- Hello Soapers! In this video I should you how I made my coffee scrub soap without using any added colors. No micas, no clays, nada. This recipe includes coconut milk, cold pre-brewed coffee, coffee seed oil, espresso fragrance oil, used coffee grounds, and whole bean coffee for the garnish.
The oil and butter combination is my personal recipe, but you could use any combo of oils and butters that you like and still achieve similar results.
This soap turned brown due to the espresso fragrance oil, which has a vanillin content and will turn the batter brown during saponification. Here you can see the wet batter was a nice rich brown, but as the coffee when through soaponification it turned much, much darker. I bring this up in case you are planning to use any colors like titanium dioxide, or anything really. You can try to combat this with a vanilla stabilizer, but think you would still see some browning. I did use stabilizer for this recipe on purpose. I wanted the dark espresso color and I looooove it.
