Gorgeous video, being in the UK I don't see a lot of Lionel and it's the first time I have seen a superbly sceniced layout such as yours. Big fan of th N&W having picked up a couple of Winston Link books years ago. Made it to the museum in Roanoke many years ago on a holiday trip to Virginia, don't think they had seen many Brits come through the door 😂 John
Good stuff as always Norm!!! I ain't changing to Kadee....lobsters are fine for me. And your work on electronics is above my pay. But always inspired by your weathering and layout run bys. Thanks
Your layout is a huge inspiration to me! I have watched your videos multiple times and continue to learn from them. Would you consider making a video on how your layout is powered?
Nice work Norm, I have an old video of Y's and A's and that steam whistle sound is spot on, they had that distinct sound that reverberated off of the mountains and valleys in NW territory!!! Awesome!!!
Fantastic video as always Norm! I really appreciate that rather than bashing Lionel for the coupler height being slightly off, you just fixed it and talked about how good it is that they have the mounts in the first place. Great to see actual modeling and someone not afraid to take stuff apart!
I know you don't do this hobby for the collectors value, but with all you have invested I sure hope you have extra insurance on it. It would be almost impossible to replace if something should happen. As always, a truly beautiful layout.
Norm, another awesome video, I think I speak for everyone, we could watch for hours. Purchased a new home in North Carolina, 3000 sq foot finished basement, very few homes with basements in Florida. I can finally build an actual layout. Love the double header. Could you tell me about your 3D printer, or suggest an inexpensive one for a novice to start with. Thanks for sharing your videos, they are awesome!
I think a kadee 740 would look better. It's all I use on my stuff and they just look SO GOOD especially on intermountain o scale cars and weaver stuff too. Bought some really short shank couplers and I think they'll look great on say a Reading T1 or even on the point if this Y3.
@@normstrains fair enough, honestly I think any kadee couplers work really well. I like the newer ones because they have the spring tucked in so you don't have to worry about em popping out. That was a huge pain back when I was in HO lol. In my humble opinion, I think the newer ones are much more realistic. I just wish someone would come out with magnalock brake lines in O scale like they have in HO. It'd take the realism to a whole new level in 3 rail or most especially 2 rail.
@@ChargerusPrime 805s seem to be a little more forgiving if they don’t get installed perfectly straight. Plus they grab the big ol’ Lionel couplers if they have to.
@@normstrains that's definitely true, I have a spare pair of 805s that I saved for a later date. I might end up using them for that purpose, but my hope is to have an in-between car with a 3 rail lobster claw at one end and a kadee at the other. That way I can run my engines and cars with other stuff at train shows with my club.
Hi Norm - maybe you or one of your subscribers can comment on the best looking, realistic track, that would accommodate Lionel's 1950s Magnetraction ALCOs. Any help would be most appreciated!
Great video norm nothing better than watching 2 behemoths heading a long coal drag
Glorious noise bath!
Don't have the words, just too nice !
Awesome, Norm! You da best.
Thanks Bear! See you at York?

Mighty clean running steam engines!
Thanks!
🤩 thanks man!
Where art meets toy trains, and photography! No room for imagination because you nailed it. Just awesome!

I have been asked a couple times - I probably should!

Thanks man! I think Lionel did a nice job on these sounds!
GREAT VIDEO Norm!!! LOVE N.& W. & THE ROANOKE VALLEY!!! SHES THE STAR CITY OF THE SOUTH AAAAAAAAAAAAAA COOL MAN COOL!! Howard M. 😀😃😄😁😊❤💙💜👍👍👍👍👍
Amazing Y3 engine Norm!
Shake those windows going out of town! Awesome video again! The Y6B and the Y3 are perfect together!

Another masterpiece in every way with awesome sound.
Thanks Norm....you gave me some ideas......I'm doing a steamer right now.......where did you get the weathering pencils.....
They’re all over Amazon or eBay. Look for the AK10039 set, that has all the black/white/gray colors.
Ok, I’m a 2-rail snob, but sheesh, Norm. You’re making it hard. Your work is amazing!
A wonderful locomotive!
Always a treat!

Thanks man. Good news on the new basement! I am running a Creality Ender Pro.
Thank you
The best!
I have owned (2) Y3b Proto 2000 in HO scale, But they never looked that good. Your weathering in outstanding.
Great video, as always! Who by chance makes the N&W 2 bay coal hoppers?
@@DynamicDuo795 those are Atlas.
Fantastic video Norm. Question...is there a such thing as a flex 3 rail O scale track? I am new to the game so that is why I ask.
Yes - I used a bit of Atlas flex here and there on this layout. Gargraves makes some too.
Norm when you kadee the coupler do you loose the electro coupler aspect to open and close automatically?
Yes but I hardly miss the feature honestly. I built my layout to have all switching activities within easy reach.

Always love seeing your videos Norm, hope to have half the amount of detail that you do on my next layout! Big steam for the win!
Anything on CLOSING THE GAP between the TENDER & the ENGINE to make it look more realistic? 🤔
I’ve done this on a few engines but a lot of times it doesn’t bug me too bad.
