    Happy New Year 12:30 a.m. 2023 my name is Victor I live in New Jersey .I stumbled across you rebuilding this locomotive I'm rebuilding an old steam locomotive right now I was trying to learn a few things you obviously have quite a bit more knowledge than I do. I'm laughing at the way the trucks are tweaking on the track with that center motor you have to secure that so it doesn't swing either way somehow I'm sure you'll figure it out I mean that's what I'm coming up with. Pleasure to meet you I'm going to subscribe and I'll be in touch thank you sir for your knowledge

    So glad I found this channel because you have given me inspiration! I love this layout, your trains and the amazing work you’ve put into this. I want to build a layout in my basement. I’ve been fascinated with trains since I was a child. I live 2 miles from a Norfolk Southern yard and would love to replicate that on an O-gauge layout. Your channel is great!

    Just an FYI if your traction tires come off try using Bull Frog Snot. I have seen it used and it works well. Unless of course you replace the traction tire wheel then that's different. Love the videos. PRR lover myself. Love the way you built the layout. Not toy train like. :) 👍

      The problem with that is in the absence of a tire, there is a deep and wide groove. Now that I’m dangerous with the 3D printer, I can make them in TPU no prob!

    The new legacy C-liners have the truck rocking issue with the 3 axle truck. Im guessing the trucks are mounted in a similar fashion as the tooling was originally mth. The motors mount to the trucks, not the frame. The frame has an opening where the motor shaft drops thru the frame. I like your mod to reduce the rocking. Great video.

      One needs to develop a sense of humor when trying to work around these 3 rail designs. My buffer plate seemed like the least hassle vs. trying to machine the blocks in some way to accept a bearing of some type.

    Hunted this down from your comment on the forum. You're living my dream man! Those trucks with the unequal span between axles are a problem. I wonder if locating the motor worm between the wider gap would've prevented this? Your solution seems to work, and moving the cans inboard would limit interior space for the innards. Good thing only a few prototypes in 1:1 used those trucks. But Baldwins were always known for LUGGING. Red Green shoutout!

    have you considered pickups on the dummy unit and really MUing the two together with a harness with a 6 pin micro connector? Then you could have 5 power pickups in total. Maybe you can put a board in the dummy for sound and lighting too. Great job on modifying the engine to your standards.

    • @normstrains
      @normstrains  Год назад +1

      I am waiting to see if MTH will eventually list the parts on their parts site. After that I have to hunt down more of those nice low profile collectors. If I can get the dummy to pick up power I could also install sound and lighting.

    Great work. Your are an inspiration. So much so I am creating a new layout with black ceiling like yours and sky colored walls. Can you tell me what paint color you used for the sky on your layout? I want to paint my walls a sky color.

    • @normstrains
      @normstrains  Год назад +1

      Thanks man! I used several Home Depot latex colors. Base coat was a color called Snowfield made by Glidden. It was then layered over with an old Disney color called Silly Old Bluebirds which was a washed out sky blue. I think it’s now discontinued. A couple years ago I painted two more sky tones, blending lighter to darker going up. I used a couple colors called Carefree Sky and Below Zero. Can’t remember if those were standard HD Glidden colors. I went to RUclips university to learn cloud painting. Titanium white and ultramarine blue tube acrylics were used.

    I haven’t finished the video yet to see if you corrected the blind drivers issue, but TommyZ has a good fix. He uses some “barrels” from a local hardware store for the axle to keep it locked in place. Here is the video for reference-

    can you reduce the amount of rotational slop at the bolster?

    • @normstrains
      @normstrains  Год назад +2

      No, too much ‘brake torque’ is created about the center driver axis. There’s almost nothing to react against it above the frame. The pad was the best option which turned out to be simplest. There is way too much vertical freedom in the slotted axle. Just a terrible design.
