Can't say enough about Japan after living there 2 years. Easy to see how Juha really enjoys working with Toyota. And anyone that does donuts in a tractor on the ice can be my friend. Also, Akio Toyoda is probably to coolest CEO of any company. Can't remember another guy who was so engaged in his company's racing program. And his enthusiasm is infectious.
This is a great interview by Dirtfish and superb move by Toyota. Juha is a legend with perhaps more experience than anyone else in the sport. What a win this is for the team. Can’t wait to see JML in the ST185
I was at Sutton Park back in the 80's, stood in the area where the cars gathered before heading to the start line a bit further up. A car came into the park, we couldn't see it but we could hear it and it was going fast. There was an old Ford Transit parked up on the side of the road and this car came hammering round, taking avoiding action and going up a small bank to avoid the van, slamming his brakes on about 10m before the last car in the line and stopped perfectly. It was Juha in his 205 T16.
What a team they make with every one of them so important and respected. From the management, the drivers, the mechanics, the cooks! Everyone has their own role to play, and each one plays that role to their best. Wishing all the team, in both championship's, modern and classic an incredible 2025.
This is such a brilliant, hard core, old school move by Toyota. The absolute legend, together with J-M oozing humility, decency and cooperativeness. May i say, totally anti-Hyundai in the best kind of ways. Says a lot about TGR culture. What a great 2025 it will be!
Juha back, that is so cool! Somebody we were all rooting for back in the 80’s and he’s just as chilled now. I bet the team are pumped to be working more with him.
my father actually was building his house with juha's brother. he doesnt live far away from my current home either. i could go some day and say hello :D
I aways enjoy your interviews and programmes. Always factual but fun as well. Living in England we don't get the WRC here anymore, but we do get some good championship rallies and my favourite. Historic. I seem to remember Colin saying he lived in Trentham in stoke on trent and watching the RAC come through Trentham Gardens. We used to watch the servicing before they went into the stage. Great days. I live in Cheadle in the Staffordshire moorlands and went to see different rallies all over the country from the late 60s and the much missed rally show at Chatsworth House. Keep the good work up lads. I'm 72 now and don't get to see many rallies now. So following dirtfish is good for keeping up with the rally scene. Best wishes. Steve.
When you get 2 people passionately arguing different points of view it's very informative and provokes lhe listener into looking deeply into a subject. You two guys did that brilliantly and also very entertainingly. Sadly missing this kind of debate elsewhere . . . .
There was a change in strategy in the Toyota Team in Japan 2024. The Manufacturer's Championship requires a long term perspective and winning rallies give an immediate effect with gratification....at high risk. I think putting Juha Kankkunen is going to bring back a better balance between winning events and winning the Manufacturer's championship in a manner that is not completely exhaustive and tiering for the drivers. 🎉🎉🎉🎉
Hi, I’m interested in your comment but don’t really know what you mean. Can you elaborate on the strategy Toyota had this season and what made the drivers more tired? What would a more balanced strategy look like? Thanks
Toyota's problem was the sunday points and when two fastest dudes drove only part time they were not so interested winnings points as much as winning rallies? Rovanperä ofc would took big points in FInland without that famous rock. Then Ogier made odd mistakes which he ain't known for.
@@rileyf8036 It wasn't answer for you, I didn't understood Robert either. Just my 5cents why it went so tight between manufacturers. Evans was the Toyotas only condeder this year for driver championchip, he just didnt deliver. Ogier was plan-b at the end :D
@@3M46DN1M Ok gotcha. Yeah it was kind of a mess for them but not really surprising given the circumstances. Next year will be interesting because if Kalle is back and Evans has a better season they will be hard to beat. I wonder what will happen with Taka.
Ohhhhh Wow How Nice To see THeeeeee MAN** back and such a Ledge*** In Rallying Too** Whos Next Mr Alen** I wonder>????? haha Tc Uk Thanks Dirt Fish*** yiuve made a Old Man/Fan Very Happy Wityn Such a Indepth Interview
Love kankunan legend. If like you Say one person isn't bigger than the team (kalle). How can you say one person ie team principal is bigger than the team?
The most crazy thing about this is the last manufacture that Juha drove for in the world rally championship was Toyota main competitor Hyundai in 2003 in the accent
If you do a "vodcast", you should do it on a rally that goes through a "vodka-country" and make a drinking game out of it... This will be the best episode! :-P
Colin is talking cobblers. There are different styles of leadership and you need to choose the style for the situation. You need to set the 'directing' style he favours alongside collaborative, coaching and empowering styles and you need to be able to employ all styles to achieve success.
Yeah, but Kalle already took one for the team (covering Ogier instantly) and made marvelous job. Japan might been in original plan? They want that Rovanperä will continue, so better be flexible when Kalle is too.
Because today it's a no-show brand with rather boring cars. I would give the "top team of the 80s" title to Audi though, but Delta was the most badass car.
@@tapio_m6861dude, Lancia was winning since the 70s, come on! 10 times world champion - Audi 1 time. Lancia was THE Rally make! Sadly they really let the ball down on the sport but nonetheless: Fulvia HF, Stratos HF, 037, Delta S4, Delta HF Integrale Facts.
that single minded-ness that Colin mentioned in team management didnt work for Skoda in the early 2000's. Not wanting to invest in development cost them good results
Interesting about team orders; I think they missed the chance to implement them a few times this season, that would have given Elfyn more points.......
David is like my ex wife argumentative always thinks he’s right and has to have his say even if he’s wrong he thinks his right a true pain in the arse and difficult to watch sad really
There is soo much humility and modesty in the Jula Kankkunen's words that he speaks. His communications are so clear and unambiguous!

"Everybody is important", and that's why this man is the champion and the leader that he is.
Juha Kakunen is one of the very best 4 times world rally champion it is very nice to see him back 👍
Thanks Toyota
he also was the first one to achieve 4 times championship :)

How legendary of them to have had Tommi, Jari and Juha in senior roles. Hopefully he gets a c'ship in 2025

Juha Kankunen the GOAT of the African plains. A legend. Cant wait to see him back in Kenya
Juha Kakunen is My childhood Toyota connection...Beautiful Memories .Safari 🇰🇪
The legendary pairing is back!

Juha is a legend!
The Celica man is back!
Legends never die Juha is proof of that i realy cant find enough words that one of my rally icons still doing what he loves to do.
Welcome back to Toyota I interacted with him during his days with TTE During Safari Rally in 🇰🇪 Kenya!!!
Right man for the job. He might be old, but he's the right concept, mentally, feeling and spirit .That's important
Truly pleasant and humble man... Met him at a parc fermé back in '99.

Love Toyota
A battle involving Celicas, Subs, Lancias, Peugeots, Cosworths, Evos... This is the best time to be alive!
I think historic rally series might be one of the very best series to follow due to this rule change.
With Kankkunen at the helm of Toyota's WRC team, next season is going to be promising...!
GRT is a great team!!
Congratulation to all champs!🏆🏆🏆🏆
The smoothest driver ever in rallying.
LEGEEEEEEEEEND!!!!! Did you see the concentration levels when he was watching Evans in the final stage??
You feel the pure passion for the sport.
Great team 👍
Juha's looking really well for his age.
Only 65
Great work Dirt Fish! ❤
Probabilmente la Toyota Celica ST 185 è l'auto da rally più bella mai fatta
Good choice Toyota 💯
I saw him win the championship what driver good luck

If Juha regrows the 'stache it'll guarantee the WCC
Where can I sign the petition? 😂
Juha, my main moustache role model, way to few moustaches in the WRC these days.
I just ❤ ST 185
Great interviews and conversation! Two is better than one in this scenario, and Colin you're wrong...imho.

Interesting decisions 👌 good to see jula back in sport. I agree with Colin on team structure 😊
Legend!
Great interviews, thanks! When is the calendar for the historic championship announced?
Juha Kankkunen is a true legeng. Ai can't wait when 2050 Kalle Rovanperä is Toyota team principal... 😅
Kankkunen is to come but I am to decide when.
It will be nice to see that celica back out competing again, jar mati will be class in old Toyota overalls
Jari-Matti :)
Jar Jar-Matti Binks

taka in the background 😅
Colin,Colin - you are so old-fashioned with case #KR69 ;)
Col we love you, but David is right.
In this case vod is great cause you have rally cars in the back
Adamo wouldn’t sack Kalle, but he’d make sure that Japan is one of the rallies in his contract.

I really hope Janne Ferm is Sami Pajaris new co driver.
Finnish mindset leading toyota team is working and finnish mindset it would be hard to take orders to dictator.
Why does nobody ever mention Lancia .
Surley they were the best team back in the day
Too many dirty arrangements for the winners of the races, too often the fastest person was not allowed to win.

it could be. Hope they can lift their Rally program and branding to new level
Cesare Fiorio was mentioned as one good team principal.
BTW, where's that legend Tommi Makkinen ?? What happened to him ???
Came, conquered and wanted to stepback
that single minded-ness that Colin mentioned in team management didnt work for Skoda in the early 2000's. Not wanting to invest in development cost them good results
Ive got a yen for toyota rem the stickers 👍
ruclips.net/video/dPbwUIKkXro/видео.html Random Takamoto Katsuta appears 😄

so if its based on the 92 car does this mean the bigger restrictor on the turbo and 380bhp??? hahahahaha
ooooooh, question answered, 380bhp, tremendous!!!!
Kankkunen means hangover in finnish😂
Tuomi means gay
Tuomi (Finnish) = Bird cherry (English)
Kankkunen (Finnish) = Hangover (English)
And gay = happy (English)
🥲🥲🥲❤
will more manufactures come in now since they have removed this stupid hybrids?
Beh; Toyota miglior team.... e Lancia Martini dove la mette il grande KKK?
It’s not going to work
Why shouldnt it work🤔🤔

So annoying. I hope he discontinues with dirtfish and someone cool is there instead
That older Man dont understand if Finnish🇫🇮🇫🇮🇫🇮 guy say something he Will do that.
