Great layout Norm.
Outstanding work Norm! Very informative video from start to finish!
You’re persistence and patience really paid off with these two. You have them running like a Swiss watch. Outstanding work as always, Happy New year.
Happy New Year 12:30 a.m. 2023 my name is Victor I live in New Jersey .I stumbled across you rebuilding this locomotive I'm rebuilding an old steam locomotive right now I was trying to learn a few things you obviously have quite a bit more knowledge than I do. I'm laughing at the way the trucks are tweaking on the track with that center motor you have to secure that so it doesn't swing either way somehow I'm sure you'll figure it out I mean that's what I'm coming up with. Pleasure to meet you I'm going to subscribe and I'll be in touch thank you sir for your knowledge
So glad I found this channel because you have given me inspiration! I love this layout, your trains and the amazing work you’ve put into this. I want to build a layout in my basement. I’ve been fascinated with trains since I was a child. I live 2 miles from a Norfolk Southern yard and would love to replicate that on an O-gauge layout. Your channel is great!
NEXT LEVEL MODEL RAILROADING!!!
Fascinating and enjoyable, to watch your troubleshooting techniques. Your knowledge of physics and electronics is interesting.
The layout is beautiful.
Very cool Norm, this project you did is incredible. I watched the entire video and really enjoyed it.
Wow!
Just, wow!
Your patience, technical know how and work are fantastic.
Thanks for sharing your skill set and love of the hobby with us.
Norm, I model modern BNSF in HO scale, the exact opposite of your scale and time period. Yet I am enamored with your videos as your problem solving and modelling is top notch. Great work with these two models. Keep up the chronicles of Norm as I am a loyal follower!
Yet another engine I sought down and bought because of NORM!!!!!!!! I have most of norms Pennsylvania lineup!!!!! He's the best there is hands down. Thanks NORM for sharing and educating me!
Amazing work Norm!
Love the job you did on the Centercabs Norm. It was a lot of work but I am sure you feel good about the results. One thing I have taken away from watching your videos is the importance of having the proper tools and workbench to reduce frustration. Thanks again!
Amazing work! I wish that I had your skill and eye for detail. Thank you for your videos, I look forward to seeing each one that you put out. You are a real inspiration to an older train lover just getting into the hobby!
Just an FYI if your traction tires come off try using Bull Frog Snot. I have seen it used and it works well. Unless of course you replace the traction tire wheel then that's different. Love the videos. PRR lover myself. Love the way you built the layout. Not toy train like. :) 👍
The problem with that is in the absence of a tire, there is a deep and wide groove. Now that I’m dangerous with the 3D printer, I can make them in TPU no prob!
God i love you layout.
Absolutely cool 😎 👍👍👍!
Also, I agree with others! A DCS system and some MTH engines would be welcome/look great on the layout! 😂🤣
Really looking good - never seen these double-headed. Well done!
I am a conventional runner so the electronics are above my pay grade. But the cosmetic stufff is always good. And just watching the layout is great. Thanks
Hi Norm, as a prewar postwar operator I am amazed at the complexity of the modern engines. I enjoy every one of your videos. Happy New Year.
The new legacy C-liners have the truck rocking issue with the 3 axle truck. Im guessing the trucks are mounted in a similar fashion as the tooling was originally mth. The motors mount to the trucks, not the frame. The frame has an opening where the motor shaft drops thru the frame. I like your mod to reduce the rocking. Great video.
One needs to develop a sense of humor when trying to work around these 3 rail designs. My buffer plate seemed like the least hassle vs. trying to machine the blocks in some way to accept a bearing of some type.
Great share thank you Happy New Year to you 👍🏻🚂🔔😎
Very enjoyable video. Thanks.
Great video very educational and enjoyable. Happy New Year to you and yours
Nice work Norm!! I just wired up a
Decoder and LEDS for my HO
Conrail GP40-2, it's so much easier
on that big stuff, the older I get the
harder it is to work on the small
stuff!!! LOL!!!
good looking units
For a moment I thought that was a real train, but the factory gave it away. That's because we don't make anything anymore.😂
Man...they look and sound good bro....nice job.....
Fantastic, I enjoyed every minute. I too have that exact powered unit and would love to have a dummy for it someday. Thank you for taking the time to educate us new guys like myself it is very inspiring. Have a Happy New Year Norm!
Happy new year! May it be filled with more 🚂
Hunted this down from your comment on the forum. You're living my dream man! Those trucks with the unequal span between axles are a problem. I wonder if locating the motor worm between the wider gap would've prevented this? Your solution seems to work, and moving the cans inboard would limit interior space for the innards. Good thing only a few prototypes in 1:1 used those trucks. But Baldwins were always known for LUGGING. Red Green shoutout!
Red Green, my favorite Canadian!!!
That guy can fix anything with a
roll of duct tape!!
Very Nice!
have you considered pickups on the dummy unit and really MUing the two together with a harness with a 6 pin micro connector? Then you could have 5 power pickups in total. Maybe you can put a board in the dummy for sound and lighting too. Great job on modifying the engine to your standards.
I am waiting to see if MTH will eventually list the parts on their parts site. After that I have to hunt down more of those nice low profile collectors. If I can get the dummy to pick up power I could also install sound and lighting.
@@normstrains Have you checked with Norm at Caboose Stop Hobbies? I do not know if you know about their O scale weekly show on RUclips. They have been around for 50 years. ruclips.net/video/vjzWEnI-33Y/видео.html They do shows for HO and N too. They might have what you need.
Sweet!
Rig up a stiff spring to sit over the outside axle area.
Great work. Your are an inspiration. So much so I am creating a new layout with black ceiling like yours and sky colored walls. Can you tell me what paint color you used for the sky on your layout? I want to paint my walls a sky color.
Thanks man! I used several Home Depot latex colors. Base coat was a color called Snowfield made by Glidden. It was then layered over with an old Disney color called Silly Old Bluebirds which was a washed out sky blue. I think it’s now discontinued. A couple years ago I painted two more sky tones, blending lighter to darker going up. I used a couple colors called Carefree Sky and Below Zero. Can’t remember if those were standard HD Glidden colors. I went to RUclips university to learn cloud painting. Titanium white and ultramarine blue tube acrylics were used.
Tommy Z has the answers
New to your channel but do you always tar apart your engines that come from the factory with cool options .
I haven’t finished the video yet to see if you corrected the blind drivers issue, but TommyZ has a good fix. He uses some “barrels” from a local hardware store for the axle to keep it locked in place. Here is the video for reference-
ruclips.net/video/xkphVLX_Vwk/видео.html
He had a nice fix!
Crazy obsession there
How many $$$ are invested in total in all of it (not including your time)?
can you reduce the amount of rotational slop at the bolster?
No, too much ‘brake torque’ is created about the center driver axis. There’s almost nothing to react against it above the frame. The pad was the best option which turned out to be simplest. There is way too much vertical freedom in the slotted axle. Just a terrible design.
Hey Norm I have an old K Line F7 that I’d like to install tmcc into. Where can I find the appropriate electronics to do the conversion?
I like Royztrains for my ERR TMCC parts. 3rd Rail sells them too.
@@normstrains thank you so much. I hope I can get my first O scale install done correctly.
Thought diesel locomotives made smoke ? Why take it out ?
Because smoke units in model diesels always look horrible lmao
