This is true. For humans unconscious enough to commit violent acts against another, consequences for these actions are actually a good thing. The suffering through consequences (i.e., Prison, Juvie), is how many people become aware of their thoughts and actions in the past. Through this acceptance and awareness, these people can free their minds from engaging in future activities that will harm others.

These are the same people who think “all white people are racist”, “healthy at every size”, that men can “identify as women” and compete in women’s sports and beauty contests, and that “defunding the police” is a good way to fight crime and police brutality. There’s no changing it at this point. You get what you vote for. Maybe these ultra progressive looms will eventually do some careful introspection and course correction once their idiotic social experiments spend the next few decades unraveling.

Few years ago, I used to deliver pizza in Oakland. Every single delivery driver working in that store was robbed while delivering pizza. There was a guy who quit after he was robbed within an hour of starting the job. Most of the customers don't even tip in Oakland. It was the worst job I ever had.

Across the Bay, I think of an article about SF that ran in the NY Times over 3-4 yrs ago. It contained a sentence that asked the question whether Oakland's bigger neighbor had become too [quote, unquote] progressive. That article was published before Covid lockdowns, before the summer of BLM, before major retailers had pulled out of The City. If SF is hurting, no reason to assume that Oakland is doing any better.

This is what all communities need to do, start holding politicians accountable. Grill them, criticize them, and EXPOSE THEM publicly, just like parents are doing with corrupt school boards.

Serious question. Has there ever been an example in history of a government putting money into “violence prevention” while simultaneously diverting funds from law enforcement that has actually yielded results? I’m genuinely curious. Any examples of this working anywhere? I am not aware of a single example, and I’ve legitimately spent some time googling this. I’ve come across a couple of examples of some crime prevention and community engagement programs with marginal benefit that supplemented an already well funded, well staffed law enforcement presence, but I have never ever seen an example of prematurely “reallocating” resources from law enforcement to various social programs that has actually resulted in a positive outcome for crime reduction and public safety. Not anywhere in the entire civilized world.

As a resident of Oakland, I can say that we need to call a State of Emergency. We need state and federal resources to correct the issues. We need some direct and assertive action like El Salvador's President Bukele. I know that may sound harsh but we have a major problem here. The City of Oakland better get this fixed or citizens will become vigilantes to protect themselves.

All we heard is what they can’t do. At no point we’re we told what they can do such as plans for a request for emergency funds from the state. That way we could have more police in the neighborhoods and on the streets. We didn’t hear another way to punish the youth committing criminal activity instead of making it an either or situation. When she was asked what happened to the youth she let go because of insufficient evidence, she just shook her shoulders. That’s not giving them hope, that’s putting back on the street to continue to do more criminal activity. What a waste of our time and our hope!

These meetings are not going to change or accomplish a thing as long as Pamela Price is the DA. She is going to run that office exactly the way that it is currently being run so what's the point. If the DA’s plan for prosecuting young criminals is an effective method to turn their life around then the crime rate perpetrated by that age group should decrease. If crimes by that age group increases instead, then she should reconsider her plan. Some crime rate statistics would be useful for the public to know.
The time for self reflection and storytelling is over. Residents need action, police presence and strict broken window laws. If that can’t happen, then folks need to leave.

25 to 30 years ago the argument was to shut down SF Gun Exchange and then later Traders Sports in San Leandro as the source of gun crime. Dun, there are no gun stores in Oakland and state has restrictive gun control. If the police cant respond in a timely manner, then what is left for the law abiding citizens to do?
Refusing to prosecute kids is not a good policy cause you're not helping them, you're enabling and emboldening them to become career criminals. I can get behind maybe showing a little lienancy but not to prosecute at all is sending the wrong message. These kids need to be taught that there are consequences to their actions.

At the same time, the laws need to change.
Not just holding the youth criminals accountable, also holding the biological parents accountable. CA counties by law thanks to the Bruen decision are required to issues CCWs but it's the state and municipalities that are skirting this law by doing thing like imposing 10 waits on firearms, maybe up to a year in the entire process of getting through the process of background, interview and paperwork, the hundreds of dollars to get through the process including training then instituting ban on where one can carry just look at SB 2 in the state legislation right now. It would take an overhaul on both the local and state level to get this done.

Example: A few weeks ago I noticed someone beginning to camp out with their things on the platform. I went to him and asked politely for him to gather his belongings and either board a train or exit and unfortunately he can’t camp out down here. He told me he wasn’t going anywhere so I replied that this will escalate to the police being called. I kid you not, he looked me dead in my eyes and told me, “By the time the police get here, I’ll be long gone. If they do come and arrest me, I’ll be back on the streets by the end of the day, at the most out by tomorrow. So call them if you want, you waisting your own time!”

Our car was stolen in Rockridge last week. Called 911. No answer for 5 minutes, then they said there were 246 calls waiting ahead of me so I’d be better off taking an Uber to the station to file a report.
It’s good to see the community joining together and using the democratic process to hold elected officials accountable. It’s sad how complex this issue is. It will probably take a generation or more to solve this once the right programs are in place and funded correctly. I feel horrible for the law abiding residents of Oakland that have to deal with this every day.
The issue is not "complex". Try doing what every civilization has done for the past 5,000 years, that we know of (through written history): Punish wrongdoers, reward good doers. Simple.

I don't think recalling the DA is going to help much now, but she needs to go. Look at SF who recalled their DA and, still, the downward spiral continues in that city. Long term residents and major businesses continue to flee SF. Once the crime gets this bad, it's not easily stopped. Years of voting for activist and liberal politicians, not just local but state and federal too, fueled the situation and it may be too late to reverse course.

It's the DA not taking accountability for prosecuting criminals.
If you want better/community policing, you need to pay for it. We need to go back to basics. A kid who robs should not go into prison with hardened criminals, however, there needs to be restitution and accountability. Have them spend time working on projects that benefits the community. A slap on the hand is not harsh enough to stop this behaviour.

The cop's not showing up has nothing to do with the D.A. though.. that is cop's writing ticket's instead of actually investigating any crimes.. pile up the charges on these animals and they will stay in jail either way..

Always been that way. 90%cops are terrified to actually have to physically detain someone alone. So a traffic stops is what gets their promotions.

The problem is too many police on the streets enforcing unconstitutional laws that prevent law abiding citizens from defending themselves and their fellow citizens.
No accountability
I'm all for giving kids another shot and so forth, depending on the situation i.e. not for violent crimes involving a gun, but her blase attitude for repeat offenders is what is largely pissing people off. Plus her mentality for giving people another chance apparently applies to adults too.. as in she doesn't give a crap prosecuting crime in general.
She's protecting BLACK criminals only.
