Wow! What a truck. Yep, we can call it a truck, officially without concern. I used to build expensive toys for rich people - they would either never get used or they'd be abused. On the upside, you can easily just tow another vehicle as a spare. Or a house, and just decide you want to live wherever you get into trouble. I used to live in New Guinea, and there's a story there of trying to connect two villages by road. The problem was that one of the villages was full of folks who had never seen a Jeep. Each village started cutting a track towards the other, with the distant one using only a description of a Jeep, and a description of the kind of track it used. The end result was a trail with each wheel line taking different paths. Sometimes one wheel track was twenty feet higher than the other. Sometimes a little further apart. Now the story goes that they solved the problem by just cutting two poles and carrying a Jeep to the next village to drive it around for a bit so everyone could see what they were dealing with. But I'm an Australian, and any story like that can be taken with a grain of salt but I always wonder why people don't consider pulling things apart and moving them in more manageable chunks when they become inconsolably stuck. I have a German Military 1300L and I collect a restore M series US military trucks and we have gone on trail rides with other members of our club, lots of military Jeeps and other M series 6x6 trucks dueces etc. We were driving up this small mountain on a road that was still all there it had a couple very small holes in it but really nothing when we got to the top you would have thought we climbed Mt Everest lots of the guys with the American trucks were locked in 6 wheel drive and the jeeps were in low range 4x4 and they were hoping that we never went anything as rough as that was. One of the guys asked me what gear I ran my Unimog in through the "rough" stuff and I told him I stayed in 3rd gear and never even thought about using 4 wheel drive. One word of advice is that if YOU own a Unimog and you go 4 wheeling with other people (Unless there is another Mog there) you will be on your own in case you ever do get stuck, because there is not another vehicle that will ever get close to you!
Yep, a dream vehicle. I had an old unimog when I lived in Germany. Now I live in Utah and drive a very civilized LR4 (disco4) luxury. Unimogs are in a league of their own.
A old 4wd solid axle Toyota truck with a 22RE is the best doomsday/apocalypse truck. It's one of the easiest engines to work on, has minimal moving parts compared to a 6 or 8 cylinder, can run without water cooling, can run off of 83 octane equivalent fuels, can run on 2 cylinders, still very reliable over 300K miles.
And where is the proof that the Toyota truck can do what the Unimog can do? As long as nothing breaks and the Unimog runs, it is the better choice. Of course it is much more expensive to use, but also more comfortable than a real old truck.
Shtf you stand correct. But me, I'm a rich cut throat thief/robber/businessman/crony capitalist then I need to show me pissing power, and how else to do it best than to roll into town in a metallic red overlander setup costing half a mil or more.
Wow what an amazing machine, set up for rear passengers as well for a family. This has to be the best Mog I've ever seen, extremely well thought out. Amazing and beautiful!
What many always forget to mention is that the Unimog can be used as an actual workshop at any time and anywhere. You can use all air pressure power tools (they are even cheaper to buy than the electricity-based ones). So you can restore your car in the middle of nowhere if you want and you don't run out of fuel :)
For many, many years, my mantra has been ' If in doubt, Walk It Out'! Don't try an be a 'hero' and say 'Yeah, I should be able to do this.'. Thank you for sharing this Awsome Mog-mod!
From my view since early childhood (proudly owning some SIKU- and Matchbox-Models of a Unimog), the proportions of this version are p-e-r-f-e-c-t :) Too many people think `offroad` in the beginning, but then they totally overload their `Little Mog` by installing giant cabins with nonsense luxury inside... Congratulations Matt. A superb effort and project. I see you and your Missus look to be sharing wonderful experiences together and I’m hopeful you bring some decent kids into the world because we sure need them right now. A question. I’m wondering if this is a lifelong type hobby like some or is it genuinely an insurance policy considering what appears to be an ever increasingly unpredictable and untenable world. Do you work in the typical daily grind or have you gone into your own business venture to afford what is a solid bit of kit amongst other things. Obviously generally speaking. “... driving over to Tassie”. I’m sure he meant that literally... 😳😳😳
😆
Beep beep.
I’m sure he pumps the psi up for that trip. 300 outta do’er.
@@wallerwolf6930 your response to my original comment doesn't even make sense. I guarantee you're going to struggle in life.
Shtf you stand correct.
But me, I'm a rich cut throat thief/robber/businessman/crony capitalist then I need to show me pissing power, and how else to do it best than to roll into town in a metallic red overlander setup costing half a mil or more.
Danm jaw almost hit the floor when he roiled out the old $25 kitchen cooker! Very cool build tho great vid Ronnie keep it up fella!
😆😆👍
When I win the lottery...
Ronnie, I would love to see an hour of this truck going through and over every kind of terrain. Regards from 🇨🇦
From my view since early childhood (proudly owning some SIKU- and Matchbox-Models of a Unimog), the proportions of this version are p-e-r-f-e-c-t :) Too many people think `offroad` in the beginning, but then they totally overload their `Little Mog` by installing giant cabins with nonsense luxury inside... Ej ! This car is quite different, well done, Sir... I wish you a lot of miles, full of joy and fun !
This has to be the most badass personal use vehicle I've ever seen.
Hands down the most impressive setup I’ve ever seen! What a beast! There’s not much out there that could stop it that’s for sure sure.
When the Zombie Apocalypse comes I'm Hitching a Ride with this Guy
Hey bud how wealthy are you?
"Yes."
The showed a clip of him backing it into his “shop” which was a commercial sized enormous storage shop ;..I paused and. Noticed not only the new KTM 690 on the back of the rig but the amount of toys and equipment in thst shop!!?? 😳 yeah he does well.
Like that you went through everything and pulled out/ opened everything, very thorough. Thank for another great vid. Love this beast. For all those complaining. Get off your butts and go build or buy what you want.
Ronny is really shocked by this unimog. Some of his face reactions are priceless
I have wanted to convert a unimog for about 20 years. This guy has fulfilled my dream. Lucky bastard.
This rig should be mid 300k or higher, cost more than my actual house 😂 but still wouldn't hesitate to get one if I had the means for it.
Id pay 300k for it if i had the need.
Its forsalw on gumtree for 350 thousand
@@jarradmaate7883 If i had the need right now id sell the house and travel, in the future maybe, but its good to see other options apart from landcruisers/patrol and caravans.
Its for sale for 350k on unidans website
Yeah thats the way mate. Id do it on the future forsure. Ill stick to the patrol now
Awesome.. I drove these with NZ Army... nice toy!... thanks from across the ditch👍🇳🇿
Thanks Ronny, I really enjoyed checking out this epic rig. The reverse Osmosis water system would be a game changer. It would be rad to see a similar on the fly tyre inflation kit made for the average 4WD....
Only live once Matt. Thats the real deal for gettin out n especially gettin back! Beautiful custom idea'd Machine. The lounge chairs r sweet!
Awesome work as usual, great rig Matt. Some really fantastic ideas, would be super cool for some ultra remote touring. Can certainly tell you were jealous of the rig Ronny
The winch alone probably cost more than I spent for my 1st gen 4runner when I started my build. This guy might have benefited from watching Ronny’s segment on what you actually need to go 4 wheel driving. That being said the thing is pretty awesome he definitely thought of all the possibilities and has the cash flow to keep it operating.
this is not really necessary to have, but damn I want it so bad haha
it is absolutely necessary to have.
@@juniorarcher no shit right
you could not possibly be more wrong, bud - i've never seen anything more necessary in my entire life.
I’d be interested to know more about the owner’s educational background & what previous technical experience he has. He appears to have a beautiful natural curiosity & intuition and has an endearing, humble personality. Obviously, he’s passionate about his incredible rig. He should be profoundly proud. My son graduated from The New England Institute of Technology in Rhode Island. He’s a total car geek (In an adorable & impressive manner. He’s really a genius. ). This vehicle will blow his mind. My son’s future is bright & beautiful. I just wish he would let me into it. Don’t even get me started on his lego building skills. No kits needed. His imagination & spatial reasoning skills are exceptional & ever expanding. Some of his Lego creations were museum quality. I am super impressed with this man’s innovation, dedication & joy of life. He imagined it. He built it. Now, he is enjoying the fruits of his labor. Well done, sir. Well done.
Sounds like a good engine pulling 8-9 ton fully loaded only using 25l per 100km,not much more than a LS Patrol..haha
I wish I had one just like this. great unimog fitted with every thing you might have needed. great set up on suberb unimog. this is what unlimited travel one can experience. I am kind of jealous. well done mate.
The brute force approach to camping :)
Unimog a German made truck is very powerful and suitable for rough roads.
Thank you for sharing the video.
Unimog's rule, OK. What a beast!
Greetings from Germany! Those Unimogs have one major myth: they never get stuck!! Happy offroading!
Now THIS is the definition of NOT FUCKING AROUND! I was laughing throughout the whole video by how impressed i am with this rig! What an absolute weapon! Ronny, this thing makes our 79's look like fuckin Hyundai Excels mate! Best modified yet!
Out of the stuff on this truck. The projector for movies made me the most jealous.
$300k rig and a $25 watch. What a legend.
Ronny... desalination, wow! 6k inverter, wow! Air columns, wow! Talk about a bugout rig! Well considered for sure... a midwestern guy living the AU dream it sounds?
Ok. This is by far my ultimate rig. Watched every second. Thanks Ronnie! SUBSCRIBED!!
The thing about a doomsday truck is that if we do hit doomsday, at a certain point probably very quickly, you'll be forced to abandon it to save yourself.
ISC Rigging pulley, will definitely be strong enough for your needs. Light enough as well!
True ancestor of today RVs, the legendary Unimog 💪💪💪
Wow, Wow! This by far exceeded my expectations when I clicked on the video.
The best demonstration ever of how to cancel any "risk" that usually comes with an adventurous journey. Full control comes with a high grade of loneliness.
Unimog is the best 4X4 at least since 1951! And it will continue to be..
I’ve never seen Ronnie taken aback so many times. This is a great video. This is the coolest truck I’ve seen, but even Ronnie seems impressed.
I’m a little older but questions of adventure always arise when I see UNIMOGS. They are always associated with success in my mind and what part did the Unimog play in your own development. Well done for bringing us this fine chap and remarkably capable, any mission ready vehicle. Favourite video for quite some years.
Put simply...... Best Mog I've ever seen - not a single thing I'd do better or differently ❤❤❤
Beast of a truck. Thanks for the walk around.
A lot of guys in the States do this to our Stewart & Stephenson M1078 but not at this level, but it does the truck to get to the snowy rocky mountains, ocean and any overland activity. Cool.
I am so impressed! You can be off the grid for a really long time, diesel limited.
Love the Unimog fellas. Probably the best set up so far. Well done! 🤠
getting the spare tire down will be the easy part getting the old tire up will be the challenge
Not too bad, if does have a crane on the rear for loading/lifting the motorcycles onto the carrier.
Has a winch front and back, you can pull it up or rig it to a tree with the winch.
@@willtricks9432 And when you're nowhere near a tree?
I assume he'd use the crane we saw on the back...
@@koitorob Pull it up on to the winch.
What a weapon. Ronny looked very envious of all the luxuries in it.
I love it, it's perfect for my life💖 I started to weep a little when it got to the desalination system👍
The difflock dial definitely confused them both there for an uncomfortable seconds or two😂. Great truck!
This guy needs to be on the next trip you do!
The presenter is ridiculous awkward and I kept thinking I’d switch off, but the vehicle is so interesting it’s got me completely hooked. The dude has thought of literally EVERYTHING. Absolutely every eventuality has been catered for.
I saw your comment the presenter probably thought he was just going to answer questions and wasn't in the mood to make a whole video by himself and perform
Ronno when we spoke in Moab I told you next time you came to the states I would take you to the Rockies
I just put up a 30 minute video on my channel to show you exactly the track I was speaking of
Wow, hats off to that fellow, its a whole lot of everything he wanted in a truck.
Best off-road vehicle I have ever seen thought of everything
Hey Ronny, have been binge watching your channel as I'd like to tour Australia as apart of my bucket list. Thank you for all the help and info for the newbies out there like me. I purchased an Isuzu Dmax and would love to see one on your Modified Episodes. Once again thanks mate for making all this info free and available to anyone!
No problem mate thanks for the feedback 👍
Thanks for sharing Matt, great truck!
This is the ultimate vehicle by far for extended travel around Australia. Well setup and thought out. Lots of water compared to fuel storage tho.
That thing is awesome , I’m jealous .
So fun , amazing and incridible to drive the unimog vehicle on the road.i really like it. Good place to test your truk unimog.good vidio
I work at 450$/month and I can't even afford the iPad on the dash to watch this video with. You guys in the first world are lucky.
where you from?
@@g.b.5125 Iran
First world but still can’t afford a basic 4WD!
Hey Bud don't feel bad this is not the average American guy at all we paid taxes and our slaves and give away all our military equipment
Most Americans in California or ride a bicycle and most don't have $500 in the bank
Great Truck, can't believe he doesn't have a full on Roo Bar up front...Thx for the review.
enjoyed it ronny mate, really liked the live concept too, laughed my ass off, id really be interested, in you doing a live modified episode .
artemazing, this is fit me, 2023 i will trip from Indonesia to Germany(Aachen) with my daughter, i am so happy i crossed this youtube channel and see this..i hope by time, i can manage to have it.
This mog is freaking amazing!
So far the best thought overland vehicle I've seen. Great machine!
Doomsday will most probably come along with oil shortage. So there's that
If you’re a top tier prepper, you can make your own bio diesel.
If you are savvy you can make a reactor to crack plastic back to a gas and then distill it back to diesel as well
A doomsday get away vehicle is about getting to a DESIGNATED spot, not roaming the earth for years on end....
what a bit of kit, always loved the unimog,,but the defender is all we have😁👍 brilliant program
The millionaires RV....when your family is rich.
Even with money, that was a LOT of work!
@blob blob Maybe because it's highly unusual for someone so young to own something so expensive that is generally used a plaything. I get your point, though...there are young and very successful people out there...just not that many.
@@TedKidd Almost all the work is done by UniDan in QLD. No cheap, but they know what they are doing. With that said, you can get a bare bone mog for around $20K thats onl done a few hundred Ks. So its a good project vehicle if you want to do it yourself...
@@Sethjxl even just thinking about the DESIGN part of the work is exhausting...
@@TedKidd For sure, so much you can do with the platform.
Have a quick look at www.unidan.com it's pretty impressive what they do with those trucks. I met the owner on Fraser Island at the start of the year, top bloke and he works on some huge trucks (8x8 oshkosh was there at the time).
The Unimog is such a cool truck. I just like that there are enough scratches in the paint to show that it does get used like it is built for.
Sitting on top of my Ute to have reception to watch this
You should do a video on my rig. L200. Fully loaded with Tesco plastic bags topped to the brim with Greg’s pasties, Pringles, bottle of grouse and a dozen corona. Been lifted and off-road for years. No wheels or anything, on logs in the bottom field. Passenger seat coverts into a flat seat. Load bed collects water and converts it into green water. Loads of other mods too numerous to mention. Proper job.
Wow, what an amazing weapon!
Love the scratches on the cab - this is not just a showtruck. Seems very well thought out as well, and the offroad capability of a Unimog can´t really be questioned. Awesome stuff! Just sorry you had a perfect vehicle to start with, and then someone destroyed it by moving the drivers seat to the wrong side ;). I´m so jealous we can´t really go exploring like you guys where I live.
