    I haven't used my Yuneec 4K in four years. lol This video refreshed and taught more than I knew. Now I'm headed outside, with notes, to practice. Thanks a lot!

    Great teaching video, Jeff. The only thing I would add to a new flyer is, if you are flying and get confused or crossed-up somehow, just let go of the sticks! You will hover, and with GPS you will hover in the same spot. Take a deep breath, and think for a minute what you want to do next. Keep your mind ahead of where you want to go, then fly there.
    I'm watching these for the second time and still learning. Nice job!

      You know, that's a GREAT tip. I'm going to start a series of short videos with quick tips for Q500 owners, and I'll mention that as part of one of those videos!

      Yes agreed, that's easy do when you have GPS lock. what scares me is what to do if you lose GPS... I have not & hope to not, be in that situation... I have always shown many Satellites @ least 6 on controller and many more on the "Q" But if you lose GPS, as far as I have learned, UR On UR OWN!!!! Don't B 2 High so you know your orientation.

    Simply OUTSTANDING instruction, Jeff!! I wish I'd seen it sooner. I got my Typhoon 4K for Christmas '16, and even though I'd had a good bit of practice with a Syma X5C, I promptly crashed the Typhoon and broke a blade within about 10 seconds?? I'd read the documentation, but it doesn't come close to preparing a beginner. So, the aircraft has been sitting in my living room waiting for me to get up the courage to give it another try. Your video series has given me the knowledge and motivation to get back out there. I'll update the f/w and get started ASAP!! Thanks for the quality work!!! Frank

    • @JeffSibelius

      You are exactly who I created these videos for. I think there aren't enough introductory level videos to give new pilots the knowledge they need to fly comfortably and confidently and that's what I try to do.
      Prepare for success - fly in an open park with low winds, have a plan of the things you want to try on the first flight, keep the drone close by to begin with - and fly with confidence.
      Let me know how the flight goes!

      Jeff Sibelius Hi Jeff. I sure will. All of your videos have been simply the best. I was top 100 out of a quarter million guys on Playstation Formula 1, so I look forward to trying to get good with this controller.

    • @RacerIDMedia
      @RacerIDMedia 7 лет назад

      Jeff Sibelius one question. If there is an object that you want to fly a circle around and have the camera keep focused on the subject, what stick motions would achieve this?

    • @JeffSibelius
      @JeffSibelius  7 лет назад

      LOL you should have no problem with the controller then - and the Q500 won't fly fast enough for you to get too fancy with the banks and curves LOL

    • @JeffSibelius
      @JeffSibelius  7 лет назад

      This is tricky with the Q500. First, put the aircraft in Angle mode. Then, with your nose pointing the object, push your right stick right and your left stick left. The right stick will put you in motion and the left will rotate the nose, forcing the quad to fly in a circular motion.
      The tricky part is balancing the amount of input on the two sticks so you rotate and move proportionately to create the circle motion.
      If you watch my video on Angle vs. Smart mode, I use this to create a partial circle, wrapping around the end of a building.
      The Typhoon H and Phantom 4 both have an auto fly feature that does this for you . . . it's a feature that is just a little ahead of the Q500's time.

      Hi Paul - Thanks! You're exactly the person I created this series for, people who are entering the hobby and flying this type of aircraft for the first time. I'm glad you found it helpful.
      Do me a favor - let me know what you think about the Typhoon G after you've flown it a couple times? I own a G but I put a CGO3 camera on it as soon as I got it, so I've never flown mine with the GoPro gimbal or MK58.

    Jeff, an absolutely superb instructional video. Professional class video in every way. Thank you for your time and effort, it paid off big time. I just received my Yuneec Q500, I haven't even unboxed it yet which is unusual for me. Normally, I fly first and read later. That's what I have done with all of my previous RC aircraft including my beginner quadcopters with reasonably good results. I wanted to "do it right" with the Yuneec though and your video is by far the best I have found yet. I haven't searched yet but it appears you have a series of videos covering this drone which will be very useful and much appreciated. Thanks again! :-)

    Thank you so much i appreciate all your hard work/set up. I am picking up mine tomorrow....what is the best way to land it for a newbie? Also can i put the speed in between the turtle and rabbit mode? Finally do you know if the regular box comes with the sunshade? Or just the bundle. Regards :)

    • @JeffSibelius
      @JeffSibelius  8 лет назад +1

      Hi Tek.
      As far as landing, as long as you're not flying in windy conditions, I encourage you to land manually. When you hit RTH it may not come down right where you want it - like on a bush, a curb, a nearby car LOL. Just get the quad to about 6-8 feet off the ground and slowly bring it straight down to the ground.
      You can put the speed between turtle and rabbit - it's a slider so you can choose any speed between the two extremes.
      You should get a sun visor with your Q500 but it's really awful. I recommend getting something like this:
      www.ebay.com/itm/PRO-Sun-Hood-shade-Yuneec-Typhoon-quad-q500-ST10-transmitter-5-5-/121926976865?hash=item1c636a0561:g:6EwAAOSwUuFW1iZP

    GREAT video's sir. It is good to note though that your video's also applies to Chroma. With that said I have a question? When you change the geofence in the firmware to set the boundaries for smart mode, I am guessing this is also changing the geofence for AP (angle mode as well. If it is not and an entirely different setting PLEASE advise. Setting the distance is a must since I have very close neighbors and do not want to fly in their yard. I have been poking around and noticed the lowest boundary setting is 20 meters. Can I set a shorter distance? Thank you in advance for your response. Best Regards

    • @JeffSibelius
      @JeffSibelius  8 лет назад

      +jay j Hi Jay - I have to admit I don't know the answers to your questions. I extended my geofence limits out to the max distance I would fly and just haven't tried going beyond that. I'll see if I can find out tho

    • @JeffSibelius
      @JeffSibelius  8 лет назад

      +jay j One thing did occur to me about this . . . if you fly in SAFE mode, setting your geofence lower than 20 meters gives you a very small window for flying - that safe boundary around the transmitter is 26 feet, or about 9 meters. That means you would be restricted to flying in an area only 11 meters horizontally between the two restricted zones.

      +Danny Whitlock Thanks! You're doing things very wisely - this is the same approach I used. I started with a Blade Nano, then got a couple outdoor toy quads to practice with wind. My first A/V quad sat for almost a month while I practiced flying the toys to be competent and confident before putting $1000 in the air for the first time.
      April will be a very interesting time. Yuneec will be coming out with their new Typhoon H hexacopter at that time. You should be able to find some good prices on the Q500 4K.
      I've got three different videos partially shot and I'm working all of them now. This weekend I plan to shoot the raw footage for two more videos (although those two will not be aerial). So I should have several more videos coming out soon!

    great job! thanks from Italy. just a question, the home point on the q500-4k is the take off place or the last place where you calibrate the compass?

    • @JeffSibelius
      @JeffSibelius  8 лет назад

      The Q 500 uses a dynamic home point so your whole point is wherever it last saw your transmitter. So if you take off and walk 100 feet away the Q 500 will think of that spot where you're standing hundred feet away as your home point. If you walk 100 feet away and then go a little further and loose connection to your drone from your transmitter The Q 500s home point will be the last place it actually knew where your transmitter was.
      Where you calibrate your compass has no effect on your home point.

    • @JeffSibelius
      @JeffSibelius  8 лет назад

      +Omar Calhoun Wind is what causes me not to fly more than any other factor. If it's higher than 9 mph I just don't take off. I use uavforecast.com to find little pockets of time where the wind lets up enough for me to fly, so sometimes I'm doing it early in the morning or around dusk.

      You'll need to fly the drone further away from an airport . . . DJI and Yuneec drones have the no fly zones built into them. The only drone worth buying that doesn't have the NFZ is Autel, but you don't want to fly anywhere close to an airport anyway.

    This video is outstanding for a newcomer like me. You will surely have lots of subscribers as more pilots begin flying Yuneec products. I especially like the background music. Your voice is calm yet firm and gives confidence to the new pilot that she or he can complete the steps you outline. The split screen is another powerful visual aid. I have noticed that other videos either show the aircraft or the ST-10 controller, whereas one can see the nexus between the two in your work. Hi Jeremy - thanks for posting! I had to watch this video again to remind myself . . . the Q500 flew backwards as it returned to home rather than rotating to point back at home. Now, if the drone were pointing sideways when I triggered the home button, I'm guessing it would come back while pointing sideways.
      I always loved flying the Q500. It was a very stately aircraft. Its biggest challenge to me was how it handled wind . . . it was like a flying frisbee sometimes. So I moved on to other drones that can handle the wind better. But the Q500 was pretty much my first drone so I will always like it!

      Hi Fabio - sorry, just saw this . . .. 25 minutes is marketing hype. If you get 17 or 18 minutes, you're doing well. Best way to keep your batteries healthy is to charge them just before you use them, don't leave them charged for several days and run them down to the warning messages before you recharge them. Also, keep them out of heat and direct sunlight.

      Make sure the battery is good and that it operates - if so, that's not a bad deal. It's a drone with basic functionality and iti struggles with wind, but it shoots reallly nice video. It's a good starter drone if nothing else - and it's very, very easy to keep your eye on while it's flying.

      good question, Luis. I agree with both of you LOL. The Q500 4k shoots better video, IMHO. But the Mini is newer, easier to get fixed if you need it, easier to take with you (the Q500 is a giant). You may ultimately have trouble getting more batteries or parts for the Q500 since it's been off the shelves for so long. So, the Mini is a safer, more convenient bet at this point.

      Hi Robert - at this point, no. There are more capable drones on the market now, even in that price range. And Yuneec has completely fallen apart for consumer drone owners - I wouldn't count on getting parts for a Q500 if you needed them.

      @@JeffSibelius Thanks for the reply. Would would you recommend for a purchasable drone? I really like the idea of having the camera display on the RC controller instead of having to use your phone plus the RC controller together. If you were to purchase the Q500, what would be the maximum amount that you would be willing to pay? But you're right, there website doesn't have much for replacement parts. This sucks cuz I really like the way it looks and the extra controllers that helps with the angle of recording the video.

    • @JeffSibelius
      @JeffSibelius  4 года назад

      @@robertpolanco1831I really, really wouldn't buy a Q500 at this point at any price. The drone has been discontinued for several years and I really worry that it is essentiall a disposable drone at this point; I just don't know if you can get parts to replace anything that breaks, including batteries.
      If you're really invested in the Q500, call Vertigo Drones to see what their availability of replacement parts is. They are probably the top Yuneec repair company now.
      I love the built in view screen as well. But if thats your priority you really have two choices. Q500 or Typhoon H. Of those two I'd go with the Typhoon H. It's a MUCH more capable drone, it has six motors, a better camera, and is just a more capable drone. Its viewscreen is better as well. Like the Q500 parts may be an issue, but it's a newer drone sohopefully parts won't be as much of a problem. Again, call Vertigo.
      The more I fly the Mavic Air 2, the more I'm impressed with it. And now it is compatible with the Smart Controller, so it gets you away from using a phone . . . at a price, of course.
      Honestly, the best drones you can get would be the Mavic Air 2, Autel Evo, Fimi X8 SE 2020 or Mavic Mini. Probably in that order. If your budget can afford more, the Phantom 4 drone is awesome and you can get the Crystalsky monitor, which is awesome compared to a smart phone. Or you can go with the Mavic 2 zoom or pro; I think the Smart Controller works with both of them.

But I understand that I had to set st10+ In Angel mode. Then camera/nose be like I use before. I have a question. Do you calibrate every time?. Some says that only after firmawere download and If you travell moore than 10 Miles. But how drone find home if not calibrate?. In angel mode, If drone is to far away. Can you set over to home mode?. I bouth this With carbon case and 2 battery+ many other thing.

      @JeffSibelius  8 лет назад

      +teknofil007 If you have flown a Phantom, the Safe mode on the Q500 will feel very strange. I encourage you to get familiar with Smart mode though. You can use this mode to create some videos that you can't do in Angle mode.
      I do not calibrate every time. I calibrate when I do a firmware update for sure. I also calibrate if I go long distances. Calibrating after each flight is unnecessary though. I drove almost 1000 miles away from my last point of calibration and flew without recalibrating, with no problem.
      I typically do a calibration every month or so just to be sure.
      Your Q500 will set its home mode based on where the transmitter is. If you don't lose your signal the quad will return to your transmitter even if you move after you launch. If you lose signal the quad will return to its last known position for the transmitter.
      This happens automatically. You don't have to do anything to set a home position other than establishing your GPS connection when you start the aircraft and transmitter.

      LOL there's nothing wrong with doing that, Winfield. I think you'll feel pretty comfortable with the controls in no time. When you go out for your first flight, just follow these few steps:
      1. make sure you've done your calibrations
      2. pick a day with little or no wind
      3. Keep the aircraft pretty close to you for your first flights
      4. Fly in turtle mode - keep it slow so you have time to react
      5. If you take off in Smart mode, be sure to put the aircraft farther than 26 feet away from you before you take off.
      6. Finally - when in doubt, let go of the sticks. The quad will sit and hover until you regroup and figure out what you need to do.

    Did you have any problem updating to your 4k camera? Does your controller get all the camera options? Just wondering because I just sent my CG0 2 camera to Yuneec in order to upgrade to the 4k camera. I assume everything will work because they didn't say there would be any issues.

      +PintoBlades I didn't have any problem at all. Just plug it in, slide the gimbal onto the aircraft and bind it with the TX. Be sure to pick "CGO3 PRO" rather than CGO3" when you bind it; otherwise you won't see the additional camera controls.
      You are going to LOVE the improvements you see with the new camera.

So yeah, they will send me the 4K and I will bind it like you instructed. Can't wait! I love the way the drone fly's, its great.

      +PintoBlades Did you have the CGO2 or the CGO2+? Either way, make sure your firmware is updated on the TX and the aircraft. If you're using an old version of the firmware, it may not have the CGO3 information included.
      The CGO2 is awful for color rendition. I couldn't even color correct it. Over-saturated, bad bias to the yellow . . . I'm a photographer before I'm a pilot, so that was something I couldn't accept.
      I agree with you. I just love the way the Q500 flies. I also fly a Phantom 3 and in most respects I like the Q500 far more. I've got a Typhoon H on preorder - we'll see how that compares to the Q500 as well.

      +Jeff Sibelius - Hi Jeff, yes it was the Q500+ camera. Firmware was up to date when I got it so hopefully setting up that 4k camera will be a breeze. They said I will receive the firmware with it. Yes, I agree on photography, I am more into the photography portion of it as well, so it's important that my color is correct. I plan on taking it to the mountains and want dependable color. I also might have to have them allow me to remove the 8000ft limit on it because our mountain areas go over 9k feet. One mountain is 13k feet but I won't be on that one much if at all. Mainly around 8k to 8.5K feet. My home sits at 4,657 feet above sea level.

    is it ok to run the gopro app while flying the typhoon G? i heard it is not a good idea due to interference with the wifi

    • @JeffSibelius
      @JeffSibelius  7 лет назад

      I've been looking around for an answer to this, Devon, and I can't find a definiteive answer. Check out the channel Gadget Guru at ruclips.net/user/TheVOGdotNet - some time ago he did some videos on the Typhoon G that were very good, and he may answer that question. I was able to fly the Q500 with the Wizard while using a wifi connection, so I'm guessing that you can, but that's a guess - I don't want to give you inaccurate information.Do me a favor - if you do find the answer to your question, would you mind posting that information here?

    My CGO2 can connect with the remote controller but cannot perform shooting actions, how can I fix it? Thank you

      you mean the CGO2 connects to the drone? So the two devices bind and you can see the view from the camera on the transmitter? But the record button isn't working . . . I'm going to suggest you go to yuneecpilots.com, which is a discussion forum. Post your question there - you've got guys there who take things apart and really get into the systems. I'm afraid I haven't flown a Yuneec in a couple years now. But the guys at yuneecpilots.com should be able to help you.

      @@JeffSibelius You described my situation correctly, ok I'll go to the forum to ask questions, I haven't flown it for several years, and finally thank you for your reply, good luck.

    great videos, what video editing software are you using?

    • @JeffSibelius
      @JeffSibelius  8 лет назад

      +Joe “Hose A” Cerda I use Sony Movie Studio Platinum 13.0, and it's a pretty simple program to use. Movie Studio has 90% of what Sony Vegas has and costs a fraction of the price. The Movie Studio suite comes with Sound Forge Audio Studio, which I use to clean up my narrations, and a dvd creating program in case you want to output to a DVD to watch on TV.
      I bought a copy of Cyberlink's Power Director on a Black Friday sale but haven't yet installed or tested it. This is supposed to be an excellent program as well.

    When your first battery gets low and you land and you put another in. Do you have to recalibrate the quad all over again?

    • @JeffSibelius
      @JeffSibelius  8 лет назад

      +joseph wazocha Hi Joseph - if you calibrated your compass and accelerometer initially, you shouldn't have to recalibrate either unless you travel a long distance or unless you notice the Q500 hovering unpredictably. I went from Texas to Iowa and flew a flight without recalibrating - so you can see this isn't something that has to happen often. I went ahead and recalibrated the compass after my first flight in Iowa, just to be sure, and then again when I returned to Texas. But I go all over Texas without having to recalibrate. The accelerometer will probably need even fewer calibrations than the compass.

      +Jeff Sibelius Your video's were very helpful, way better then many.I just bought mine about a month ago. It's to cold right know to go out and fly it. I'll have to wait for the spring thaw. The thing I don't like about any manual is that it's long drawn out and I'm sure they do it to protect themselves from any law suits. But that's o.k. Keep up the good work. I only asked about when you switch the batterie's out because I wasn't sure if you would lose any data that would be inputed into it.
