    Differences in wood sizes are due to shrinkage of wood and planing/finishing once the wood has dried. When initially cut it is 2x2x8.

    I found my way to your page after listening to your interview on the Epic Gardener podcast (I know, I know, I'm late to the game). Thank you so much for sharing this, I am excited to build my own and give it a try! Can I ask why you secure the gutter supports under, rather than over, the frame pieces?

    Are there drainage holes in the gutters? If so how far apart and how many? Thanks for the great videos!

    • @ThePlantCharmer
      @ThePlantCharmer  3 года назад +5

      Yes I skipped that part for some reason, drill drainage holes every foot using the same drill bit you used for the zip tie holes and you’re all set!

    I saw extra holes in the bottom of the gutters, are those for drainage?

    • @ThePlantCharmer
      @ThePlantCharmer  2 года назад +1

      They are yes! Number of drainage holes will vary depending on the weather in your area but you cant go wrong with more drainage

    How did it go with your farm and strawberries in gutters? You bought a land a few years ago. I used to follow your old videos and actually built one small setup. What's the update on that?

    • @ThePlantCharmer
      @ThePlantCharmer  3 года назад +5

      You'll see in a few weeks but the farm is alive and kicking! We've built a sizeable clientele and keep expanding. I'll be youtubing this story starting this season

    Awesome video!!!! What are the best options for irrigating a 10 ft version of this tower in a backyard? All of the systems I can find seem to be for large gardens and I don't know what will work with a vertical system. Please help.

      I grow so many things in there...lettuce, herbs, strawberries, bell peppers, mini eggplant, beans, radishes, beets, onions, snap peas and more! I’m gonna grow in this system season long this year and I’ll make videos on all the crops it can grow

      Thank you so much for walking us through the entire process. So helpful and I can't wait till it stops snowing so I can get started. Snow storm number 5 this year in socal, and my strawberries have been buried each time. They still look fantastic...i would never have believed that they are so cold hardy.

      Thanks for putting that video out. I only found one other person who had a similar system but she did not give instructions on how to build it. I already have strawberries in two gutters which are about 7 ft long. Do you think the stand will support the extra 2 feet of weight? I would like to see you do videos on the other stuff you’ll grow in gutters and also your drip system for them.

    • @ThePlantCharmer
      @ThePlantCharmer  3 года назад +1

      @@karenchristian9204 thank you for your comment! These systems are not as useful if no one shows you how to grow in them so that’s exactly my plan. For this season...to show you guys how to get great performance out of these so yes I’ll be making videos on what crops grow best and yes drip tape and auto feeding is coming too I already have most of the parts needed. As for your 7ft gutters, I doubt you’ll have any trouble but in a future video I’ll show you guys how to install a cross brace which makes the system more stable, however I don’t think it’s needed.

    Great video! I'm definitely going to be looking for some free gutters this summer.
    Is there a reason you chose to zip tie the gutter to the support rather than screwing it in?

    • @ThePlantCharmer
      @ThePlantCharmer  3 года назад +1

      Somehow just say your comment sorry for the delayed response! I run a commercial operation and zip ties are cheaper then screws, so I’ve taken the habit of zip tying them. Screws should work just as well

      @@ThePlantCharmer Great, thanks! I'm always looking to make my projects as sturdy as possible so I'll go the screw route. Only building a few of these definitely changes some of the price/result calculations.

    How many strawberry plants will this hold?

    • @ThePlantCharmer
      @ThePlantCharmer  3 года назад

      30ft of gutters at 6 inch spacing per plant will allow you to grow 60 plants in that system
