I’m a diyer. I did my own I paid 120.00 for the hair including the crochet needles!! I installed them and they’re 15inches long 🙌🏾 I do my own maintenance i’m not about to pay someone’s mortgage to have loc extensions installed. I’m sorry I know that’s their hustle but I can take that $1200.00 and book a trip to Las Vegas or Aruba!! As for loc to part ratio watch some RUclips videos on how to achieve it that’s what I did. Love and light y’all #savethemcoins
I’m glad I found this video. I’m planning to transition into locs. I’m already natural with 4b/4c hair and I was curious to know how the loc extensions work. I’m not that person who wants to start from the beginning of the journey, I want them long already and I find your video and also the comments very helpful! Thank you!!
I paid someone $800 for permanent loc extensions, and they used synthetic hair on me 😳😔 I had to remove it myself, then make my own loc extensions with human hair and install them myself. So definitely research the loctician! But honestly, imo, you're better off doing them yourself.
I went to a girl that swore she can do them. I paid her 300 bucks, it took her HOURS! Like literally past 1am. And she did a terrible job. They also started falling out and making patches. What she did was braid my hair & then wrapped hair around the braid! They weren’t even loc extensions. Essentially just faux locs. She didn’t give me my money back, all she offered to do is shave my head 🙃. Fast forward three years later I’m going to Nappstar (like I should have done in the first place instead of being cheap).
I got permanent loc extensions in 2015, but my own hair was already about bob length. She charged $100 per inch so I paid $1,000 for 10 inches ("that's what she said"😜🤣). No but seriously, I did my research first. The loctician that did mine had done clients' hair on her salon's YT channel, talking her way through what she was doing. I saw that she knew what she was doing. Once my locs got to a length I liked then I cut off the 10 inches of faux locs. At that point my natural locs were bra strap length. That was in 2019. Today my locs touch the bottom of my butt cheeks😆 Just do your research. Go by word of mouth opinions, online reviews, videos/pics when it comes to finding a PROFESSIONALLY LICENSED Loctician.
I’m a cosmetologist and I bought my human hair locs from Daixidreadology and it matches my 4B hair and I spent under $200 for 100 locs and it was fast shipping it took me 3 days to install bc I’m a mom and so forth.
I'm thinking of getting loc extensions. I was hesitant in listening to what you had to say. But I so appreciate you keeping in one hunnid! I needed to hear it. That said, I think I passed the test! Thanks for the info!
I started out with sisterlocks. It was $1200 and 23 hours 8 years ago. Then there was the maintenance for 6 years. I'm having a hard time going through that whole process again since I lost my locs to chemo. Especially the ugly phase. Lol. Now, locs are more expensive now. Permanent locs is the way for me to go even if I've got to do it myself. I'll be rocking my locs again. 🤪
Hey sis! I cut my sisterlocs off last year because of depression and now I am starting over with microlocs in a few days. I hope your restart was good to you!
I havent restarted my locs. My natural hair isn't the same texture and I am unwilling to pay a fortune and deal with attitudes. Lol. Im learning how to fix my own hair. Currently I'm using the wrap and locs until my hair grows out. Thank you all for the well wishes. I am doing very well.
Great vid! I have had a lot of people tell me the journey is more important….I told them you right and MY JOURNEY IS GREAT😂😂😂😂 and my extensions love it!
I’m in the process of doing mines myself. I’m using my son’s locks that he cut off. I had to tweak his locks a little. I dyed them and tightened them up. I’m currently parting my hair. Next I’m going to instaloc my real hair. I can’t wait I’m excited!!
Please listen to her because she is absolutely correct. It takes a lot of time and money. This needs to be done correctly by a professional who knows what they are doing.
My loctician charged me $5 per extension, she started my locs and extensions 2 years ago but at that time my sides and back was shaved but i had let that part grow out because i was tired of looking for good barbors after moving to this new state so i just let my sides and back grow out, my loctician wld just french braid my sides and back and it grew out fast and got long, so i had her loc it and add extensions. My original locs that she extended has grown so much that I'm considered having her cut them, my goal is to get my natural locs a little past shoulder length and cut out the extension
Ima 14 year old boy and I did them my self but I only added like 2 inches to my locs I didn’t go above cuz I still wanted a little journey and loc phases to go through I just made them a little longer with the hair I cut off a while back and I kept every since
Giiirrrll……. This video is nothing but the TRUTH!! I love how you break it down!!😂 Just found your channel. I don’t have loc extensions but I definitely seriously considered getting them a year ago when I started my locs.

I agree 700-1000 is the cheapest I know also I feel if it’s something you want to do it’s worth it I was going to get box braids for 2-300 that last only 1-2 months the loc extensions last as long at you want if they are installed correctly with human hair & you don’t always have to keep your locs done so once you pay the large amount you can go years saving on hairstyles & also hair supplies
Great! I was wondering about the hair matching your own texture. Very good video. I have 3c-4a and I’ve been saving my own and my daughter’s shed hair for years for this very reason. Im still not sure about extensions. But, I love the video and the information. Thank you so much!

Y’all I’m so in love with how they are turning out. I plan on installing them once I collect enough naps to form a Full head of locs....i had to watch this video for confirmation to make sure I am making the right choice for myself.....AND I Definitely am....forgive my little rant but I’m just sooooo excited to start my #lazydai journey into the lockhoodome❣️
I only needed 3 extensions, so I went to a popular shop and they had the nerve to put synthetic hair in my head 😒😒 so now I'm not going back because I feel like she knew better especially when she's been doing hair for 25 plus years.
I have an appointment next week and I'm so excited. The loctition I chose is having a sale $500 for locs and instillation. I'm doing this as a birthday gift for myself. I'm so very excited
I definitely did my own loc extensions and I’m in love it took almost a year to finish cuz they’re small and I work and have four kids but I finished em recently I wanted length and curls 😍😍🥰🥰
I love this video. I have been thinking about getting loc extensions for a minute. And your video helped me make the decision!! I was quoted about $800. And doing research found that is on the lower side. I wish I had never cut my locs
Wow😮 you just talked some real ish-naw-ee my son or I, really didn’t know the pricing or the the hardship of everything considering the loc’s technical issues or styling so thank for that..? I definitely will let my son view this his self before we really decide with this style..? Thanks again
And😂😂😂 I like that I’m getting starter locs on the 30 goddess locs the loctician makes them and install them I’m getting 12-14 tncches with kinky curly ends on my 4-c natural hair I am so excited yay 🧚🏿♀️🧚🏿♀️🧚🏿♀️
Girl I keep trying to explain to my dude that’s absolutely begging to get them. I broke down everything like you said prior to seeing your video, he talking bout he know someone that do it for $50 🤣🤣🤣🤣Literally laughed in his face. Mind you I’m getting mine done which isn’t my first time and I pay for quality and nothing less. My ticket is $1300 for hand made extensions and installed by the stylist. The least I’ve spent was $800
I agree I paid 680 on my locs and so far so good she has a 6 month time frame follow up but she also told me after my second follow up with her and everything looks good I can go to another person who specializes in locs since I had to drive so far
I spent $1200 for my 10 yr Olds extensions (hair and install). She love them 💛 And that alone is priceless. Now, for me, my homegirl cut her locs off after 10 years. She sold them yo me for $200. So, I lucked up... I'll be getting them install sometime in the future. I just got them off her before she sold then to someone else. She cut them in half so I got 45 eighteen inches, 45 twelve inches, and somehow 30 eight inches. I got a few 6 and 4 inches but it's about 15 of them.
I did not see this video until today which was after I spent a very lil bit on 100 Locs. Not realizing that wouldn’t be enough. I figured “I can do this” I watched tutorials. Smh. It has been over a month and I still haven’t finished. Really trifling on my part. I’m going to get done and buy more hair. Your 5 reasons . It reasons are on point.
To each his/her own. Your loc journey is what you make it. I started with short locs. Now my locs are over my shoulders. No fake hair no added hair. I’m so glad it is all my own hair.
Did my first set 2 weeks ago and it turned out great. Now that i know how painful it can be and how long it takes, my prices are going up. It was 87 locs. I didn't have to make them. She had her old loc. I charged $3 a loc 🤣🤣🤣🤣. That's the price I gave so I stuck to it. But never again. I also said I would do free maintenance up to 2 months. As long as I did the install.
I paid almost 1400 for my hair and she provided everything. 06/01 will make a year that I’ve had them. I know someone that attempted to do her own and pulled a nerve out her finger with the tool🥴
The lady im going to is charging about that. My appointment is July 14th and i initially bought locs from maconstyles but they messed them up so after i got my refund i Decided to let the same person make and install them. Ive been at this since February.
I paid $980 & its HORRIBLE. I dont have slippage but thr actual dread just thins in the middle & then breaks off so it looks like i have half short dreads & then long dreads. Its HORRIBLE. The lady just ghosted me & blocked me. I have no idea what to do thats why im on youtube but i cant find anyone else whos gone through this only slippage but that isnt my problem.. this is devastating smh
My very own cousin is charging me 550 but I don’t mind because I never expect a family discount from my family. I can’t do that to their hustle and I didn’t get them done them yet but I made the decision on committing before this New Year came in. I can’t wait because I know my hair type is perfect for the kinky bulk hair.
I got them ordered Done them myself I looked at a lot of videos first. I did order humamd hair. It was wort it to me. I am happy with the out come of my dreadlocks.
I grow my loss for 10 years. I combed out my hair and was natural for 3 months yes to restart it this year (2022) and now I want extensions. so yeah I recommend
I honestly just got the extensions cuz i was really unhappy with how slow my own hair grows and unsatisfied with how i looked, i do love the way the Extensions look on me and the maintenance itself isn't necessarily that bad but the opponions really get to you even after saying "and?!" a bunch so idk if i should just chop everything off and just stick to short hair 🤷🏿♂️
You are not lying I’m a hairstylist and after installing mines I don’t see me charging no less than $700 the pain I endured while installing almost took me out the game🤭😂😂 and that’s without the hair the first set I ever made took me 3 weeks to make no sir
If imma pay a band for anything it's for my teeth and gums to get healthy again. I wanna take the loc journey I'm not loc'd but I also need to learn patience..if I can do it myself..then why not at least try and be patient with myself and the process
See i cut my dreads last year kept them i got my second set but my middles keep coming out I’m about to reattach my old sets might run me atleast 200 for like 15 locs I’m cool with that my hair will grow and I’ll be happy
5:28 Nicey Nash on Reno 911 "You cant...See, When the edges from Africa and the back is china. Them 2 continents don't meet! Now you gon and get you some hair that blend in" 😭💀
I grew my own locs for 14 years plus.. cut them off because life was getting busy and they were too small for maintenance on my own .. so one year later I decided to loc my hair back bigger and I really couldn’t go through the virgin stage so naturally I decided to do loc extensions.. You mentioned a lot of things I wish I known before I went ahead a paid some coins to get the extensions… like they were going to fall off my biggest problem… I am now learning to do reattachments and some maintenance… but going to stick it through for another two years and see how my hair do.. thanks again for this vid
I’m thinkin about gettin this done will this be a good protective style while my natural hair is growing? I’m impatient and I want my long hair back but also I want my natural hair to still grow and be healthy
I’m so glad I watched your video!!! I am a stylist myself and wanted to get the loc extensions but my hair is like a 3C/4A texture… I would have been setting myself up for failure! 🤣🤣 the other things I could work pass but not the mixed matched texture!
My question is: with loc extensions, will the hair curl the same as if you were to grow locs with your real hair? Like the pipe cleaner curls for example….
I have high top locs but I wanna transition to a full head. Can I just cut some inches from my current locs and just use them as extensions to the rest of my head?
This might be a stupid question buuut can one get starter locks from a professional cause the parting gonna be right.lol then buy the extensions and do them themselves?
That’s exactly what I did. After 3 failed attempts with installs from people l went this route. I took a loc extension so they’d know what size I wanted. I purchased my extensions from nappstar
It definitely will save you some coins. I have DIY’ers who come to me all the time for this and go on their way.🥰👍🏾 My only advice is to choose a well qualified Loctician 🥰
I'm not going to lie , I been doing my research and for the last couple of videos the comment section just been vicious when it come to locs extensions. "OH I cOuLd nEvER dO loCs exTeNSIOn, ItS noT A ReAL joURnEy" Oh please😒 If having traditional locs make you look down upon people base on their hair, then I rather be bald 🤣
I spent 600..,, y’all gotta pay for what you want. I saved for it and made sure it was what I wanted. It’s a move really. I recommend
Getting mine 11/12 my bday 11/13 it’s a gift to myself 💯🙌🥂

I can honestly say it’s thee best decision I ever made for my hair PERIODT.

This video had me cracking up , but I’m planning on getting my locs done in ATL for $1K. You definitely get what you pay for.
😂 yess! Good luck! I hope you love them
I’m in Atlanta too and the prices are expensive!! It’s well worth it tho. Luckily I do locs and have been since I was 12.
I’m in atl and looking for a loctician ! Any recommendations?
Where in Atl…I’m looking also
Thank you for this video!! I’m so glad I watched…not only was it informative, but also funny, and to the point.
😄😄😄 glad you enjoyed
I show this video to everyone that wants instant locs with loc extensions ,😂 they all say the same thing ..😮 I’m good 😂😂
Is it considered loc extensions still if I cut my own hair and put it back ?
Hmmm!!! Good question. I don’t consider it to be loc extensions. Just reattachment of you own hair. So much of these reasons wouldn’t apply
No that’s your own hair?!
Lmao why the hell u would do that?
@@gostyjose6823 change parting style etc
Girl I keep trying to explain to my dude that’s absolutely begging to get them. I broke down everything like you said prior to seeing your video, he talking bout he know someone that do it for $50 🤣🤣🤣🤣Literally laughed in his face. Mind you I’m getting mine done which isn’t my first time and I pay for quality and nothing less. My ticket is $1300 for hand made extensions and installed by the stylist. The least I’ve spent was $800
$50!!! You can’t even get short faux locs with that lol!
Maybe a loc style ? 😭😭like extensions ??
That’s a haircut. What is he talking about?
@@purplegirl8036 I don’t know but if it ain’t $30 he don’t want it! But wants quality of 3k mannnnnnnnnn Go head on with that mister stingy!
He better comb twist! Even that I used to charge $45 but in a salon it’s damn near $60😂
Good looking out. So mad I even cut my locs 🙄 but I’m starting new and am using you 2 strand twist method with added hair 👍🏾
Weird af sis but ok😂
Girllll now that you know! Lol
Aye hook her up for having faith in your ability and for your first time experience
Where do you recommend getting the quality hair from?
I enjoyed this so much! 😭 but hilarity aside, I have now been given a whole new set of reasons to *think* about getting loc extensions. Thank you!
😄😄😄 glad it was helpful!
I LOVE your realness!!❤
I paid almost 1400 for my hair and she provided everything. 06/01 will make a year that I’ve had them. I know someone that attempted to do her own and pulled a nerve out her finger with the tool🥴
O.m.g see it’s no joke trying to do it on your own 🥴. Was paying worth it for you?
The lady im going to is charging about that. My appointment is July 14th and i initially bought locs from maconstyles but they messed them up so after i got my refund i Decided to let the same person make and install them. Ive been at this since February.
Lawd
Oh my word....
@@ThenGetIdOffUrChest Do you have an update!? I'm curious about your experience right after getting them.
Loc extension gang over here, 19 months in and counting... AND!!!
Period!!! Lol
This was very helpful! and I now know for sure I qualify for loc extensions (which I ordered already🤣) THANK YOU SO MUCH!
Woot woot!! Enjoy the journey!
Can I ask where did you purchase your extensions
That 3 month warranty 💯
The last part 🤣🤣💯
Got mine done for $120. It looks great! I guess it was less because I don’t have that many dreads
Girllll if she making and installing that is a family discount lol
I got them ordered
Done them myself I looked at a lot of videos first. I did order humamd hair. It was wort it to me. I am happy with the out come of my dreadlocks.
I LOVE HOW REAL U ARE 💯👑❤🤞
❤️❤️❤️
I grow my loss for 10 years. I combed out my hair and was natural for 3 months yes to restart it this year (2022) and now I want extensions. so yeah I recommend
Girlll I know it took forever to comb out
So my side are shaved. I've been growing them out since mid November. I'm thinking this would be an option to have my hair be all one length.
@@jordanidklol288 if you love them, keep them! Forget them folks
You are not lying I’m a hairstylist and after installing mines I don’t see me charging no less than $700 the pain I endured while installing almost took me out the game🤭😂😂 and that’s without the hair the first set I ever made took me 3 weeks to make no sir
😂😂😂
Yes girl, it is very very painful.
This video is hilarious. Nahhh we ain’t got Malaysian Hair and WE know it 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
😂😂😂 some folks trip me out with the hair texture complaints
I was just thinking about you doing this, and I wanted to do my own research first. Thanks you for this information.
I love your energy 😭 great video
Is the install painful? Like does it hurt when they are getting installed? Are they heavy?
That “and?!” gave me life and you a new subscriber 😂❤
Great tips!!! I’ve had mine for a month and agree with everything
If imma pay a band for anything it's for my teeth and gums to get healthy again. I wanna take the loc journey I'm not loc'd but I also need to learn patience..if I can do it myself..then why not at least try and be patient with myself and the process
Good luck ☺️. There’s beauty in the journee as well
shout out to you for this video! People love to complain but don't want to pay for the hard work🤦🏽♀️🤦🏽♀️🤦🏽♀️
Thank you!! This was a great help!
See i cut my dreads last year kept them i got my second set but my middles keep coming out I’m about to reattach my old sets might run me atleast 200 for like 15 locs I’m cool with that my hair will grow and I’ll be happy

"You cant...See, When the edges from Africa and the back is china. Them 2 continents don't meet! Now you gon and get you some hair that blend in" 😭💀
😂😂😂
I grew my own locs for 14 years plus.. cut them off because life was getting busy and they were too small for maintenance on my own .. so one year later I decided to loc my hair back bigger and I really couldn’t go through the virgin stage so naturally I decided to do loc extensions.. You mentioned a lot of things I wish I known before I went ahead a paid some coins to get the extensions… like they were going to fall off my biggest problem… I am now learning to do reattachments and some maintenance… but going to stick it through for another two years and see how my hair do.. thanks again for this vid
I started off with sistrlocks, but because of Covid and everything I started getting too behind on maintenance. Getting loc extensions this month
I paid 600 for 16in after 3months I wash it and it fuzzy out and got thin.
I’m thinkin about gettin this done will this be a good protective style while my natural hair is growing? I’m impatient and I want my long hair back but also I want my natural hair to still grow and be healthy
I did mine myself they turned out great
I’m so glad I watched your video!!! I am a stylist myself and wanted to get the loc extensions but my hair is like a 3C/4A texture… I would have been setting myself up for failure! 🤣🤣 the other things I could work pass but not the mixed matched texture!
Yes! And I think us being stylists, it’ll bother us more!
I'm right here with you....😫😫😭😭😫😫...I'll have to pass😪😪😪.
I've come across some folks who make human hair loc extensions for 3 b, 3c hair.
I like your locs, are they extensions? I want some with the curls at the end
They were extensions!
Thanks for the info. I think Ima buy the hair and get it done when I get to Africa for $60
I have locs however I have places with very short or no hair. I would like to get some for my head .
My question is: with loc extensions, will the hair curl the same as if you were to grow locs with your real hair? Like the pipe cleaner curls for example….
Yes human hair extensions curls without heat like our hair
Great question! Glad you asked this!
Thank you so much I’m doing mine today and this was informative
Does anyone have recommendations for a good loctician in ATL or Montgomery?
I have high top locs but I wanna transition to a full head. Can I just cut some inches from my current locs and just use them as extensions to the rest of my head?
@@rryyddeerr you could. And comb out about an inch of where you cut so you can have a fluffy end to attach
@@LeyLocs thanks queen 👑
This is such a great video 🙌🏾
I'm getting them!!!! Thanks!!!
I have fine natural curly hair that's neck length. Do you or would you recommend loc extensions for my hair type? I don't have tight curly hair.
You would have to find a texture that’s similar. It’s tough but possible
@@LeyLocs ok thanks!
Okay only question I have is can you fully dye them?
You can but dying them weakens them. I suggest just getting the color you want from the beginning
Your marketing skills are wonderful!!!
This might be a stupid question buuut can one get starter locks from a professional cause the parting gonna be right.lol then buy the extensions and do them themselves?
Tell me why that’s exactly what I did. 😂 except I made the extensions too.
"OH I cOuLd nEvER dO loCs exTeNSIOn, ItS noT A ReAL joURnEy"
Oh please😒
If having traditional locs make you look down upon people base on their hair, then I rather be bald 🤣
