"Uneasy Rider" was a hit for CDB in 1973. It really captures the essence of that time. It would never be played on the radio today. It may be a little hard to understand in today's context. "Still in Saigon" is about a Vietnam vet dealing with PTSD and "The Legend of Wooley Swamp" is a metaphysical spooky song.
Was gonna recommend Uneasy Rider, the '73 version. A funny story song...
@@larrystuder8543 Love that one too )
There was a sequel to "Uneasy Rider" called "Uneasy Rider '88". It is even more politically incorrect than the original. It's a funny song too, but in today's world, it would be viewed as "phobic".
yeah i was just gonna suggest they listen to uneasy rider as well glad to see someone beat me to it
+1 for legend of woolly swamp
If you want the late-great Charlie Daniels at his story telling best, Check out the "Legend of Wolley Swamp" and "Uneasy Rider". "Wooley Swamp" has harder guitars for Jay and "Rider" has a very funny tale for Amber. Peace and Love to you and yours.
"Wolley Swamp"...!
Uneasy Rider is good, but Uneasy Rider 1988 is even funnier.
Stoker's Theme (Stroker Ace) is a great one.
And don't forget the sequel to Devil : The Devil Came Back To Georgia
It's credited as by Mark O'Connor, and features Johnny Cash, Travis Tritt, Marty Stuart, and even Charlie Daniels.
And ohhhh yessss...! WOOLEY SWAMP is a MUST!!!
Agreed they should do Wolly Swamp
Great choices!
Was coming to say the same thing. Wooly Swamp still gives me chill bumps.
One of the greatest
RIP CHARLIE.
edit: the legend of the wooly swamp.
'The Legend Of Wooley Swamp' is a great 'story' song.
Love Charlie's voice. One of the best in the genre. You should also do "The South's Gonna Do It" or "Mississippi". But PLEASE do "Uneasy Rider". And also... today (2/26) would have been Johnny Cash's 90th birthday... can you do a tribute to him?
Absolutely the ballad of uneasy rider is a must
Speakin, of Cash, Hurt, he’s better than th original, like Elvis, he made it his own, which, he, Jerry Lee, and, Elvis, use 2 tour 2gether
@@JamesSmith-ti5jc Jay reacted to Hurt early on in the channel's run. It was a cathartic experience for him (as it was for most of us when we first heard it).
@@edallen3662 the original version….
Must do Uneasy Rider
Charlie Daniels Band ..... SIMPLE MAN .....
Charlie Daniels was the ultimate story teller, y'all should listen to Still in Saigon.
Charlie Daniels Band - Simple Man really speaks to how many of us feel
My favorite Charlie Daniels song is "Uneasy Rider". Another story telling song.
Whenever you want Charlie to tell ya another story, Drinking My Baby Goodbye is another faster tempo song, like The Devil Went Down To Georgia.
Jay, if you want to hear Charlie play some killer fiddle you need to listen to his live version of the "Orange Blossum Special" You will definitely not be disappointed!!!
He won't disappointed
He could sure hit orange blossom special.
Charlie Daniels has been around forever, for a long time as a studio musician then a long time as a bandleader
This was my dad’s favorite song who was a long haired country boy who was a Vietnam vet and this song was him to a T! And every time I hear this song I remember us driving around in his 1969 roadrunner with the music loud and windows down! Love and miss you Daddy RIH
I got to meet him once when the band was young and just starting out. They were playing at the local college. After the concert we all sat around and had a sing along and drank a lot of beer. It was so much fun. I got to see him again in concert way after they made it big. He was a great performer. Oh and by the way Jay, the difference between a violin and a fiddle is a violin has strings and a fiddle has strangs... LOL It's all about the genre.
YEAH!!!! a great band - so many hits - so patriotic!!! So hard core country!!!!! Great dance music!! Won many a dance contest to his music - including one at The Diamond Ballroom there in OKC!!!!! His jams in TN were legendary!!!!
Such a strong Christian, too.
Uneasy Rider. Hands down.
1959 Marty Robbins-- El Paso great voice, great song, great story.
If you like the fiddle, you need to check out the band Alabama and their song "If You're Gonna Play In Texas". Great country music and a great toe tapper.
Great band, tons of hits. Dixieland Delight as well.
@@matthewdrake4385 I don't think Alabama can make a bad song. They have so many wonderful ones that I can't pick out a favorite.
My first show was The CDB back in the ‘70s…Hit the stage with South’s Gonna Do It Again and never let up! One great show! RIP, Charlie…best ever!
This is a great song. I love the philosophy in it as well. As a Canadian, it’s songs like this that made me love America and the south.
You ain't Lying, whole different vibe and soul down there.
Sang this in a talent show, when I was in the Army almost 40 years ago.
Also,, Arlo Guthrie "City Of New Orleans"..A True Classic.
Uneasy rider, devil went down to Georgia, still in Saigon, mr d.j., simple man, drinkin my baby good bye etc… so many great songs
You should do "Uneasy Rider" by Charlie Daniels if you really appreciate story telling songs.
That was one of my go to karaoke songs. I know I can't sing so I always did kinda funny songs like Uneasy Rider, Big Balls by AC/DC or I'm Too Sexy by Right Said Fred.
Don't forget uneasy Rider 88, he tells a different story
"Uneasy Rider" - Priceless
I agree very good aong
Great in concert, even towards the end and he had to sit most of the show he still brought it. RIP Charlie.
I absolutely love Charlie Daniels In America. Might be appropriate for todays times.
One of the greatest story tellers of all time! In his later years became a strong Christian and had a couple of Christian albums. Of his old stuff The South Going To Do It Again is a must. 🔥 on the fiddle!
His best story song is " uneasy rider", it's a must.
Also Uneasy Rider '88
I saw Charlie in concert several times. I watched him sawing on that fiddle and jump flat footed up on top of that grand piano and dance on it and never missed a single note on the fiddle. EVERY TIME!
Charlie Daniels was such a great HUMAN! I live about 20 miles from where I live. I’ve driven by the little country store in the middle of nowhere where Charlie grew up and taught himself to play guitar as a kid here in central NC. The wide spot in the road is called Gulf NC and has a tiny post office. This is where Charlie got that strong North Carolina accent. Met him once by chance there and you will never meet a more down to earth humble and gentle man. But on stage, he was a dynamo. Saw him in concert in Greensboro 4 times and every time, even though CDB was not the headliner, he and his band stole the show. Groups such as Alabama ( you should do a reaction to their “My homes in Alabama” bye the way), and Lynyrd Skynyrd were just a couple of the bands. He is so well known for his generosity and kindness, as well as his patriotism. Another song that stands out to me is his “Still in Saigon” which was for Vietnam Vets and the PTSD they face. It’s very moving and tells a great story. Please keep on rocking those great reactions ❤️
I meant to say I live about twenty miles from where he grew up
Charlie was actually one of the first rappers I ever heard. You have to check out his song "Everytime I See Him".
I always paid attention to who the musicians were backing up artists on songs and albums that I liked (although that information wasn't always on the records). I first heard of Charlie Daniels when he was listed as one of the group of musicians on Bob Dylan's 1969 "Nashville Skyline" album. He played bass guitar and guitar on the album. On the biggest hit from the album, "Lay Lady Lay" he and Dylan both play guitar and Charlie McCoy plays bass.
He also played on Bob Dylan's following two albums before releasing his own first album in 1971. It wasn't long before everyone knew who he was :)
The man could play almost anything with strings. Thanks for mentioning how great of a musician he was
Charlie Daniels... good old country boy.. great music.
I have the album. The entire album is Gold.
Charlie Daniels is a LEGEND!! Check out The South's gonna do it again. Alot of good country came out around the time Urban Cowboy came out in 1980. Another great song is Cherokee Fiddle by Johnny Lee
Elvin Bishop sittin' on a bale of hay. He ain't good lookin', but he sure can play!
I made myself watch Urban Cowboy one day and was absolutely floored...what a powerful story!!!
Yes! Charlie is a legend! One of my favorites for sure! Listen to his song “talk to me fiddle” and you’ll understand why he is considered the best of the best when it comes to fiddle music. No one but Charlie could pull off multiple fiddling styles in one song!
Agree with El Paso
Some other story telling country songs are Convoy by CW McCall, Teddy bear and Phantom 309 by Red Sovine, I like Beer by Tom T Hall...
Jerry Reed's Amos Moses is another classic Ballad.
Hank Williams Jr is another country artist that is very cool
Charlie Daniel’s was on those guys that changed country. You should react to David Allen Coe’s “you never even called me by my name”. He’s another country artist that was on the fringe of country
There are a lot of people that do what you guys do, but your channel is the only one I'm subscribed to. I love your channel.
Thank you!
Yep. Me too! Have never subscribed to anyone. So keep it up, God bless you all!
TRUST ME On This Southern Rock Classic,, Blackfoot "Train,, Train"..A MUST HEAR..Truth!!
My very first concert ever was CDB AND BLACK OAK ARKANSAS in Bowling Green Kentucky back in the day got our tickets in advance cost $5.50 a a great time to be alive !
Great choice fun song!!🤘🔥
He was a true legend, no one even came close to him in concert live.
He was the best story teller. Simple Man is another amazing one ❤️
RIP Charlie. A very talented man and a very good man. His Volunteer Jams he put on every year just outside Nashville was a concert packed with A list musician's and groups and proceeds went to charity. I love his music and his poetry. He played a mean guitar too.
It's been years since I heard this song and I thank you for playing it and reminding me how good of a tune it is ❤❤❤
If you want story telling try Marty Robbins, Big Iron or El Paso would be a good start and you will love it. He's the best at that. Also might want to have a country song dedicated time; for example, the 2nd song of your 3 set every Wednesday. Something like your female Friday.
I had the great pleasure of meeting him and shaking his hand. He was a true southern gentleman!
60s and 70s country rocks. Pre-Garth
Yes please do The Legend of Wooly Swamp, awesome story! Honestly the whole album Charlie Daniels Band: A Decade of Hits is pure gold!
The Legend of the Wooley Swamp, Drinkin My Baby Goodbye, Uneasy Rider and Uneasy Rider 88 are CDB story telling songs you should give a listen to. If you want Some of Charlie's magic fiddle then give his rendition of Orange Blossom Special a listen.
This is what you call jukebox music This is the music you would find on the jukebox in the country Bars out in the middle of nowhere Good times good times
My Grandma Loved this song, Lol she was so cool.
If you’re looking for more storytelling country songs Charlie Daniels ‘Uneasy Rider’ is a fun one. You should also try Marty Robbins ‘El Paso’. The Turnpike Troubadours, an Oklahoma Band, have a few good ones ‘The Funeral’, ‘The House Fire’ and ‘The Bird Hunters’. ‘David’ by Cody Jinks is another good one.
Second for Marty Robbins "El Paso'.
Uneasy Rider 88 is good too! May be too much for sensitive people though..
RIP Charlie Daniels
I grew up way back In hills , when I was a young fella I played and sang this song at so so many parties out in the middle of no where . Thanks for stirring up those memories. 🙂
My sister sent me this song a few years back, She said the lyrics summed me up. She ain’t wrong.
This was playing on the jukebox when I first met my ex-wife.🤣
So you wanna hear Jerry Reed's
"She Got The Goldmine & I Got The Shaft"!
😂🤣😂🤣🤢🤮🤧😅
@@lindenarden667 😂 cheers!
I'm pretty much a full on symphonic metal head as far as what I like to sing lead on, but like y'all I LOVE older country because of the storytelling, and of course the steel guitar and fiddle are really nice instruments. :) Love y'all
Charlie is amazing! I feel so fortunate to have seen him the year before he passed away…..RIP Sir!🥰🥰🥰
In his early years Charlie was a session guitar player in Nashville and was requested by Bob Dylan when he recorded in Nashville.
Love all your reactions! I would like to suggest another Pink reaction. Her song Try along with its music video. It is a wonderful song about make a relationship work paired with a phenomenal dance routine that has to be seen to be believed. Love you guys!
Got it!
Folk Music Icon's,, Fantastic Storytelling & A Great Sense Of Humor Run In This Family,, First The Father & Then Followed By His Son,, Arlo Guthrie "The Motorcycle Song"..TRUST ME On This MUST HEAR Classic.
Checking in from Texas. I went form a military style hair cut to hair past me shoulder thanks to Charlie and this song during Covid.
Saw the CBD many times over the decades. The last time, Charlie was alone on the stage and sang Hallelujah. OMG that man had a beautiful voice!
"Tell us another story, Uncle Charlie!"
🪂
Happy Birthday to my mother and Johnny. Cash they share a birthday right down to. The same year !
As a member of a country music/roma /indidigous family of musicians,I was raised on it but left it for the '60s I'm BACK!!!
Love this song from a long haired country girl 😱
The Good Old Boys of Country Music 🌴✌️
Another story telling gem by CDB is "Uneasy Rider"
Also back in the day this was Considered Rock and Roll. The CDB was playing with Marshall Tucker Band. The Allman Bros. Band.
Kshe95 in St Louis a legendary rock station, played Charlie Daniels as much as led Zeppelin
The old stuff has your heart, because it had heart.
This is a legit anthem.
Thank y’all for the reactions!
How can you be that smooth and that rebellious at the same time. That's some song.
The theme song of just about every country boy in eastern Oklahoma, my cousins for sure.
"Legend of Wooly Swamp"...great story telling with rocking music...still gives me chills!
"In America" is arguably their biggest rocker. J will love the guitar work...Amber will appreciate that it still retains its country charm.
On a dare, I sang this at the NCO Club at Patch Barracks in Stuttgart, West Germany in 1982.
I got a standing ovation (lots of drunk people there, and the band wasn't really very good at all) and free drinks for the rest of the night.
The following Monday, the manager of the NCO Club offered us a regular gig on Friday nights. My three friends and I made some good money for the next 12 weeks.
Charlie was a friend (we lived about a half hour from each other) who I loved like a brother. We fought sometimes, and we argued often, but he was my friend, and the world is just a little dimmer with him gone.
I love this song.
Alison Krauss "Ghost In This House"..A True MUST HEAR.
Imagine going to a concert in the 80s and Charlie Daniel's is the opening act? This will always be my favorite concert. Oh I forgot to mention that Alabama was the main act.
Some more "story telling" style folk rock is The Lovin' Spoonful "Did You Ever Have to Make Up Your Mind?", and "Daydream".
Jay and Amber you are a beautiful couple, a family, educators and found a side show to keep you finding love. So good!!!!
"Uneasy Rider' my fav CDB song.
Back in the early 80s, in Kentucky, when I was in elementary school. The old janitor, used to bring his fiddle, to school during lunch time in the auditorium, he'd stand in the corner, and make that thing talk!!
Again released in 1974 ( almost fifty), everything was jumpin in the seventies. Rock, Motown, soul, and Country. Not to mention everything in between.
Blessed to see C D B twice over the years . Trudy and Orange Blossom Special are two song that always get me fired up !!
this was "our runnin' song" when this came out, we'd get to a keggar, and somebody was always throwing this on the car stereo
Rock ON
"Uneasy Rider", "Uneasy Rider 88", "Midnight Moon", man there's so many great CDB songs!
R.I.P. Charlie!
Rewatching this. Always a great choices And yes fiddle in country. Just remember that a violin has strings and a fiddle has strangs. LOL True country is so wonderful.
Saw him 3 times in concert. He was my favorite and made me listen to other country music
CDB, is GR8, like th Eagles, U wont hear a bad tune, Charlie, was FYE 🤩🤩😇
Charlie Daniels band! Enough said.🤠✌️🐴
"Still in Saigon" shows another side of Charlie Daniels, or "Drinkin My Baby Goodbye" Fun stuff!
We lost not only a great musician when Charlie passed away, but also one heck of a person. God Bless Mr Daniels. Rest in Peace, kind sir. We miss you!
I saw Charlie Daniels Band blow The Rollin Stones off the stage ! Along long time ago .
He was such a nice guy...really sweet. He habitually chewed gum on stage, even while singing. Uneasy Rider is a must.
Love you southern girl..and your husband too..61 year old former marine from south carolina
Long Haired Country Boy is a single released from Charlie Daniels Band's 1974 album Fire On The Mountain. During the 1970's, at least in the St. Louis area, Charlie Daniels Band was NEVER played on the country music stations, but rather on the FM rock stations like KSHE 94.7 in St. Louis, and is still played on that station today. I consider CDB, at least in that era, a Southern Rock band rather than Country. CDB had several terrific Southern Rock songs during the 1970's...Uneasy Rider (still played on KSHE in St. Louis), Birmingham Blues, Caballo Diablo, The South's Gonna Do It, Dixie On My Mind, Saddle Tramp, Trudy, High Lonesome, Million Mile Reflections, The Devil Went Down To Georgia, Blue Star, Whiskey. Those of you only familiar with CDB's music from the 1980's on should check out their 1970's work.
Charlie was the man, I grew up on Charlie. Knee smackin’ music.
The Band's song "Daniel and the Sacred Harp" is a good one.
