As a born and raised Kansan, I’ll say that the worst tornadoes in my opinion are the ones you can’t see coming. Rain wrapped or nighttime tornadoes are not fun. Tornadoes like the EF5 that almost wiped Greensburg, KS off the face of the map are the ones that nightmares are made of. This is great footage! I’m thankful it was so highly visible and that there were no deaths, especially since it was so close to the anniversary of the F5 tornado that hit Andover in 1991.
Hands down that's the clearest film of a tornado I've ever seen. It shows the energy and power of these things. It picks up cars like they're toy cars. Rips roofs off like they're made of cardboard. I totally understand people having underground bunkers now. Hope everyone gets back to normal ASAP. Watching from a distance it looks like the tornado is in slow-motion sort of. Like it's destroying things very easily without much effort. Scary being in that..
And how fast it moves! And how the area affected on the ground is actually behind the funnel that you visually see, not directly below it. I'm shocked by how fast it moves..you can see the AOE and it just move so fast I see why they say you can't outrun a tornado in car!
Yeah, and not to dog on Reed's incredible footage (esp that drone O_O), but there is sOOOoo much good video of this tornado. No rain, good afternoon lighting, and most crucially a VERY small vortex size/radius, especially for such a powerful tornado... hardly wider than a residential lot at times. That made it REALLY easy for people to be much closer than usual, distances from rotation center that would be disorienting or even extremely dangerous for average size tornadoes. There are phone vids from random folks at the grocery store that are in the top 10 most clear and illuminating tornado videos I've seen.
I’ve survived two tornadoes. One in Kettering, Ohio in 1969, that destroyed our apartment complex, while my mom, sister and I huddled behind a chair. The other one was the infamous 1974 Xenia, Ohio tornado. I’ve also survived the 1989 earthquake in San Francisco and the 2004 Hurricane Charlie in Fort Myers, FL. None were as frightening as a tornado.
@@ReedTimmerWx Yes, thank you. Sometimes it seems that the storms chase me. Lol. I’ve also experienced two major Nor’easters and a blizzard. You can imagine my concerns when we went to Hawaii several years ago! 😅 Thankfully, no problems. 🌋
I really hope the use of drones for this changes everything in terms of earlier warning systems and understanding how the storms work. Being able to get this clarity of footage from various elevations without risking the safety of human camera operators is remarkable progress.
It might work to understand the weather better but it won’t work in order for earlier warning. They only way to have an early warning is to issue the warning whenever clouds are spinning but then the problem is that spinning clouds don’t firm into tornadoes most of the time. So when I hear a tornado warning go off where I live in KS I go out to see fir myself because that is what they do. If I just see clouds turning above me and no funnel then I’ll stay outside and watch it until I know what it’s gonna do but I do not rely on the weather radio for accurate information. Last time, a tornado hit a mile from my house but the weather radio did not talk about it until five minutes after it passed and I knew about it because I saw it forming and took shelter and then after my brother, who is a firefighter fir the county, texted me and told me it was moving away from where I lived did I get a notification on the weather radio.
The Andover tornado was especially amazing because of the fact that nobody died, for some reason Kansas always seems to generate amazing twisters like this, incredible footage!

Please keep our community in your thoughts and prayers. We’d already been through utter devastation in 1991. Didn’t think it’d happen again 31 years later.
Yeah it’s so sad all those places got hit I knew a lot of people whose houses got hit and even on the drone you could see their homes. My old pre school prairie creek was hit and that made me pretty sad because all the memories I got there these kids will never get. It was an amazing school and it’s so sad it got hit.

The Tornado in the cloud has moisture, while at ground level it has dirt/debris. The Tornado itself is fully formed but not visible without the cloud/debris.
Tornados are always coming top-down. The spinning air is transparent until it meets dirt or smoke. The moisture from the cloud may or may not be visible.
All this time I thought that houses were swept away horizontally, but at least with this tornado, they went straight up first and then were spun around. I had no idea. And absolutely mesmerizing.
This was one of the most beautiful tornadoes I have ever seen on film. Strange how they can be so beautiful yet so deadly and destructive. I watched one go by my house the week before so I don't take them lightly. Many years ago one went by house when living in Illinois. The sky was the most beautiful cobalt blue and dark aquamarine. I heard no one was killed in this tornado. Amazing.
I have watched so many videos of this tornado (I've watched hundreds of other tornadoes too) and this has got to be the craziest one yet; the horizontal vortexes, the condensation cloud not even being near the ground with such damage and how quickly it became so destructive is beyond imagination. It was like watching an exotic dancer. Beautiful footage. Stay safe out there!

For how small this twister was it sure was destructive! Usually with the giant 1 mile + monsters you can't see the destruction in real time as clearly. Great footage!
Your drone footage is amazing! It offers a perspective most time we never see. This is probably one of the greatest videos on RUclips on weather and disasters. Holy crap just think of the adrenaline rush you'd get from being this close to these tornados. Damn nature, you scary.
What's the the explanation for the "elevator" effect seen in many places (especially the condensation streamer at 0:55) where objects are lifted straight vertically without spinning (caught in a vortex), rotating around the central core of the tornado (windfield motion), or being sucked inwards toward the core (inflow). I can understand that inertia could prevent intact roof structures from spinning immediately (if caught in a vortex), and that a tornado can suddenly lurch forward so its forward ground speed matches its windfield speed at certain distances from the core (so lifted objects have no apparent ground speed), but how can there be a strong vertical jet (condensation streamer at 0:55) at the same time there is a nearby horizontal jet (roof shingles and debris move rightward just above the treeline at 0:57) and neither of them seem to have any rotation along their jet axes, just linear motion parallel to the axis? Some real head-scratching conundrums for the simulation folks trying to understand twister fluid dynamics.
Look into the U.S Air Force PDF “Owning the Weather by 2025” that came out in 1996. This is weather warfare at its finest. Geoengineering has been going on for DECADES but is more apparent than ever if one would just look up. Repent, and put your trust in the one that bought you with a price and loves you the most - Jesus Christ. Time is winding down…

Reed, you've done more for tornado science than is even comprehensible. We all thank you for your dedication. People will live who may have otherwise died because of data you've collected.
Here in the UK we hear about tornado strikes, we read about them and watch news clips of their after effects. But to watch this sends a shiver down my spine, the sheer energy, power and speed of these things. My thoughts immediately go to the people who’s lives are devastated and taken by them.
Watching a news channel clip of tornadoes hitting cities is crazy. Sometimes it can hit you real hard knowing what's happening to the people it hits. The one storm I've fully watched is the jonesboro tornado in 2020 and that stuff is scary. It's fascinating but terrifying. And I'm lucky to always have tornadoes miss me and hit 15 miles north. But looking at the path of the most recent one here the storm went directly over me and dropped a tornado 5 miles away. And no tornado warning. That's annoying. But that's probably the closest I've been to death so it's probably fine

Just build your houses down. Why on earth would you build houses above ground where you know it's susceptible to tornadoes every year?
Those were entire houses being picked up and blown to bits like a child blows down a house of cards. I’ll take earthquakes any day of the week
As a child my family had to use the under ground hole in Texas saved our lives many time. House was blown away once
@@Natedoc808 most of the time is was "just" the roofs of houses, but point taken

@Moderator Hater that’s why they said hope…… damn, you ARE a hater.
Britain: what is this tornado you speak of? I have never seen it before or any other of this natural desaster word
And maybe how they're manufactured

I watched this stream live in awe, Reed undoubtedly is the best storm chaser there is
This is probably one of the greatest videos on RUclips on weather and disasters.

It's sad that the people of Andover have been effected by such damage to their community. I was never so happy to hear that no lives were lost. Thank You for your hard work! Never stop chasing! Prayers to those affected.
Be safe
By far the BEST TORNADO VIDEO of all time! WOWSERS. I've watched literally thousands of videos. Hands down the best.
Is this seasonal in other country like a typhoon?
Yes two seasons in spring and fall!
I guess. The middle of the year seems like the big one I always hear about. Everyone always talks about may having a ton of tornadoes
They mostly happen where I live (Alabama, US) in spring, especially March and April, and also in fall, when the temperature starts to change, but we get them throughout the year, even in December!
@@RemyLebeauIAm how much damage it cause?
@@ricoaranilla5949We had one a year ago less than a mile from my house that did a ton of damage. You can still see where they're rebuilding houses.
I'm glad people have the courage to film stuff like this. It's terrifying but really cool to see.
Same like it’s fun to see and watch!
But it’s not fun when you think about how much damage there is
And how many people died/ got injured..
There is a unique feeling you get when your close to this weather. So powerful. I actually miss living in tornado ally.
Oh yes you can feel the power with all your senses
It does . You get all your goosebumps up and time slows down. P
never have i ever seen one in person and i feel terrible for saying it but i wish i could it’s just all so fascinating
@@ReedTimmerWx . ....... so you admit you do it partly for the thrill of it??
Wow….I’m amazed that you caught all this drone footage. I’ve never seen a tornado, but, I’ve been buried alive by the costliest tornado in history when it hit in 2011.
Reed, you've done more for tornado science than is even comprehensible. We all thank you for your dedication. People will live who may have otherwise died because of data you've collected.
I'm going over my tornado safety plan today!
@@carolynmorris7303 Wear a helmet. Many people die of head injuries during tornadoes. Even a bicycle helmet works, anything to protect the noggin.
@@missinformed9550 I went out tonight looking for a NOAA radio. Bass pro shop carries them.
@@missinformed9550 I'll have to check up on that.
@@missinformed9550 I'm not sure if I saw that on the tornado preparedness sites on the internet.
Woah. As someone who next to never sees a tornado in the UK, this is frighteningly beautiful.
I've been surprised by a storm in Europe (dropping trees near me) and it was frigging scary, but it looks like a gentle breeze by comparison...
There is beauty in natures volatility, a humbling symphony of the earths expression. Volcanic eruptions are my favorite.
Here in the UK we hear about tornado strikes, we read about them and watch news clips of their after effects. But to watch this sends a shiver down my spine, the sheer energy, power and speed of these things. My thoughts immediately go to the people who’s lives are devastated and taken by them.
uk has one is of the counrtys with most tornado's per square km. you only get weak ones tho
@@Applezz649 Absolutely, no where on the scale of some regions in the world. I do wonder if that will change moving forward though. Don’t get me wrong we’ve had some humdingers but very infrequent.
It’s insane what technology has done for storm chasing and photography. Amazing footage! Thank you for sharing this. When I was a kid I craved to see tornadoes in full view and now I can.☺️💪🏼 stay safe please!
Wow team dominator ? wow !!!!!!!! cool !!!!!!!!! what did I just read????? haha.
Yes that's a good thing but it's not that terrible at all
@@wolfgangruca7130 Actually... it's not true at all that brazil doesn't get tornadoes. We've got some BIG time tornadoes over the years, like the mega-wedge that affected parts of the city of Marechal Candido Rondon back in 2015.
@@galdutro SO you do get tornados in Brazil
This is absolutely insane! We are so lucky to have storm chasers like you that warn us about these obnoxious tornadoes
I wouldn't necessarily call these natural acts obnoxious.
@@granny58 agreed, but the screaming definitely is. Thankfully we have people like Pecos Hank that stay calm under pressure.
Amazing. This is the first time I have ever seen small rings within the tornado, all twirling. Great work.
