+Tyson N First thing I would check would be to make sure the battery is connected. Then I would try a different charger and USB cord in order to determine where the problem is. I do not use the USB charger as I would rather charge for 1 hour with a smart charger rather than several hours with the USB charger.

+Tyson N it could be the battery. if you remove the battery and connect to a smart charger it will display the voltage of the battery as well as how many mah of charge you supplied to it when charging. There are many affordable chargers ($20-$25 USD) such as the skymax or tenergy tb6. I would give you links but I am on a cell phone out of the country at the moment.

I'm not 100% sure what your are asking. If you are referring to the battery that you place inside the Q500...I was referring to fact that it is a regular battery, not a smart battery. There is at least one aftermarket battery of similar design which will fit in the Q500.
What's up friends the last weekend was flying my drone yunec q500 4k , and unexpectedly fell off me , the problem is I can't find the problem with that I want to know if any of you have this problem with this brand of drone Im sure its well-calibrated , flew that 20 minutes and i havent problem, the only thing that happened is that the video stopped and the drone fell to the floor. Can someone of yours tell me what is the problem
I haven't done any personal comparisons as of yet but I have seen a few out there...most of them claim the P3 Pro may have a slight edge in quality...but that also comes from people with a DJI bias.
lipo batteries are used because they are lighter and (the big reason) because they have higher discharge rates (can supply more current) than more traditional chemistries like NiCd or NiMH.
let's not forget another cool but really unimportant thing, the Q10 looks like a freaking sinister space "fighter"...the dji....not so much. style points go to yuneec.

+iglyduckling No, it is a button you press on the main screen when in the CGO-3 Pro Mode...I demonstrated that in this video.

khole_87 no color grading on this one. Not a fan of its photos... They are just OK but thus model is a few generations old now.

Great video! So I was wondering with regards to the Video Transmission with both... From my understanding the DJI uses LiteBridge & Yuneec uses Wi-Fi? Is that right? Which is better out of the box for smooth streaming & distance??? Thanks in advance....
Lightbridge has the clear advantage for distance... but the 2000+ feet of range I get on the Q has been more than adequate for my needs.
OK sounds great... And with the Q it's nice and smooth with no lag? I had the Phantom 2 but love the size of the Q & looks way cooler lol
+Erwin Delarmente Neither are analog video so both will have lag. The lag is typically minimal and they are both about the same although the P3 might win out by a few milliseconds.
I have seen a review that shows the difference between the 4k mode at 30fps and 1080p 120fps that seems to make it look like the field of view is shrunk dramatically in the 1080p view... could you make a comparison video of a couple fly bys in the 4k mode at or 3.7 at 30 fps vs the 1080p 120fps? it just doesn't seem right.... thank you!

Some of the hobby shops carry a few quadcopters and such but not a huge amount.
What type of smart charger would you suggest, to use with the Q500
it's all personal preference based on capability and budget. Some will allow to charge multiple batteries at once, some can charge at the full 1C rate for this battery...
When you have determined what you want to spend, then you can start centering in on your options for a good charger.
Don't use the basic charger. Something like a Hi-Tech X1 will allow charging of many different styles and sizes of batteries. It will also allow Storage charge, fast charge, balanced charge and has a built in meter. It costs about the same as a single Q500 battery. About 80-90 dollars.

There is no editing software included but there are many free or low cost programs available.

just another thing .. when you have the camera on the handheld stand... what is the power source ie. batteries from the quadcopter go into the hand device?

As to your other question, rechargeable AA batteries (NiMH) is what you put in the steady grip, although some users have modified to work with a battery pack.

I'm honestly not sure about plans for waypoint navigation. You use the included screen on the ST10+ controller for FPV.

+Daniel Merchan those use analog TV signals... the Q uses digital over WiFi... not compatible. This really isn't designed for fast FPV flying.

The versions of the chroma that use the ST10 are fairly similar...there is also a version that is spektrum compatible. The chroma breaks down easily for portability.
Nice review. I do love my original Q a ton, as well. I'm curious though as I have my sights set on either a P3 or an Inspire next. You mention consistent app crashes and almost a guarantee app crash if flying longer than ten minutes. This is a real worry of mine, and why I don't really prefer an app/smart device for flying. What tablets are giving you that much trouble? I planned on getting an Ipad Air 2 for that rig. Has the latest firmware update decreased app crashes substantially now? Perhaps you did this commentary prior to the latest firmware update? If Yuneec would include a POI mode I would have no reason to consider anything else at this point, but I don't think that's in the plans.
+dfizzbom The Inspire is nice for sure! I'm waiting for the Inspire 2, though...If you are using an Apple product as your tablet then you will probably be ok. It's weird...DJI has been kind of cyclical about what works better. When the P3 first came out, they were late on getting their Apple version released and you had to at least connect with the app the first time before flying (so you needed Android)...In the beginning, Android was the way to go...now Apple version of DJI GO is working better. If you have an Android device, you can delete some of the Google services to make it work better with the GO app but that kind of defeats the purpose of having a tablet (unless you want to dedicate it to the Phantom). I use my tablets for other things...including other quads, so not an option for me. Also, I am averse to Apple products in general due to their proprietary nature and expense. I have the latest P3 and GO firmware/software.
I do like the P3...and if you buy it from a good dealer, you can't go wrong. On this video, I concentrated on advantages of the Q...but the P3 has advantages too. The GO app is pretty sweet (when it's working). It's nice to be able to live stream to YT, have a moving map, and do firmware updates through the app. You do have more camera control with the P3 as well...can do exposures up to 8 seconds for example. On the opposite side of things, there are times when I find the Q more preferable...especially when it comes to being stealthy. With the P3, it can be 3,000 feet away and I can still hear it...you can be 500 ft away with the Q and not hear it.
+Drones In SC Has an Inspire 2 been officially acknowledged yet? I figure it's gonna happen but I can't wait forever. I plan to hold off on DJI until I see how their ground station app turns out- hopefully released soon. AT some point I will probably upgrade to the yuneec 4k camera and ST10+ as well.

The FOV is about 115 degrees...there is example footage at the end of this video.

Totally dependent on your local conditions, wifi congestion, obstacles, etc. All that being said, 2000 ft. is easily doable... further is possible.

Point about the smart/dumb battery argument - if you fly regularly and often then you're right, no point in duplicating smart tech in every battery. But if you fly as and when opportunities arise, then whether to keep batteries charged up or not becomes a factor to consider. The DJI batteries self-discharge to a safe storage level but dumb batteries will stay fully charged - and every time that goes on too long the cells are degrading. All depends on your pattern of use really.

When I got the transmitter on and the typhoon on and I wait a couple of mins for it to bind, it seems that my camera is pointed just a little to the left. It seem that the camera is not line up dead center of the Typhoon. Any advance on this issue? and also when I try to take a snap shot it tells me that the snap shot fail. I sure it just some that is simple to fix or something that I'm not doing right. Thanks for any info.
You can calibrate the camera. Read the manual
Does this model still require the syncing with GPS before the first flight, ie, spinning the drone in all directsions, etc

Today, I'm liking the P3 Pro better... they've fixed problems with earlier firmware but you still have to be careful with updating because sometimes they will create new problems with new versions. I also like that 3rd party apps are available for it.
I like the Yuneec for the low noise aspect and for the steady grip that came with the unit. I use both the P3 and the Q500 but use the P3 a little more often.
can you elect to use a "regular" transmitter with this and still control the camera etc? The Parrot skycontroller is also android based if I recall...could one use that or "hack" it? I love the parrot controller and wish other would follow use it.
The controller is proprietary to Yuneec, not compatible with any other controller.

+Stephanie Wynter It's good to have options to do different things. I fly several units (including DJI). Also, keep in mind that this industry changes all the time...you are commenting on a video from last year. I believe I mentioned some of the things I liked about the q in the video: use for flight in sensitive areas because it is very quiet in flight compared to the phantom, comes with a free steady grip which is a great added bonus and you can do some really cool things with it, having an integrated controller is desired by some and for some time last year there were a few updates to DJIs Pilot and Go apps that rendered them almost unusable to several devices and a lot of people. Finally, at the time of this video, DJIs. customer service was atrocious and Yuneec's was amazing. This year the customer service playing field is more level...DJI stepped up their customer service game.
hi there please help me out some 1 ... i just got a new yuneec q500.... i got it flying and works amazing.. but when i put in the mini sim card into the camera and fly and press record.. and when i get home there is nothing on the card?? y?? y doesnt it wana record and put the video into the card while flying
I've never heard of that problem. Have you tried writing a file from your computer to the card and then opening it from the card to make sure it's good?

I have Ben looking at the same drone. I really think it is a good investment for $200.00? I tried it out and it is a trip we’re these are compared to flying the old single piston air planes,,models.If you crash the old planes you stand a chance of destroying them like I did at the beginning. These have features built in to assist in not crashing it.
screen location below controls makes this a no sale. arms are always blocking the screen. it needs to be above controls.
I've never had an issue..the way most people hold a controller, your arms will fall to the side of the unit...
This is not an issue for most people. Do your arms come out of the middle of your chest?

If you were going to choose between the Q500 4k and the blade chroma 4k cgo3, which one would you choose?
I don't have a chroma but it's very similar to the Q except that the chroma breaks down for transport. I have seen some complaints about problems with the chroma but I'm not sure how much of that is due to user error.

The only bad thing that does not fly to more than 1,500 above sea level, and for countries like Mexico that are 2,500 meters sea level we fail to peel it off . hopefully the company move the parameter altitude it would not work otherwise.
The maximum is 8500 ft MSL and even that can be increased by requesting a special firmware from Yuneec.

Yes, you control the pitch (up/down) with the slider on the side.

Geo fencing is only active in smart mode. You can fly in angle mode or connect your computer to the Q and edit the geo fencing distance.

+david david GPS is on automatically. I would only suggest flying with GPS off if you are an experienced pilot or are flying indoors in a large space.

Hi, I have problems is the st10 won't turn on when I plus usb charger in to the wall for a while, The st10 transmission sreen won't turn on .

You are trying to turn on the ST10 while charging? You should be able to do this but why do you want to? does it charge ok? does it work properly after charging?
Drones In SC I am not trying to turn on st 10 when it charging , after 4,5 fly , the st10 work fine . But only today when I charger the st10 with usb came with it it in to the wall and the st10 sreen won't show anything, normally when I charger it about 45 second sreen will show some thing . I took charger off and turn on st10 sreen still won't show any thing . Tried different wall out let still same problem even I plus usb to computer to st10 , too ?

+Tyson N First thing I would check would be to make sure the battery is connected. Then I would try a different charger and USB cord in order to determine where the problem is. I do not use the USB charger as I would rather charge for 1 hour with a smart charger rather than several hours with the USB charger.

What kind charger do you using for ST10 ?
+Tyson N it could be the battery. if you remove the battery and connect to a smart charger it will display the voltage of the battery as well as how many mah of charge you supplied to it when charging. There are many affordable chargers ($20-$25 USD) such as the skymax or tenergy tb6. I would give you links but I am on a cell phone out of the country at the moment.

I'm not 100% sure what your are asking. If you are referring to the battery that you place inside the Q500...I was referring to fact that it is a regular battery, not a smart battery. There is at least one aftermarket battery of similar design which will fit in the Q500.

Im sure its well-calibrated , flew that 20 minutes and i havent problem, the only thing that happened is that the video stopped and the drone fell to the floor.

How does the image quality compare to the DJI Quad?
I haven't done any personal comparisons as of yet but I have seen a few out there...most of them claim the P3 Pro may have a slight edge in quality...but that also comes from people with a DJI bias.

why do they us lipo batteries if they are so dangerous? are there any non lipo aftermarket batteries for the 4k.
lipo batteries are used because they are lighter and (the big reason) because they have higher discharge rates (can supply more current) than more traditional chemistries like NiCd or NiMH.

LiPo batteries are much longer lasting then NiCad and the like. They are also smaller and lighter.

Nick Falzone I don't remember the specs as this was a long time ago but i think it was in the neighborhood of around 35 mph or so.
This is going to be my first drone. Your review along with another I saw has convinced me this is the one for me. Since it's my first one, I'm sure 35 m.p.h. will be more than fast enough.
