Making Cold Process Aloe Vera Soap - Harvesting the Leaves and Gel - Full Soap Making Recipe
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 28 май 2024
- In this video, I demonstrate my easy method for extracting the gel from aloe vera leaves and share my recipe and technique for making aloe vera soap using the cold process soap method.
This method uses fresh aloe vera gel as a full water replacement in the soap recipe. You can also blend some fresh aloe gel into your soap making oils and make your lye solution with water if you would like a more straightforward process. If I blend my aloe into my oils, I make the lye solution with water but use a 1:5:1 water to lye ratio. I have used 2.5:1 liquid to lye ratio in the video demonstration recipe to maximise the amount of aloe in the finished soap.
Recipe details
My mould used in this video is 22cm long, 6.5cm wide and 5.5cm deep
It holds 822g of soap batter in total.
For this soap, I used the following ingredients:
80% olive oil - 432g
15% coconut oil - 81g
5% castor oil - 27g
Aloe gel/water 182g (2.5:1 water to lye ratio - in the video I used 192g due to the aloe gel being weighed as ice cubes, I also strained out the aloe pulp from the lye solution)
Sodium hydroxide 73g (5% superfat calculated into the recipe)
Blue indigo powder mixed with some water for the colour.
Essential oils - 22g in total (4% of base oils)
11g tea tree
8g peppermint
3g cedar
Method as demonstrated in video
New to soap making? This is important!
Sodium hydroxide and potassium hydroxide (lyes) used in soap making, in granular or flake form or in solution with water/other liquids, as well as raw soap batter, are highly corrosive and require careful and attentive handling and the proper use of personal protective equipment. I need a teacher
One of the best tutorials I have seen. Super easy to follow instructions, presented in a calm gentle manner. Bonus points for not having any music interfering with your voice. Fantastic! Thank you, Elly ❤️🇨🇦
Thank you.
I totally agree with you.
Yes totally agree re music. Very happy to have found you Elly. Some youtubers do have just soft background music instead of speaking at all. With the ingredients and instructions slowly appearing on the screen, that works too if they get the speed of the written info just right. And choice of music is quite important too. No headbangers please🙉.but both music and voice simultaneously has made me switch off some youtubers.
Thanks Elly for your calm and very clear way of passing on your knowledge. I have only recently discovered you so am going through your videos when I can.👌
@@EllysEverydaySoapMaking can't you use the aloe leaf in the recipe to make the soap?

Love your content, it's easy to follow as a beginner and very detailed. Also, I must point out, that I highly value you pointing out that you're not sure wether or not the aloe actually still do their magic after being in contact with the lye. That's refreshingly honest and solid in a world of click-baitey cosmetics influencers. Would always refer to your content for real info.
Thank you Herbert, that's a wonderful compliment and is very much appreciated.
I love your voice 😍😍 u sound so calm.

These soaps are SO pretty! I've been wanting to learn how to make my own soaps at home for years since I have sensitive skin. Hopefully I'll be able to pick it up this year as a hobby.
This looks delightful and so easy.. thank you for the encouragement! Think the guys will love the scent!

Thank you, for sharing the aloe soap . I love it,
That was so relaxing! That colour is great!
Exactly what I needed! Here in Hawaii I have the same exact aloe type just HUGE leaves bc they are very old. New and the easiest way I’ve seen to get the gel out even if not for soaping. Thank you!!!
Thank you Naty! Yep it's a good method :)
Thanks Elly :) I loved it as usual! I love the way you simplify the soap making process. I personally also love simple soaps.Take care xx

Interesting. Useful soap formula.
I think it was this time a year ago when I started watching your videos and right after lockdown here in NZ I started making soap myself. Your videos are a constant source of inspiration!!! I’m going to get aloe from my neighbour’s and start a new recipe! Thank you once again!
That is truly wonderful Danielle, thanks for commenting! So nice to hear from you in NZ. Enjoy making your aloe soap, it's really fun! Take care.

Thanks a lot Ms Elly. I’m truly appreciate your time, your knowledge, your kindness. ..I’ve learned a lot from all your videos. And I decided to start making soap at home. Now I share it by Vietnamese for soap making lover in my country. One again, Thank you ❤️❤️❤️
SHE IS ALWAYS SO HELPFUL!!! Your channel is amazing. So helpful
Beautiful soap, great video! I love the simplicity and can’t wait to use fresh aloe! I’ve only ever used the juice. Aloe is a favorite ingredient of mine and all of the soaps I’ve made with it give my skin the best results for me, personally. Thank you! And I love your technique on harvesting etc. ❤️
Thank you :)
Beautiful!!!! Thank you for sharing with us. This was so therapeutic to watch!
Oh, thank you Kailey, I was actually a bit nervous all week making this video - glad to hear people are enjoying it. Sometimes we youtube creators can lose the big picture view!
Whoa!!! Beautiful! Thank you for sharing this recipe
My pleasure 😊
Lovely soap, thank you for sharing.
Que maravilha essa tradução para o português!!! Obrigada!!
Another great video! Unless i've missed it somewhere, can you please consider doing a video explaining what benefits different oils and oil combinations have? You've taught us how to create recipes and explained everything to get us dreaming up our own recipes, I just struggle with which oils to mix together. Thanks Elly, you're a gem x
You must be reading my mind Nicole - I have a special video coming out tomorrow that covers that very important subject! I hope you enjoy it :)

Wow, they look great and I bet they feel just as good!
Lovely soap, such a pretty indigo color.
My soap moulds came today, still waiting for the lye. So, I did my aloe leaves today from my plant that was in desperate need of a trim! Amazingly, the spoon with the leaves worked exactly as demonstrated! Aloe liquid is now freezing in the ice cube tray waiting for the next segment of this recipe!! Thankyou!
Ooh that's great Pam, well done!
Pretty impressed with myself!😉
Love your videos, I’ve been making Aloe soap for years, I blend my aloe in my Vita mix on juice blend then I strain it before I freeze it. Also I infuse all my olive oils with calendula for the added benefits. You can infuse with any herb. One time I had some of the green leaf left in and the bars streaked beautifully, totally unexpected.
Thanks for that Donna, yes, there are SO many ways to make aloe soap! I actually tested the difference between straining the juice before and after adding the sodium hydroxide, and found it way easier to strain after it was made into a lye solution. Somehow it seems to separate the pulp from the juice so much easier! The calendula sounds lovely. I adore calendula soap. Actually I'm planning a video on that soon :)

Have you tried it?
@@jasongreenblatt6068 not yet. Was thinking this weekend maybe.
In Hawaii aloe vera is abundant! This is definitely going to be in my first top 3 soaps to make. Can't wait to try this. Thanks again for a great tutorial. I love your humility in the way you teach!
Kimmy, thank you!! I was away over the weekend but just saw your kind contribution. I can't thank you enough :)
So I made my aloe soap, but I used a silicone rectangle mold rather than using paper as you did. I left it to saponify for 5 days and the bottom was still very soft, but I was anxious to take it out, I should have waited, it was a gooy mess. But I mashed it back together and let it sit for another day before slicing it.
I think for this particular soap it is better to use the parchment paper instead of silicone. 😊
Thank you MA. You are always the best.
Hey Elly loved the simplicity of your soap as much as your garden, will try this one
Thank you Joya, glad you liked it! Have fun :)
In my experience I have used aloe in place of water with the very same soap recipe and the aloe (soap) is significantly more silky. Thanks for another informative interesting video share!
Gwendolyn Allen, do you freeze your aloe before adding it to lye?
As Always perfect video with all instruction.... did you remember me... I have asked you 1 Question few days back with same Aloe soap and I got my answer in reply...🙂🙂

You inspired me to make the aloe soap. I used a recipe as simple as possible so that I can recognize the benefits of the fresh aloe Vera gel from a leaf that I filet myself. After curing for about 5 weeks I went ahead and tried a bar. AMAZING.
It was actually pretty creamy but nice suds! My breast milk soap was my favorite but I don’t produce it anymore so I think the aloe is my favorite right now
Lovely! Yes I must do a lather test video for this soon :)

Thanks Kathy. My skin was a bit flushed that day! I just wash my face with pure, unscented and uncoloured castile soap like this ruclips.net/video/MzDZts9hjKw/видео.html and use a plain, unscented moisturiser and night cream. I also wear sunscreen every day, my skin is so white it burns really easily and I've had some issues with skin cancer from too much surfing and sailing in my teens!

Love your recipe, I’ve tried this several times and thought I’d done it wrong because the lye solution was cold.
What a great video! I harvest my Zingiber zerumbet aka shampoo ginger plant once a year and your idea of the ice cube trays is ingenious! I always have leftover juice and not enough time to finish my shampoos. Ive lived at my new home for 4 years now and recently started harvesting this plant. I fertilized it this year and I have a huge crop this year and I’m going to make soap this year. Your video is so helpful! Thank you!
Are you suppose to add cold water to the lye?
That's a perfect trick to separate the aloe cause I was just doing this with a knife today and it was TORTURE!!!
