The "I identify as a Prius" bumper sticker is priceless.
You can put this car in reverse and hit the gas and the Unimog will still pull it up the hill.
I drove a 406 back in the 70’s, we called our lowest working gear the coffee break gear as the truck moved so slowly you could go get a cup, then come back and the truck had barely moved. Lol
You guys should run the Unimog up to Prudhoe Bay in mid February. Would be a cool series. I know you just did one but this would be like a walk in the park in the Unimog.

I built my first Unimog 14+ years ago ( see unimog wall climb or I turned a unimog overland rig into a rock crawler on RUclips ) and have been hooked on them since. The ultimate off road rig.

Oh man i still love those First Gen 4door Rav4s. They were all the time constant AWD not like todays cheap FWD bias slip detection systems. And the ground clearance was and still is amazing. And reliable as all hell.
I have a 2010 V6 AWD RAV4 Sport and love it, it was bought new and has 193,000mi with minimal problems. I find the AWD system to be just fine in any of the conditions I've driven it (certainly beyond what most people or sane people do), and if needed, I can actually lock the center diff to 25mph. That really helps in the CO and NM snow in the mtn's. Not sure if the older ones can do that. As I understand it, all models, even the older ones have open diffs front, center, and rear, with not even a limited slip rear (or front) available OEM or even aftermarket (Quaife etc.)! THAT is really absurd as it's probably the #1 selling SUV of all time. I would have certainly paid extra for LSD's front and rear in addition to the OEM center locker or pay to have a Quaife installed rear and front if possible.

I'd love to see a super built jeep vs this awesome Unimog for the crown of ultimate offroader. Bleepin' Jeep vs. Couch on some serious trails could be amazing content
Although that would be great content I can tell you the after building 2 Unimogs and 20+ Jeeps including rubicons, the unimog is a no compromises off road monster. I also have a hmmwv at my shop that can not hold a candle to a MOG.
You guys should get a Pinzgauer to test as well.

I'm glad a few other people saw the knot in that rope. That is poor rope protocol. Knots in ropes reduce their load capacity and become a breaking point.

I like Unimog's but I'd want one of the old cheap ones with the backhoe attachment that are more along the lines of farm equipment.
Well, this was as exciting as watching grass grow. So what if the back part of the "On-X" course was icy, this thing will tromp that course when it is dry, it will tromp it when it is muddy. The conditions you mentioned might be the only time that Unimog MIGHT actually have a challenge out there at the ranch.
In mountain areas they often have chains for snow removal, wonder how much they cost (or tires)...

This Unimog has a CTIS, putting tracks on it would be a waste.

My Unimog 406 had a crawl ratio of over 4000 to 1!! in the lowest gear it would cover around 80yds in 1 hour!!

Unimog vs Oshkosh MTVR!!!
Cool test but wouldn't be any competition at least for pulling. The MTVR weighs about 30,000lbs (for a Mk23). It' just a much heavier cargo vehicle. Offroad wise the MTVR is very capable, but it still has the same 46" tires (although it has 6), with double the weight. Just not as nimble by any means, and not as much articulation with it's TAK-4 ISS.

This is the one very exotic thing I would buy if it was rich. Put a side by side in the back and some camping gear...disappear for weeks into the woods.

As far as downsides, the size is small compared to the cost.
2 things. 1 why is there a know in your kinetic rope? 2 why didn't you use a y harness to keep the rav more centered behind?

If you have to do donuts to have fun with this then you're spoiled. I would have fun even just detailing the exterior with my toothbrush in just my underwear in -30 degree weather. That's how cool this truck is to me.

Essentially dragging about 1200 lbs across some snow, I'm pretty sure my old GX would have have no trouble doing that. Funny choice of experiments. Cool Unimog though, I'd rather learn more about that. Have fun untying the knot in that rope lol
