      Thank you my good friend, I just try to share the knowledge I’ve acquired doing all this plant growing! It’s so much more enjoyable when you know you have the tools to deal with whatever pops up!

    What about Neem? You can paint sticky solution around the legs of your display to prevent the ants from climbing up as well. Just remember if grass, weeds or debris get caught in it they will use as a bridge to go around it to not get stuck

    Synthetic "pyrethrins" are both less toxic and more effective. Preventing ants from climbing up those stands should be pretty easy though: sticky barriers like the ones used in orchards.

    I have to say that one of the selling points of these vertical systems was the supposed low maintenance. These videos are useful for sure, but they seem more and more to indicate that the advantages these systems have over traditional in-ground planting may be more trouble than they're worth. But hey, you've crunched the numbers apparently and seem to have found otherwise by honing your system. Gotta say though, I can't imagine hand spraying water or soap on 10s of thousands of berry plants for aphids when growing at scale as you do.

    Thank you for this. I didn't realize PT was phototoxic, and I haven't been applying it wrong. I have been having ants on sunflowers for years, and I noticed them getting everywhere. Meanwhile, when I brought the seedlings out, I went from battling soil gnats to aphids. I'll get out there today!

      It is indeed bad to leave the pt on plants after it's done it's job, it loses potency very fast anyway! Go ahead and spray these plants every 3-5 days for 2 weeks and i promise the ants and the aphids will be gone. I'll make a video soon on how to deal with fungus gnats also.

      @@ThePlantCharmer Thank you in advance for the fungus gnats. It's the best (not my) birthday gift ever. I finally defeated them for the most part but scattered so many solutions, I felt like I was machine gun spraying all the solutions.

    Bad infestation on my roses this year, but I don’t see the ants??? Thanks for the advice. Very appreciated!

      On some occasions there might not be ants involved but that should only make getting rid of them easier! Enjoy my friend!

    Method #4: if we're talking about not too many plants, you can just cover the base of the stem with a thick coat of Vaseline. This prevents ants from getting to the aphids to save them from ladybugs.
    Works great for peppers, not so much with vines or leafy greens that are in close contact with the ground

      Could definitely work but I'm not sure a petroleum based product such as Vaseline would be good for plants that need to breathe...

      @pozzowon 3 года назад +1

      @@ThePlantCharmer I did it last year, covered just about an inch of stem length, the plant is still alive and kicking
