ROCKET LAUNCHED into monster wedge tornado! Tornado lofted sensor to over 34,000 FEET!

- Full video: ROCKET DEPLOYMENT into powerful wedge tornado south of Lawrence KS yesterday. The only option for successful deployment is right in the "notch" of developing wedge. @ChasinSpin live streaming tornado sensors worked flawlessly up to over 34,000 FEET! Detailed data analyses underway and we will be sharing some preliminary results soon, first with the FB supporters who made this field research possible. The sensors collected temperature, pressure, relative humidity, acceleration and GPS data and streamed to ground receiver in Dominator 3 at a rate of 1 Hz.
The incredible part of this is that @ChasinSpin custom engineered these sensors in about 2 months and they worked inside the tornado on the first iteration. We hope to achieve many more deployments but with so many more sensors floating around inside tornadoes.
We hope that there were no lives lost from this tornado, and our thoughts and prayers are with the people impacted by this devastating storm.
Tim Samaras would be proud. Nice shot Mark.
Nice 1 m8

Hehehhehe
The best tornado movie in history.
You guys have made history because you have successfully put a probe into a tornado and not only being able to record data of the tornado, but also you have been able to record data that shows how far up the tornado's updraft goes, which seems to be near the top of the thunderstorm itself.
Plus this also answers a question that scientists and stormchaser had been wondering for decades if the tornado funnel stop in the mesocyclone of if ot goes all the way up to the top of the mesocyclone.
Great job guys and hopefully the data collected will prove invaluable for better warnings and better understanding of tornadoes and the minor differences in conditions that occur between the spawning of weak tornadoes, the the monster wedge tornadoes.
Christopher yes and like most of Hollywood movies, it was a crock of shit.
Christopher lol, it's understandable with Reed Timmer's sugar and excitement fuelled screaming at the start of the video 🤣🤣🤣
William Dines this isn’t the first time they have put a probe into a tornado
@@spacemancm4043 No, but none of them actually went to the heights this one did, so this will not only create a wider spread of data averages for the other tests, but uncover new data for the heights they just reached.
#TCSeason3 , bring back Tornado Chasers for a Season 3! Upvote so Reed can see!

Amazing! Rockets, and tornadoes...better than the Fourth of July! Great work guys!

Pretty cool stuff but why do chasers always yell the most obvious stuff over and over? Like "massive wedge tornado right there" as if someone nearby doesn't already know lol. It's the excitement of a near death experience I guess...idk

Congrats! Hopefully you gathered a informational analysis, May it be ground breaking, historical and life saving. 😘😉
How so? I’m very curious. What could be learned from this that is not known, and how would it effect, say, issuance of tornado warnings?
@@ebdprod I'd say it depends what they're looking for... I think the more knowledge we gain about tornados, we will learn how to ensure everyone surviving even the biggest one. We can learn how to detect them even earlier then we do now. Or who knows? Maybe one day we will know where a tornado is gonna form and even how big it will be before its even there. Technology never seizes to amaze! There is still alot about these storms that is unknown.. We know WAY more about other natural disasters like Hurricanes. The more we know, the better.
@@ebdprod I also think the lack of knowledge also comes with how unpredictable tornados are. So it makes it hard to say anything for sure about them. Its hard to base facts on something that can change in an instant. I think they want to study more what's going on inside the tornado. Because we knows more whats going on outside the tornado. Like damage and size, the way it forms... But the inside is what is unknown. So thats why theyre launching something inside of it.
Well done guys, Reed I’ve watched you for years and admire your work. Everyone is so proud of your work with your Team Dominator!
Thank you Darryl!

I didn't catch any tornados today but I saw my first supercell in my life. I imagine how exciting is to have a tornado in front of you.
Great Job Reed Timmer!
D5G haha yep! Even the smallest are exciting to have infront of you.
It took me Yrs to get the TORNADO intercepted I wanted. I was in A F-5 that wiped the hole town of the map instead of watching it I was in it. Was amazing as hell but last yr was my yr. I caught Doubles and Triples at one time it was Heart Throbbing FUN. I could pay to see them but I live in IA so I had to wait until the perfect day it will come. I couldn't afford to chase across half the US. Which for me sucks when you see them on tv I know weather I have studied this for 20 yrs. But have family and I had to wait until they were bug enough because it does not matter how good you are anything can happen to anyone. One false move on the road take the wrong left and loose concentration one time your BYE, BYE. For me not bad way to go I have had 9 back surgeries in pain everyday of my life but have 4 kids wanted to watch grow up. So now I am ok with a bad turn but does not mean I want to have a horrible outcome. But if your just getting started you better beware of all outcomes and ok with your decisions no matter what. There is no seconded guessing yourself while on a chase so you better know damn well what your doing. After all it is a storm they our unpredictable and could do damn near anything without you even noticing. So Be Careful if you really want to see a TORNADO without knowing ins and outs of a storm PAY FOR A RIDE ALONG. That can be just as dangerous also but if you get the right group you will enjoy it so much more without worrying about the storm will run your ass over.
@@jeremyblaine1866 It is as dangerous as parkour 🙃( JK )
Yes I understand the risks as well of course.
@@aboltfromtheblue3599 That's good because their are so many who think they can jump in a car and go but have no idea have done no studying at all. I was like that 20 yrs ago then I started to take a class here and there glad I did. Either way it wont matter one day it will RIP right through 5 o'clock traffic and a big city with a Catastrophic Outcome. But I wish others understood what they are doing before they do it. When I was chasing there was sooo much traffic along with people pulling CAMERAS out while driving causing massive back ups on the side roads and main roads last few times I was out. And I know DAMN WELL NOT EVERYONE OF THEM KNOW WHAT THEY NEED TO KNOW TO BE OUT THERE TAKING PICS OF TORNADOES DROPPING ALL AROUND US. Good luck stay safe distance and click away share when u catch them. 😎🤘✌

I just saw some scientists on the weather channel talking about flying a rocket into a tornado and how it’s “never been done before”. I am very disappointed in the weather channel and not giving credit to you guys. They are trying to fly a drone and a rocket into a tornado to “make history”, but you guys have already made history! 🙌🏼
Dr. Philip Chilson is the name of the man who is going to “fly a rocket into a tornado” in Oklahoma
incredible. so happy for you guys!
Congratulations Reed and team (Gizmo too,) that was spectacular. I can only hope and I will keep Praying that when all the data is analyzed, that it will help determine just how tornadoes are formed, and give those of us on the ground in the path of them a little more warning. God Bless You and Your Team Gizmo too. Stay safe. 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
Amazing stuff! Congrats to all involved!
This was about 25 miles E/SE of where i live and you will be happy to know that at this time there were no fatalities. 15 reported injured. Amazing given the size and how long it was on the ground.
Yes the best news is this tornado did not leave any loss of life. Thank goodness

Super cool, Love your work.
You may provide valuable life-saving info to the public and weather service, but the screaming is annoying and unnecessary, I prefer Pecos Hank's, style, delivery and blood pressure level 🌪️
Saw this on a news article on AccuWeather.com and my jaw hit the floor. This was certainly a scientific breakthrough especially in the study of tornadoes
Word to the guy holding the transmitter from a radio tech. You'll keep signal longer if you point the antenna directly perpendicular to the imaginary line extending from you to the rocket. So if you're facing forward and the rocket is located 45 degrees up off your right shoulder, your antenna should be pointing in a direction along a plane described by the following lines: 45 degrees up over your left shoulder, directly toward your front, 45 degrees down off your right shoulder, or directly toward you. This is because radio waves don't propagate out from a straight antenna evenly in all directions, it forms lobes whose strength is highest perpendicular to the axis of the antenna.
Awesome!!! Great job.
Whouuu! What a big tornado!
The FAA would not be happy with Reed his Drones, and rockets.
Screw'em if he interrupts any flightpaths, they'll be screwed anyway......because TORNADO.
I live in Linwood Ks ...was devastating. I hope to get your report
Very impressive achievement. Well done!
Reeds excitment is iconic to his channel
did you have to compensate for the pressure drop inside the eye vs pressure drop of altitude on the altimeter? Or was it pure GPS?
I love that you guys are adapting to model rockets with sensors xD
Edit: you guys should try and get a very small camera, like from a cell phone to put inside the nose cone for video inside the middle and upper portions of the tornado
It would just look like a white screen, so that wouldn't really work.

That's amazing,I've been interested in tornadoes ever since 1982 I was 9 when one touched down on our farm in Marion county FL I was out in the field half mile from the house I watched it suck huge live oak trees out the ground and toss them a couple hundred yards away like nothing and then take our tractor trailer loaded down with round bales of hay and lift it what looked like 300 ft in the air and toss it in the top of the only oak tree it left I couldn't move just hypnotized by it the sand and pine needles cutting me to shreds thanks for the videos
Imagine how much data you would have got if it was fired into the El Reno tornado.
