Hi I just discovered your channel and being a train lover of all scales I really enjoyed seeing what is possible especially using 3D printing. Having done card stock and styrene interiors myself your approach is far better and the results speaks for itself. Doing the videos for us mere mortals takes alot of time so much thanks for the inspiration. Run8 George
I think what you do is absolutely amazing! The attention to all the little details, without overdoing it. It's pure artistry, and I really enjoy the videos!
Only a master can make cleaning a layout up entertaining. Actually it just allowed us to see more details on your layout. Like many other aspects of a model railroad it's easy to go down a rabbit hole when you start a project. Thanks for sharing.
Norm..... You're layout is always big time entertainment.... I never tire of seeing it. Thanks for some of the scenery tips as well. The food and drinks were top notch. 👍👍 Greg Annett
That truck is beautiful and a nice addition to the layout. If I were lucky enough to tour Norm's railroad I don't think I'd freak out over a little cracked ballast! :-)
Hi norm, I'm pretty new to your channel. I've been binge watching your videos, and am blown away with all your work. Inspired me to get myself and my father back into the hobby and got him the legacy nyc mohawk for Christmas. Hope you and your family all have a wonderful holiday season.
MASTER IS THE WORD! THANKS FOR SHARING NORM MAGNIFICENT LAYOUT IVE PURCHASED A HALF DOZEN OF YOUR 3RD RAIL ENGINES YOU RUN YOU TOTALLY SOLD ME ON 3RD RAIL. MERRY CHRISTMAS & HAPPY NEW YEAR, FANTASTIC WORK.
Norm, you are a perfectionist. Incredible layout and detail. This is the best looking layout and equipment I have ever seen. Keep up the good work. We all appreciate you posting these videos. Fantastic. Happy holidays.
This is certainly the best looking 3-rail O scale layout I have ever seen. I also have not seen O scale buildings and weathering like this-fantastic! You are on a different level, sir!
I can only imagine how meticulous you are at your job! lol... After working in aircraft maintenance for 37 years I see where you are coming from. The little things. When you mentioned your back drop 'leaves a little bit to be desired' I almost spit my coffee out... I hope to do something that nice. Your work is amazing. Have fun with your guests and the layout. Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
Hi Norm, I just did a major cleaning on my layout similar to what you did the other day and now I watched this video. I think those blue boogers came from sasquatch as he roams the city at night. Still digging your railroad man. That ballast work throughout the pike is a great color. Nice work once again!
I have just watched a couple of your videos and I must say that I am totally impressed with your beautiful layout and your fine meticulous details in everything that you do. So much to learn from guys like you. I have shared your videos with my fellow train club members to enjoy your excellent work and enjoyable presentations. Thank you.
Damn you got a coveted Lee Turner gift!!! That says something in itself. Appreciate you sharing the layout in so many different aspects. I left 3 rail 10 years ago to journey into 2 rail. Will start building new benchwork on a layout next year and layouts like yours are always a great inspiration.
Always look forward to a new video and this doesn't disappoint. I searched in your channel to find video(s) about the layout itself. Any chance you could do a few on the layout? How you came up with the design, control system, lighting, etc. I would like to come close to a layout setup like this and any advise you can share would be great. Thanks!
SECOND Sasquatch sighting! Thanks so much Norm. What a detailed, pragmatic tour of your layout. It turns out what looks perfect on RUclips actually requires cleaning and maintenance. It’s as if your creations exists in the real world rather than some heavenly ether. You share great practical techniques and materials with us. What are your thoughts on using forced perspective as an element in your layout design?
Absolutely the best, however,.... Constant movement of camera, subject, or both at the same time, induces vertigo, especially with closeups. Despite that, there's an incredible amount of information here for modelers.
Sorry my fingers don't work well. To finish I was going to say dust and spiders are the big problem. I probably spend a good eight hours doing maintenance before running trains. And it's a lot harder when your trains are N scale.
Whose layout it's not completely covered in trains? No matter what scale we model in we always have more trains then we can put out on the layout. It's a shame about the Lionel type third rail but when I would go to the Long Island Railroad with my uncle there were signs all over saying Beware of the third rail. Because they had multi-unit electric subway cars and stuff like that too. Since I Model A prosperous Penn Central I run all of my electric pantograph down because for the typically I'm running on the third rail even if it's not outside third rail. Is there anybody still alive who used to do outside third rail? Those guys were real Pioneers in the old days we have it so damn easy now it's pathetic. The only hard part is paying for it all hahaha Merry Christmas Happy New Year all that good stuff

Norm - I have nothing but admiration for you and your approach to model railroading. Wow. Thanks for sharing.

You're right. It was entertaining. Norm's so modest about everything, too.
There is no second to Norm,..When it comes to model rail he is THE ONE.
The art here gives me the same relaxation as watching a Bob Ross video. Great stuff

Gotta say, covering the cracks with foliage really adds to the story of the layout. Especially if kept up in the future. Slow overgrowth.
Would have never noticed a lot of the issue you found, the layout is already exceptional!
That truck is beautiful and a nice addition to the layout. If I were lucky enough to tour Norm's railroad I don't think I'd freak out over a little cracked ballast! :-)
Absolutely Love-Love-Love your show simply awesome thank you Norm you have a new fan!
You let some of your Pittsburgh Yinzer show with the Reddin up comment.
I cannot tell you how much I admire your layout. You have such a great modeling style and everything has so much character!
Hey thanks a lot man!

Your clouds look great, would love to see a video of your technique.
Sasquatch 😂. Awesome! Merry christmas bro.
When you said “red up” it made total sense to a native pittsburgher such as myself . The burgh has a way of staying with ya ! Lol

Your cloud painting adventure 🤣 you paint some wonderful clouds my good sir
Thanks, I learned at RUclips University!
Bruce Manson’s AF layout had very good buildings on it. Some of the best buildings I’ve seen on a layout.
That is a beautiful layout. You made layout touch upstairs and cleaning fun to watch. Nice work.
Happy Holidays Norm to you and your family. Awesome layout!
Cool Norm!
Your clouds are spectacular
You mentioned "Lee Turner"--He & I used to work at Red Holman Pontiac, back in the mid 80's, on the afternoon shift!
Joe Bliss
He's a cool cat!
2 Sasquatch sightings! Cool
Another awesome video Norm! Merry Christmas to you and your family.

Merry Christmas 🎄⛄
Layout looks great.....
Merry Christmas! 🎁
another video already! keep it up!
Seth Giam also had great buildings on his layout. He would scratch built O scale buildings modeled after HO scale building kits.
Lookin' good Norm - who's product did you use for those great looking stone retaining walls?
Absolutely the best, however,.... Constant movement of camera, subject, or both at the same time, induces vertigo, especially with closeups. Despite that, there's an incredible amount of information here for modelers.
Norm:
I used to use white glue & water, but now when I ballast I use Modge Podge(matte medium) & water about the same ratio. It doesen dry
Maybe I'll give that a try someday!
The big problem with having our layouts in the basement are
Sorry my fingers don't work well. To finish I was going to say dust and spiders are the big problem. I probably spend a good eight hours doing maintenance before running trains. And it's a lot harder when your trains are N scale.
I have a little question, but who made them Erie Builts on your layout?
Atlas
Norm I’m basing my layout on old New York. Where do you get your buildings from?
I think most are scratch built by him.
@@1940limited I can build models but I can’t scratch build. Do you know where I can buy early 20th century New York buildings?
i would like to learn your scenery techniques.
Your videos inspire me to start my train layout again. May I ask how large is your layout?
What are you using for your telegraph poles?
Vintage Weaver for the lineside ones.

Do you signals just indicate turnout position, or do they actually indicate block occupancy?
They show speed based on block occupation - which is changed by routing too.
