RBI was really fun, but Baseball Stars was the best. Way before its time. Custom player names and ability to upgrade players on your team. Best of all was ability to play a season with stats being tracked. I believe that was a first. Awesome graphics are nice but if those animations get in the way of the player moving naturally where you want them it is sort of useless. Super intuitive as well to dive, climb wall to rob a HR or make a super hard throw from 3rd to 1st. Only downside was the dreaded blinking red light on start up and losing hours of work to get your team good

Anyone remember the huge difference between Bases Loaded 1 and 2 on Nintendo in the late 80's? Both games were fun, but bases loaded 1 took almost a hour in a half to play. Sometimes more then that. Just because it took about ten seconds for the catcher to throw the ball back to the pitcher after every single pitch! Haha, as a kid I didn't mind. Before there were memory cards, I just had pen and paper to log down each individual stat on my team. Now the memory chips are built in the system. PlayStation 2 and 3 baseball is really cool. Gets the player involved in every aspect of the game. Such as trading players, testing the free agent market for available players, scheduling promotion days for the fans, checking out the progress in the minor leagues, adding concession stands etc. Probably why I never get tired of my 2008 MLB game. Had it for atleast a decade or so. Played over 11 seasons. I stick to 2008 because I believe it's one of the years where the game was still real. Not now to players complaining they only make 20 million a year, and still have the gull to go on strike! One update I always wanted to see. And that's the individually on the fan graphics. You don't see any kids in the stands. I mean this is baseball right? Also let's bring more variety on the fan graphics, instead of one row of fans looking the same as the other. This i only observed on my PlayStation 3 baseball game as it's the only one I have and play. What can I say? Eric Brynes had wonderful seasons in that era before injuries. For me to actually upgrade on another baseball game, I would like to see PlayStation turn back the clock some. Not just Hall Of Famer games but actual seasons. Perhaps 1987 MLB that comes out in 2023. Where we still have names such as Gary Carter, Will Clark, Jeffrey Leonard, Charlie Hough, Eric Davis, Jose Canseco, Bo Jackson, Darrell Evans, Tim Wallach etc. You noticed that I didn't name just the superstars. But also players that were so dedicated giving their best to one team for a number of seasons. I think this would be very fun to play such a video game in seasons. Sure there is now Aldonis Chapman. But in 1987 we still had Nolan Ryan throwing starter heat. And what about that wicked palm ball from Fernando Valenzuela? Wait a minute. Hold the phone. That must be an stat typo. Mark McGwire hit 49 homeruns? As a rookie?!?! If anyone looks at his Topps card from 1988, his arms really doesn't say steroids. Most people now heard of Alex Rodriguez and Miguel Tejada brilliant seasons at short stop. But who the hell was Alfredo Griffin?? Robin Yount led the American League in sacrafice flies? Lee Smiths stamina bar on PlayStation says he is good for three innings. And he is a closer!!! Wow. Tim Wallach's glove in this game snags any type of ground ball like a Hoover vacuum cleaner taking care of dust. Boy that Ricky Henderson is sure fast. But check out Vince Coleman and Harold Reynolds. Wait, Brian Downing is a lead off hitter? He doesn't steal bases. But check out that on base percentage. This video game sure got some hitting machines in George Brett, Tony Gwynn, and Wade Boggs but that Kevin Seitzer isn't that bad either. Hey Reggie Jackson played his last season in 1987. I wonder if I can install him at DH on my team. He might slam 60 big ones. Now that I have McGwire, and Strawberry to provide Mr. October with plenty of bat protection. Got Rickey Henderson and Steve Sax at the top of my lineup. This should make the opposing pitcher nervous with these two on base. My third hitter Darryl Strawberry should see plenty of fat pitches to conquer. Even have Wallach batting sixth to hit a clutch double, perhaps a homerun of his own. Yes I can have all superstars on this team, but I like competition. So instead of having Eric The Red Davis in the outfield I'll throw in gap hitter Stan Javier. At shortstop instead of Ozzie Smith I'll install Jose Uribe. Not much on offence but they were just as reliable on defense as the two above mentioned superstars. Who were great catchers in 1987? Gary Carter, Lance Parrish, Matt Nokes, Benito Santiago. On this team I'll take Ernie Whitt. He will hit one out from time to time, but he sure does throw out runners. If I figure out a pitching staff, this text will be much longer. Haha. I admit I had fun texting this spontaneous stuff. But I think MLB the Show from 1987 would be fucking awesome! I invite fellow fans, or fans that are not fans anymore to share input on such ideas. Peace people. I mean who wouldn't want to see Dave Parker launch one over center field?

Bases Loaded 1 on NES will always be my favorite. I had a knack for finding the pitchers on each team's roster that could throw the unhittable "down and in" slider. Most teams had 2 pitchers. Kansas had 4 of them: Ryan, Carter, Porco and Sako. Using 2 pitchers per game you could play an entire season of 80 consecutive perfect games.

@Bread And Circuses more factors than I can list but some are these: dozens of historic ballparks and old hall of famers you can unlock, you could create players with extremely unique pitches and approximate their throwing mechanics like Koufax’s curve ball, fantastic challenging mini-game to unlock content, the game mechanics felt and looked great, used to set up 1 inning games with friends essentially sudden death… unfortunately it was EA’s final entry in MLB games

I gotta give it to MLB The Show, it's a series that knew how to evolve, even in the smallest ways. The 2018 game was the peak in terms of quality and modes to offer, with the 4 later years just making things either more polished, expanding on things and just getting more and more accessible with multiplatform versions
