      Easily the best Baseball franchise of the 16-bit era. Felt like they had a monopoly and even though these were Genesis exclusive. Only thing is like most old sports games that don't lean heavily into arcade style gameplay these don't hold up quite as well.

      Bummer man. My 21st birthday was depressing. As I lived with a Mormon family who didn't allow alcohol in the house. So I went and bought a Mickey's 40oz and drank alone outside in the carport at night in the dark. That is a night I will never forget. Sigh....

    This is a very sensible list if only for RBI and Ken Griffey. I grew up in a small town and we would hold ‘tournaments’ with RBI Baseball 2 with friends and family. I recently acquired a CIB version of that game and showed it off on Facebook and the response from everyone (including people I didn’t even know played this game) was incredible.

    Baseball Stars on the NES has a special place in my heart, as my brother and I played the heck out of it. We were big into rotisserie baseball at the time, and we would put the teams from our league in and play and sim it for some added fun. Ken Griffey jr baseball actually does have all the rep players just not their names. It also lets you edit their names and I remember going through my baseball cards at the time and updated as many players as I could. I probably had close to 75% of the real names in the game. Let my friend borrow it and when I got it back the save had been wiped. I was devastated lol. Definitely the best baseball game on SNES.

    • @johnhancockretro

    • @illzeeski
      @illzeeski 3 года назад

      i had done the same, but i completed 100% of the names. that was lots of time going through the news paper and year book stats section, and entering names. and of course players had been traded or sent to AAA, so that made it even more fun, but it was worth it. easier to get hyped when you hit a grand slam with the real player name. i checked a few months ago, and unfortunately from battery degredation only about 9 teams had the names left.

    I know this is an unpopular opinion, but I absolutely loved NES Baseball from Nintendo (I'm honestly probably one of the only people that do these days). I love how simple it is, I love how casual it is, i also love the cute cartoony little player sprites on the field. It's not the best baseball game by a long shot, but I still really enjoy it, I have the Famicom version myself. Another favorite of mine is Tommy Lasorda Baseball for Sega Genesis since it plays a nice fast-paced game and feels arcade-y to me.

    Bases Loaded 2: The Second Season on NES is my all time favorite baseball game. It was ahead of it’s time with the strategies and player algorithms that really played a part in the game. Knowing when to sub within your bullpen was an integral part to winning 75 of the 125 games needed to advance to the playoffs. Also the behind the mound camera view was outstanding for offense and defense. The players would actually have a fight if the pitcher hit the batter too many times. Overall my favorite baseball sim.

    All of the games featured in this video are great baseball games for various reasons. But one older and stats-based game I fondly remember and played a lot was Pure-State Baseball for the Commodore 64. I later added one of the season expansion disks and the stadium disk. It wasn't much to look at, but offered a lot in strategy and the option to build your own players and teams. At the time, I managed an Electronics Boutique store in Texas and decided to have some fun at work by making an EB team with me and my staff as players, and displaying games on auto-play in the store; my district manager, however, was not amused...eh, supervisors.

      His team was the Pirates, with Jay Bell, Bobby Bonilla, Barry Bonds, LaVierrie, Andy Van Slyke, Doug Drabek, Merced, John Smiley. Geez it's games like this that is the whole reason I remember players from this far back I was probably 9 years old at the time.

      @@cwshumate914 I remember the braves of that time slightly too because of them playoff games. My brother would be watching them and they were some great games. Geez let me think.... Pendleton, Glavin, Avery, Justice, Sid Bream strictly based on the mustache how could you forget that thing, Ron Gant...and in sure more I'm just forgetting right now. I believe that was the year they played the Twins in the world series, I could be wrong. Geez I just realized I can think of more players in 1991 when I was 9 than I could tell you playing right this second. I haven't followed baseball much outside of the Royals going to the WS in 14 and 15 because we are Royals fans being from Kansas City but let's be honest it was way more fun playing with the Pirates of that time period than the Royals lol.

    Sega’s World Series ‘99 is my favorite arcade baseball game. Very fast paced and I love the flip lever for swinging the bat. Unfortunately it never got a home port so you would either have to find an arcade cabinet or emulate it.

    My favorite baseball game (16 bit) is MLBPA Baseball on SNES. I still play it from time to time. It also has fun cheat codes like rubber field (the ball bounces super high) and frozen field (the ball glides around with little to no bounce).

    Triple Play Gold is one I still fire up from time to time on my Genesis. I remember finding several hidden players using the Create a Player feature. I unlocked Nolan Ryan, Babe Ruth, Ty Cobb, Satchel Paige and Cy Young. I just got into The Show on my Xbox Series X and I’m digging it. This is the first time I’ve actually started a season since MLB2K9.

      Also was a big fan of world series baseball on the Saturn. It was more of a traditional baseball game at the time and the Cleveland Indians were just a power house. Albert Belle hitting bombs!

    I remember this one game called "Hardball" that I was just hooked to back when I was a kid. I remember you could customize team logos like, by hand and stuff.. I made a halfway decent Pirates "P" logo for a 12 year old 😅
    "Baseball Stars" was very good, too for, I think, the NES. They had a sequel, az well. You could sign free agents and player attributes were included.
    Another long long-time favorite of mine was the "Bases Loaded" series. Fun fun game..
