    That poor M-1. At least you managed to fix it. Well done Norm! Love the layout and your work as always!! 🚂 NPVSRR

    I'm not a huge fan of 3 rail but for this layout I'm willing to ignore the track. You're videos have been a fun source for binge watching. Truly a work of absolute art...except the track part...LOL. Everything runs like a Rolodex. An amazing layout from top to bottom.

    Hi Norm - Some time ago you indicated that you might do a dedicated video on your wiring, command control, etc. I realize I'm being greedy but would love to see under the layout. The top of your layout is just fantastic. Kind regards.

    Great work Norm, as usual!! If your M1b is stock 3rd Rail, the gear ratio is probably 18.1 to 1. The motor pulley is 12 teeth, the pulley on the lower layshaft is 14 teeth, and the gearbox itself is 15.5 to 1. Yours seems to run very smoothly with the ERR cruise. Thanks for sharing!!

      I first used ERR back in 2008 in my N1. These vintage 3rd Rails with Pittman motors coupled to an 18:1 or higher final gear ratio can run just as well as a modern factory-equipped Legacy engine.

    Even after a couple of years subbing
    your channel I'm still amazed how
    putting the scale couplers on your
    3 rail cars gives them a very close
    to scale look!! They match up well
    against HO freight cars for sure,
    Nice job Norm!!

    hi norm love your vids and your layout im still a starter o scaler and i only got a basic lionel lionchief track running on my wall around my room rn it a 0-6-0 dockside switcher and a starter polar express birkshire loco and a few PRR and READING cars since my mom was born in PA but we live in AL but i was wondering would you happen to have a geared steam locomotive? the way you have your weathered set i say it would look awsome if you had one of the 3 geared locos crawling around your set pulling wood or logs or even coal

    Question norm, would you ever consider making a video on how you install your err cruise? I have a tmcc y-3 and before I start pulling wires out, I’d like to learn more about it etc. Thanks! -dizzle

      One of the 5022 vids had a Cruise M install which is what you'd use in your Y3. i explained some of the different types of aftermarket TMCC cruise in that one. I put Cruise M in my PRR Y3 a while back and it runs dreamy.

      Doing well, got real busy this summer with work travel. Still managed to buy more trains somehow! I also got back into train season a little early with the acquisition of a resin printer. I’ve made quite a few things already, maybe it’s time for a new vid.

    Norm, is there a name to that Pennsy green on the locomotives. I have two Broadway Limited Imports On30 in the Pennsy green. I plan to re-letter those to a private narrow gauge, but just in case I need to touch up the green I would like to know which paint to buy. Or is it called Pennsy Green. Thanks!

    • @normstrains
      @normstrains  2 года назад +1

      It’s called Brunswick Green.

    Ive seen a few videos of your prior layout, but were you an engineer or machinist at an early age by education and experience? Were you on staff for mth. lionel or such? Just seems nearly impossible for any of us ,at any age, to accumulate that kind of technical knowledge . Just address the technical skills we see, not your creative or artistic skills. Please. Im certain many of us would luv to begin learning down a similar path but how to begin?

    • @normstrains
      @normstrains  2 года назад +1

      I went to a tech school to get an associate’s degree in industrial electronics many years ago and had a few bench tech/controls gigs for a bit. Since then I have been working in field service in the mechanical testing industry supporting servohydraulic and electromechanical testing systems. In my line of work I have to work on everything. I am also certified to perform many types of field calibrations.

      @@normstrains your detailed answer is much appreciated. Probably like many others, I have no idea that such a career path was possible. Not sure if technical classes without practical experience would help, but I will persue it in next 2 weeks here in nj. I sit here with over 40 mth engines and lionel stuff from 1920's to 1960's, not run in 14 years, almost all less than 3 hours run time. And me without even basic knowledge to test, repair, or even lubricate these creations.
